2-0 peach from Archibald
Learning from Rogic. Ajer looks to have filled out.
Ajer strolling it. Never realised City are a wee bit younger, but still , good stuff so far from the tiny tims.

Pretty sure in the first leg they looked a lot a bigger and stronger than our players. Particularly in midfield.

Rotten considering we should have been about 3 or 4 up at half time.

The BT Sport commentator said it was a Manchester City U17 side against Celtic's U19s - is that correct?

It got me thinking how can Celtic attempt to narrow the gap to the rich clubs who compete in elite leagues via youth development if these clubs have access to (and are stockpiling) the best young talent?

Lawwell's reports any time we publish financial results always mention the difficulty in competing with the behemoth that is the EPL and how we focus on:
1. Youth development / Producing our own players;
2. Sport science / Coaching;
3. Clever recruitment.

I doubt we're fundamentally more advanced in sport science so we need good coaching (which we seem to have in Rodgers' set up) and astute recruitment (e.g. Dembélé).

I'm not close enough to make definite conclusions on our youth development (and we've brought Tierney through in the last year) but I have my doubts about whether McCart, McIntyre and McGuinness are the right people to drive this forward. McGuinness is essentially a bog ball manager who's learning on the job. I wouldn't be surprised if Rodgers completely overhauls this aspect of the club in the summer.

Never seen the game itself so can’t comment on otday however EPL teams especially in top half are now sourcing/scouring talent from anywhere and everywhere luring young players with homes for parents, cash incentives & the brand of clubs and playing in England to entice them.

The rules are murky even though UEFA/FIFA try to say they are not and rest assured are not being followed by clubs who do such. Our club is at a handicap from the off.

I don’t have the answer nor solution but we are up against it from the off due to the worst thing. Money.

Only carrot we have as a draw is to get them playing at young age near first team and promise them rest will follow..big move etc. Players from foreign shores coming here young to our academy does not happen or is very rare.

Coaches matter’s of course but getting the correct talent young is out of their hands that much when top teamsthey are sourcing best from 5/6 continents. We snookered no matter what.

I think we have to give our boys a lot of credit for what they achieved this afternoon. Man City youth are littered with the cream of the crop from all over Europe.
Sancho who scored their equaliser to make it 2-2 was bought from Watford last year for 500k when he was only 14. Diaz (16) was signed from Malaga for 200k with add ons :rubeyes:
