Im not suggesting he's renowned for it but lazy tracking of runners and bottling challenges was a common part of his game last year.
Whilst I agree to a certain extent with that statement, it doesn't mean he hides in a game. Perhaps lacks that extra bit of drive and determination but not all the time.

I agree with the other poster that he is better when we have the ball than when we don't. When we have the ball, I like how he is constantly moving, opening up angles to receive the ball or make forward passes. He does this better than any other midfielder in the squad.

Think he's growing into a really composed player. Not the finished article by any means but he has really good vision and a range of passing, also quite tricky on the ball. Just one of many players that have improved ten fold under Rodgers
sums it up nicely

Fair enough.

I think if you look back through last seasons matches you will find quite a few where the 'hiding' accusation could be applied to McGregor. He was by no means the only one btw.

For what it's worth if you look back through this thread I have general stuck up for the guy given some of the abuse he's took. As I've been saying for the last 18 months he's a great squad player to have.

Not going to get a game in the Scotland midfield unless they are down to the bare bones. Armstrong can't even get a game although I suspect he will be in the next squad.

His run and then cross for Dembeles shot off the bar is absolutely class. Takes the ball out a dangerous area, passes, bursts down the left and then chips in an inch perfect ball

He's more deserving than McGinn and Kenny McLean for example.

He should be pleased with his performance against Sevco. I quite like him. Not because he's particularly brilliant; he isn't but I think he's a good bit better than some people give him credit for and I think he's working as hard as he can to improve. I can actually relate to players like him in a way that I never can with the likes of someone like Biton who is arguably more talented but - rightly or wrongly - gives me the impression that he's a guy who just turns up for work until it's time to clock off again. With MacGregor I feel that he cherishes every moment he spends on the park representing Celtic and, in that respect, I tend to think that that's what I'd have been like if I'd ever got the Celtic gig in spite of my limited talents. I'd have been that guy who's delighted to play any role and any position that the manager specified for the sake of the team strategy.
At the same time, I'd be hoping that my teammates were a damn sight more talented than me, preferably with a Dalglish or a McStay or a Larsson in the side, but I have a lot of time for those solid, dependable kinds of players who are practically never MOTM material but, when called upon, they happily do a lot of the dependable, unglamourous and frequently unappreciated work that's essential so that the better players can flourish. That's possibly the best that can be hoped for from him but it's good to have one or two players in the squad who have that professional attitude and adaptability.

I was quite shocked when he started on Saturday as I thought Bitton would be a stick-on, given he previous performances against Sevco this season. However, McGregor surprised me and was very good at linking up the play and never shirked from his job. He was over-shadowed by Armstrong, but then being the main-man probably isn't McGregor's forte.

I do however think he'll be one for the chop when Brendan starts bringing in more players.

Used to dread his name popping up in the team sheet but with Rogic out against Rangers, I was secretly hoping he'd make the starting 11....

Difficult to pigeon hole. Can be enterprising enough, with decent work rate and ability to create angles for passes, but also has eye catching errors and poor choices in his game. His play to set up Dembele's volley in the first half typifies the good, his wasted shot over the bar early in the first half typifies the bad.

Not as gifted as Armstrong, and therefore to be considered a genuine starter he's got to be tidier on the ball and do his share of the dirty work, which he doesn't always seem to be up for. It was McGregor that McKay moved past to set them on the way to Miller's chance off the post. A physical player, or even just an experienced player, makes sure to take man or ball or both in that scenario.

As has been said often enough, a good player to have in the squad still striving to improve his game in a squad where standards are rising for many. Would be good for the level of improvement to continue, and for him to find out how to make that telling pass that breaks the lines, as Armstrong did about 10 times the other day.

In the slash and burn of likely or hoped for squad departures, it's to his credit he is not in many people's thoughts to be on the way out. Definitely has a role to play if he continues to improve, although unclear if he'll get as many starts after the window is finished.

This.

I was arguing with some amount of people in the pub after the game re McGregor.

The majority saying he was absolutely rotten and a waste of a jersey.

He was very good second half.

He's another one of those players some folk only notice when he makes a mistake and ignore all the good.

He had a decent game and he is good enough to keep around the squad as filler but I'm hopeful we sign a couple of midfielders in January.

We really need better than McGregor, especially in Europe.
