From someone that's actually seen him play. The reasoning behind Sbragia not picking him makes me despair.

I really didn't know there was a Scottish bloke playing for Real Madrid!!
Even at any level, that must be a first?
Maybe the SFA thinking behind playing him, is what's holding Ryan Gauld back?
TBF the Scotland 1st team is actually quite wee, managed by a wee guy, who has a thing about compensating for being a wee guy. Surely WGS would have a word if there was an issue? He did pick Gauld for a squad once I think.
Going to Google this Madrid boy now.

You also forgot about Claude MacElele.

They gave him a 5 year contract and he is seen as one of their top prospects, 6ft and apparently too small for Scotland. Embarrassing :ffs:

I think it's next season he moves up to Castilla.

It's irrelevant anyway. He's a young Scot, who is 19, and made six appearances in the UEFA Youth league for Real Madrid, scoring 3 goals and making two assists. And he can't make our U19 squad; madness of the highest order.

His father talking about Spain nicking him now.

I just watched the highlights to the Basel game.
He looks massive
If he's deemed to small for the U20's then the rest must be absolute monsters.
Couple of cracking headers from him in those highlights as well.

FFS

The SFA - the same organisation that 10 years ago contrived to lose the two most talented Scottish players of their generation (McGeady and McCarthy).

Some things never change, eh?

I saw a few highlights of him. I don't know what Scotland have in their youth ranks but they'd want to be effing worldies because Harper is a player.

From the website:

"And Stevie Frail will have almost a full squad to choose from, with Aidan Nesbitt back in the squad, along with Connor McManus, who has played the previous two games after an injury lay-off. And Kieran Tierney has also resumed training, so he could feature over the next couple of week."

Joe Chalmers is still a long term injury absentee (been out since last May). O'Connell hasn't made the last couple of squads. Don't know if he's been injured or just held back for first team availability
Be good to see if Tierney can get back to the form he was showing before his leg break. He looked very good going forward and had a great delivery. If he can defend, he could offer an alternative at left back.

Apparently Spain were on the phone 24 hours after he wasn't selected to see if he'd be interested in representing them. Wouldn't blame the lad

Seems to have been used at left back, left wing and right wing. An under20s version of Mubarak Wakaso!

seen very little of him. Calum Watters seems to be first pick left back at that level. Think he joined us from hearts at same time and Henderson did.

Given the lack of first team competition at left back I'm a little surprised he's not made a first team squad yet. Very short. Looks like a ball boy when you see him next to some of the other players.

Waters has certainly improved in the last year and is strong in the tacle considering his size, but may not yet offer enough going forward to slot into our current system.

I don't think there is any quote that mentions his height. This just seems to have come from on here.

The coach said he had picked a physical side with runners. Nothing about him being short

a few places have him quoted as wanting more height

Quote:

However, former Sunderland boss Sbragia has explained it's nothing personal with the 19-year-old, he's just gone for a more physical approach, despite Harper standing at over 6ft tall.

Sbragia explained: 'Our concentration is on the opening game with Austria and we've deliberately got more height in our squad. That's one of the reasons why Jack isn't in.

'Unfortunately, I don't see enough of him in action. The last time he was with us, he did OK, but I wanted a little more impact. At Real Madrid he can float all over the place, which he does. But with us, he has to be more disciplined.

He's the same age as Denayer. I wonder if we might see him at CP as a loan player anytime in the near future? Maybe after a year with Madrid Castilla.
