Seems like a bit of a backwards step for Nesbitt considering he was on loan to a top flight club last season.
Apart from a couple of bright games, he didn't make much of an impact at Thistle, so the step down is obviously to make sure he gets games I think.

General consensus is he needs to fill out more, but that's sometimes a lazy excuse for me. Turns 20 in February, so hopefully he hits the ground running. You'd have been expecting him to have made some sort of a breakthrough by now going by what was said about his potential a couple of years back. Definitely a make or break move at Morton in terms of his Celtic career.

He did look very exciting in the Colts game last week.
Cheers, didn't realise he'd made such little impact at Partick. I agree, by the time a player reaches 20 he should be pushing for first team football. If he's not good enough to get a game at Partick Thistle, it sounds like he's light years away from being good enough for our first team.

Aiden Nesbitt has joined Morton on loan until January 2017. Hope he does well as he looks like a good prospect.

From Official Celtic site

edited for fat useless fingers.
Generally speaking, when a player goes out on loan, who covers the player's salary, Celtic or the borrowing club?

I imagine an older player like Scott Allen is at Rotherham full time, but does Nesbitt still work out with Celtic at Lennoxtown and just goes to Morton for games, or does he train just with Morton?
It all just depends.

Generally the club taking the player will cover the wages but there may be exceptions depending on what the two clubs want out of it.

For example Celtic might come to a deal with Morton that we will pick up the tab for his wages but Morton need to give him a certain number of games (barring injury/suspension) because for Celtic & the player the priority just now is getting him games at a decent level in a competitive environment.

I don't think ability is a problem, maybe the SPL was just too physical for him, from what everyone is saying he needs to fill out, maybe when he does he'll be better placed to play for us, we seem to want to keep him, somebody sees something or he'd
be gone

Poor wee Joe just couldn't get tight to him.

Fair play and good luck to the lad. Sadly the way football is these days we will probably never see him for our first team if he fulfills his promise

Morton also have another Celtic on loan - Jamie Lindsay who scored on his debut a couple weeks ago

I think it's a good move for Aidan, he should get 30+ games in a tough competitive league, it will allow him to toughen up if that's what is needed plus a chance to shine.

Nice one. Turned out to be a reasonable return for my £11.95. Three Celtic games, the Aberdeen European game and watched a Belgian league game the other Friday.

A wee note about the younger Dembele.

Apparently the Barca player with the blonde, wild, Puyol-esque hair in the video is the biggest talent in his age group, and the wee man Dembele made him look quite the fool

I asked this a ways back but I'll do it again - are there any decent blogs that keep track of our youth set up? Used to be a guy who did it a few years ago (think he might've had a son on the squad) but hasn't done it in awhile.

On another note - how does Joe Thomson look as a prospect? He was in our squad a bit but got injured, right? Seemed like he was highly thought of...

Joe of Videocelts fame posts more blogs about the development side than most others. He quite often gives Twitter updates on matches too.

If you go to Celtic Newsnow you'll get all the Videocelts stuff

Joe Thomson is away to Dumbarton on loan for 6 months

I really don't know what we gain from punting our brightest youngsters out the lower leagues to train at shampooe facilities with sometimes part time coaches.

Also the footballing culture of our lower leagues is hardly fitting with our requirements for CL football. If we are going to do it I'd rather we tied up formal relationship with one club as a long term thing so we could have some input over this.

I'm pretty sure when Paul McGowan was on loan at Morton he still trained with us 1 or 2 days a week.

Not sure if we still do that. Obviously not possible if they go on loan down south.

Morton are a full-time club now and I'm quite sure they train every day at Parklea Stadium in Port Glasgow - surely anyone on loan there would train with Morton every day rather than come back and forward?
