I like him. Not outstanding in any aspect of the game but invariably gives 100%. As someone said, the perfect squad player.

I was one of his biggest critics when he first came into the team, but he's now a player I really like.

The perfect squad player. Great attitude, always on the move, never stands and admires a pass and always makes himself available.

We need players like him who can do a good job when needed.
TBF he's changed loads since he was first in the team. He used to hide a lot, especially if he was playing out wide and he used to just shoot all the time.

He picks out some really nice through balls and chips in with a fair amount of assists and goals.

Too good for the rest of the SPFL and not quite a first team player for us yet - still time to reach that level though, much like Armstrong.

I'm new. Be gentle.
One of the most reliable players we have at domestic league level and one of the best finishers at the club. At only 23, he still has the potential to improve even further. Fills up one of the 'home grown' slots in the champions league squad too, though he has yet to prove himself at that level. I don't understand the Peter Grant comparisons, a more accurate one in terms of role (if not position) would be Charlie Mulgrew: utility player who tries his hardest and chips in with a good number of goals despite perhaps being a bit more limited than the team's stars.

I've grown to like him. He might never be first choice for us, but he's a useful guy to have in the squad and for all his limitations it's rare that he really lets us down. Thought that was a really good goal yesterday too.

Agree - it was a tricky first touch to take as well, he done well to take the pace off it. Nice finish too

Yeah he definitely has.

He had some better games towards the end of last season in the middle, but even early this season against Hearts at Tynecastle he was guilty of hiding (as was Armstrong).

Definitely not a criticism which could be levelled at him, or Armstrong, now.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
What about in terms of:

"Good player, not the best but will always do you a job kind of guy"

Was this how Grant was viewed back in the day? Or was he genuinely good for that period
Probably about right but you'll never get a good word about Peter Grant on here, some comments I've read over the years about him are hunnish.

Grant had aggression, McGregor's much better technically and a very intelligent player.
I liked Peter Grant in terms of his commitment. Have always stuck up for him on here. But you are right - McGregor is a better player technically. No comparison between the two imo. McGregor is very underrated. Ideal player for Rodgers with his running power and, unlike Grant, he plays with his head up.

He's a very decent option to have, technically very good on the ball and will only get better with games. We have some great options with regards to our centre mid positions with guys like him, Armstrong, Rogic and Henderson to choose from.

When you hear what BR said about Griffiths today and how he trains when out of the team it highlights the professionalism of McGregor that he slotted into the team at the moments notice and mentally and physically he looked like he'd been in the team all season.

He has a running style and passing technique that seems to have surfaced amongst professional footballers in only the last 10 years or so. It's kind of weird, flimsy and ungainly but works.

I like him. Just saying.

Precisely the point Brendan was making and he used Callum as an example. The unsaid part was "I can't rely on Leigh to be able to do that!.

I think I subconsciously regurgitated that having forgot he specifically said that.

He was never a wide player.

That goal against Hearts was outstanding. Difficult enough taking a touch when you are running at full pelt and the ball is behind you but to conjure q finish out of it was brilliant.

Never as his biggest fan but he slots in well to our midfield these days when we are dominating possession. Could be our Leon Osman.

Funny how different folk perceive the same player. I would describe his style of running and passing as classy; most definitely not weird.

I'd never thought about him in that kind of sense before but you're absolutely right; he's one of the players who has real technical ability when shooting in the squad. I'd say he's a better finisher than Armstrong is but lacks something the SA has which gets him into better positions. In saying that shots eventually equal goals and I was surprised to hear that McGregor's goal against the Tarts was only his 3rd this year.

He's had plenty howlers in terms of his finishing. He can take a chance well when presented but he's had many whoppers too.

I wouldn't say finishing was the strongest part of his game by any means

Stood by the lad and ridiculed by many, he is what he is, one things for sure he's still a reliable squad player.
