Didn't see it - visiting duties at the hospital - but I'm a bit surprised after the way the young guys demolished Morton in the last round, saw that played some great stuff, they then get pumped by a team in the division below. Hopefully they might have learned something from today's mauling.

Total mis-match in terms of the physical side of the game.

Hardly won a header or a tackle in the first half and Livi pressed well all over the pitch which meant we continually coughed up possession.

The boys stuck at it - thought Hendry did well and Aitchison too when he came on.

Will have done the youngsters no harm.

It was Cowdenbeath the Colts beat in the last round.

No it wasn't, before Cowdenbeath we beat Annan Athletic.

The game was played at Cappielow though.

Much better second half. Might have had a chance if we'd played like that for the full 90.

Livi lads were too strong physically and exposed the naivety of our young guys. Miller the standout for me.

On the plus side, they've probably learned more in that one game (in regards to the physical side of the game) than they would in ten games vs all the other U20's sides in the league.

I like to see young players makes mistakes then see how they handle them. If they can shake it off and go on to perform reasonably then there is a fair chance they might make the step up. However I've seen too many simply get worse
and end up looking like they have never played before. A few of these young guys can take positives from the 2nd half performance, but need to learn how to handle the problems they encountered in the first 45 much better, some simply let panic
set in and completely lost the plot. If I were Celtic, I'd be looking to arrange a few more games against opposition of a similar level and above to keep pushing them. It wasn't purely down to physique that we lost so heavily, 2-3 goals were self-inflicted
which were down to poor decision making / rank bad marking / ball watching which can all be worked on.

omg really? Why don't we take it back a step and say the pass into Nesbitt made the goal!!

The goal was all down to a sweet strike from Regan

Alright there Regan?

Was a lovely hit right enough, to be fair, but nothing wrong with admiring Nesbitt's build up play either!

Yeah, it looked like one of those crappy 20 yarders that The Wombat They Can't Combat tends to score with his left foot. ;)

Quote:

Celtic are pushing ahead with a plan to have a Colt team in next season’s SPFL League Two.

This season’s Irn Bru Cup saw Celtic beat League Two sides Annan and Cowdenbeath before crashing out to Livingston at the weekend.

Providing young players with regular competitive action against time served senior players is an essential part of players development with Celtic pushing to extend the Irn Bru Cup set up into a regular feature.

As with many of these schemes the tribute act from Ibrox would also be involved but with the Murray Park conveyor belt in disarray there could be some embarrassing times ahead.

According to a report in The Sun an SPFL insider said: “There’s an appetite, certainly among the bigger clubs, about the idea of colts and Under-20 teams in League Two.

“Even though both clubs lost games in the Irn-Bru Cup there’s a feeling at the top level of clubs that the experience has helped the young players.

“There would be some challenges regarding making it happen but the feeling is there’s a will for it. It’s something the League itself would also appear willing to consider.”

A number of issues would have to be resolved but it seems that there is a willingness among lower division clubs to include Colt teams. If Sevco are to be included it would seem logical to extend the invite to other clubs such as Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen who regularly finish ahead of the Murray Park allstars in the Development League.

Two key areas to be discussed would be where home matches are played and promotion.

Playing all matches away from home would be a popular move but a bar on promotion may be requested by the other clubs.

While gaining regular matches would be welcome being left in the bottom tier could prove counter productive.

Going by this season’s Irn Bru Cup results Celtic Colts would be among the front runners in League Two although going by the result at Livingston topping League One looks a distance away.
