Celtic's development team was scudded when they played Livingston in the Irn Bru Cup so I wouldn't expect them to have a rapid rise up to Championship level.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Our youth players wouldn't get matches for the first couple of season. That would hinder their progress. We can't have that. We would need to have them playing in the upcomming reserve league.
That's what I mean. Effectively, we'd still just have the first team, and the U20's. But the only difference would be the U20's playing in League 2 (or the Lowland league) instead of the SPFL Development League. So what I'm saying is we wouldn't have 3 teams. The Reserve team would be the U20's but under a different name. But we couldn't play the current U20 as a colt team if we want any progress on those players
the opposition that they would face would offer them very little, even less than they face now
so we would need for the current u20 team to enter the reserve league as they are planning and then have another team to compete as the colt team with players that normally wouldn't be offered new contracts
there might be a few highland teams that have a "decent" quality, but the rest and most of the teams that they would face in div 2 and div 1 aren't good enough for our players to learn much

with div 1 being the top the colt team could reach, it would make the current u20 team a decent div 1 side, and that without the youth players that we have on loan to other clubs

But I thought that the rangers method of not playing games was the way to go?
Celtic academy head reckons scheme could be rolled out nationwide
Spoiler: click to toggle Paul McLaughlin
The head teacher who runs the academy that is delivering a talent production line to Celtic believes clubs across Scotland could introduce similar schemes that would benefit the sport nationally. A paucity of homegrown talent was effectively highlighted by Gordon Strachan last weekend as the Scotland manager sought to place his team’s performance in the context of his own trophy laden career as a player and manager. The man who won titles on both sides of the border with Aberdeen and Manchester United in his playing days before claiming a string of titles as Celtic manager reckoned that they had come within moments of what would have been the greatest victory of all such is the gulf between the two teams.
Not one Scottish player would have gained selection in a combined XI with Saturday’s opponents which is a stark contrast from Strachan’s early playing days when Scottish talent was abundant in English clubs that dominated the European scene. The agreement initiated when he was Celtic manager between the club and East Dunbartonshire’s education authority to allow them to work with St Ninian’s High in Kirkintilloch to develop players was consequently an attempt to address that and the school’s head teacher, Paul McLaughlin, reckons the template they have created can be replicated. “I think this can be done elsewhere depending on the willingness of the school to make it work,” he said. “You need a school that’s prepared to say we’ll make this work because it’s worthwhile, but that’s where you need schools that are ambitious, schools that will take things on.”
He noted that while most of the Celtic players who go to their school are originally from outwith the St Ninian’s catchment area, they are almost exclusively from the west coast of Scotland leaving scope for those in other geographical areas to take a similar approach and he noted that both Hearts FC and Liverpool FC have visited the school to see how it works.
As a passionate educationalist he also believes it works for the school as a whole. “I think it’s good for staff and kids to be in a school like that,” said McLaughlin. “If the only thing that matters about a school is what is being taught in the classes that’s not a great school. Schools are about much more.”

Hope the guy does well at Oxford, can't see him making the step up here,,,,we see to be struggling to find decent quality centre backs at 19+
Some look good when not under a lot of pressure but can't cope when under the cosh.

Rangers have a similar system running at Boclair academy and as of this coming August Hearts will do likewise at Balerno academy/high school.
I think the difference is that at Boclair and Balerno only a handful or so have been asked to go. I think.

Ross County Football Club would like to announce that midfielder Jamie Lindsay (21), has joined the club on loan from Celtic F.C. until the end of the season.
Speaking about the loan signing manager, Jim McIntyre said: "Jamie is a young exciting talent who had a fantastic season on loan at Morton last year and I am delighted to get him to our Club. I would like to thank Celtic for assisting in getting this deal done.
Jamie has joined the team in La Manga for their pre-season training camp and will be involved in the friendly matches we have arranged while there.

MORTON HAVE signed freed Celtic midfielder Connor McManus. The 21-year-old has joined on a six-month deal and goes straight into the squad to face Motherwell tomorrow. McManus enjoyed a brief spell on loan at Queen of the South last term, and once scored an audacious chip from 40 yards against AC Milan in the UEFA Youth League. Ton been as Jim Duffy said: “Connor’s a talented player who was very well-schooled at Celtic. He’s a player I think has a lot to give. “In terms of his personality, everyone is glowing about him, so I’m sure he’ll fit in very well amongst the boys. “He’s a player who was available and who we’ve actually spoken about a few times in recent weeks.” https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/celtic-youngster
