SPFL Development League Rugby Park, Kilmarnock Tuesday, August 23, 2016
KILMARNOCK 3 (Bojaj 6, 60, Morrison 52)
CELTIC 4 (Ajer 5, Hendry 45, 64, Crossan 70)
CELTIC’S Development Squad kicked off the defence of their league title with an impressive 4-3 victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.
First-half goals from Kristoffer Ajer and Regan Hendry gave the Hoops a 2-1 lead at the break. Hendry netted his second of the net in the second-half to make it 3-3 after the home side had scored two goals to take the lead and then, with 20 minutes of the match remaining, PJ Crossan scored what proved to be the winner.
Tommy McIntyre’s side took all of five minutes to open the scoring. Calvin Miller took advantage of a short corner to clip the ball to the far side of the box and Ajer was there to fire the ball home.
That lead lasted just 60 seconds before Flo Bojaj dispossessed Regan Hendry and fired the ball high into the net for the equaliser.
Celtic responded well and had a number of chances, through Efe Ambrose, Theo Archibald and then a Miller volley on 26 minutes which was well-held by the Killie keeper.
There was a moment of concern for the Hoops on the half-hour mark when captain Aidan McIlduff crashed into the post while making a clearance, but thankfully he was able to continue after some treatment.
And just before half-time, Tommy McIntyre’s side restored their lead. Tenacious play down the left flank from Miller saw the winger fire the ball low to the back post where Hendry was on hand to convert, giving the Hoops a 2-1 half-time lead.
The home side stormed into the attack after the break, however, and they equalised for the second time in the match on 52 minutes when Lewis Morrison intercepted a Dedryck Boyata pass to score. And on the hour mark, Bojaj scored his second of the night to put Killie 3-2 ahead.
Four minutes later, it was Celtic who equalised. A wonderful 40-yard pass from Mark Hill inside his own half found Archibald, and he fed the ball to Hendry, who smashed it home from 12 yards out, giving the Killie keeper no chance.
Tommy McIntyre’s side drove forward in search of a winner, which duly arrived on 70 minutes, and once again it was Archibald who was involved in the move. He played it across the box, and it was fired towards goal by Anthony Ralston, with PJ Crossan on hand to finish and make it 4-3 to the Hoops.
Regan Hendry had a chance for his hat-trick with just five minutes of the match remaining, but he fired narrowly wide after he’d been set up by Ambrose.
But the Hoops saw out the match to triumph in a seven-goal thriller and get their title defence off to a winning start.
CELTIC: Hazard, Ralston, McIlDuff, Boyata (Wardrop 65), Ambrose, Ajer, Hill, Archibald (Higgins 88), Hendry, Miller and Crossan (Johnston 90). Subs: Doohan, Kerr, Murray.

Boyata for their second goal Boyata.
Regan Hendry gave away a shocker too but looks a real talent. As does Calvin Miller on the left wing.

Boys play Livi tomorrow in that League Challenge Cup £10 pay at the gate gonna go along and watch.
Would be good if there was a decent crowd there for them. Only "Youth" side left in the cup.
5:15pm Kick Off.

I'm assuming we may be missing a few players today due to international youth call ups?
