McGeady started and scored against Hearts when he was 16 I think, this guys only a few years younger. Makes sense if we see the same potential in him to start playing him against older players now?
Just after his 18th mate.
Pretty sure he was 17.
His debut against Hearts was a few weeks after he turned 18.

Indeed.

Edit: Imagine we lived in a world with a vast database of knowledge where we could find the information.

The boy got 9 minutes seeing out a comfortable win in a reserve game, folk need to stop acting like he got brought on chasing the game in a Champions League play-off in Istanbul.

Should be forbidden to report on sporting prospects under the age of 16.

Disgusting to heap loads of pressure on youngsters. Let them focus on their school work and developing as a player before hyping them.
Couldn't agree more.

Would that be the book they specifically give "great deal of credit" to in the article .... ;)
I have read that before, about the early birthday thing, it was in an article on ice hockey players in the USA/Canada, there were stats on how many were born in the first four months of year, can't recall the exact details but made me realise that being born in August was the reason I can't hit a coo's ass with a banjo  In a way, makes you feel a bit better about yourself, not being any good at football, it was pre-destined rather than anything I did wrong myself...
Me too, born on Grouse Day which might explain my love for the finest food and wines as opposed to training and fitness .. :)

We can but hope he has parents that can and will keep him grounded and do the best they can for him. Think Chelski bought Feruz's mum and dad a house plus gave the boy silly money.

No idea what young Dembele's situation at home is and the reasons they arrived here from the Ivory Coast, but hopefully they will be able to turn away the inevitable suitors with wads of cash.
Easier said than done. Being offered a free house and for your kid to be paid several grand a week for four years is a tempting offer.

Particularly if you are immigrants renting a flat and struggling to get by.

Bird in the hand, and all that.

A property to call your own that can be a family asset for future generations and a guaranteed million quid over four years?

Staying at Celtic for a lower financial return is a risk.

The kid could fizzle out and fail to make the grade or - God forbid – damage a knee that finishes them while playing an innocuous U-17 game.

If another club offers a life-changing deal then it really is a difficult call.

Islam Feruz's family may have made the wrong choice in hindsight but I totally understand why they did it.

There simply are no guarantees at that age.

This article, for me, is a perfect demonstration of why Scotland is a footballing backwater :ffs:

A 13 year old lad being lauded in the press, why is the Celtic/sevco angle in there?

It should have been, (if any article about one kid should've been written at all) about how great it was that young players are being developed, or that "here's a young lad doing well" or an article giving a broader look at how youth development is happening.

Instead we've been given a cheap shot article deigned to sell papers and add fuel to the "old firm" fire. Pathetic journalism and it kind of sums up Scottish football as a whole for me.
