I've heard about more robust and taller kids getting picked at young ages in the youth set up but find it puzzling as by the time you get to the older age groups we are always one of the smaller sides. If players are getting picked purely on size then whoever does it isn't good at their job.

I have enjoyed watching the development matches this season, but one of the disappointing aspects has been the lack of anyone who looks like they could play the lone striker role in the future. Hamilton were running away with the league early on partly due to the fact they had Eamoon Brophy banging them in regularly(20 so far this season). Aberdeen have since taken over the top of the league and again have a prolific scorer in Laurence Shankland (23 goals so far). We don't have anybody in double figures although Paul McMullan has been battling away manfully, despite only being about 5'6". I am sure he will be more likely to fill one of the wide roles if promoted to the first team. Hopefully there is someone in the younger ranks who fits the bill, or we could take on another project.

Jaison McGrath has played the last three games (I think) as the lone striker.
Might be next year before we see if he's any good as his fitness isn't the same as the other boys.
Think he's the type of out and out striker you're maybe talking about.
Scored against Ross County recently

Yes, you're right. He doesn't seem up to speed yet, but hopefully he will do a job when Ronny beasts him into shape!

Glad to see Jason back again, I thought he was a really good prospect when younger so hopefully he can return to his old form again.

What's happened to the under 20 international cup thingy based in England?
Thought we got through to the knock out stage?
Can't seem to find much information on it.

And hopefully this time he will screw the nut. Went off the rails for a while and has hopefully grown up a bit.

What's the story with the boy McGrath leaving Hamilton for us? Out of contract or shown the door?

Shown the door by us previously and went to Sunderland I think. Didn't it cut it there and was out of football for a while before a fella who is the father of a friend of his got him into Hamilton. Don't know what happened there.

Not for the first i find myself saying: size isn't everything.

I don't think that football ability is the only critera to base youth selection on but it should be pretty much near the top of the list. Intelligence and personal drive are also important, especially in this age of distractions, to ensure that the kids reach their full potential.

I can only hope that Ronny's Revolution makes improvements in the recruitment and development of our youth players.

Edinburgh based Tims get along to Ainslie Park (Spartans) for tonight's 7.15KO game against Hibs.

From the website:

"And Stevie Frail will have almost a full squad to choose from, with Aidan Nesbitt back in the squad, along with Connor McManus, who has played the previous two games after an injury lay-off. And Kieran Tierney has also resumed training, so he could feature over the next couple of week."

Joe Chalmers is still a long term injury absentee (been out since last May). O'Connell hasn't made the last couple of squads. Don't know if he's been injured or just held back for first team availability
