His movement and desire to show for a pass made our midfield tick and brought the best out of Rogic and Armstrong. Having players that can come on and implement a manager's instructions is invaluable and he has improved performances in plenty of difficult games.

At this point he is a decent spfl player, playing for the best team.

I hope he improves and learns as he ages

I think he is a good bit below the standard required for the champions league at present,

Decent squad player, but hopefully he'll improve with age

So everyone thinks he's a good player again. I'm sure he'll be back to being the worst player ever to pull on the hoops again next week. Seems to change by the week on here.

Did well today, and is such a neat and tidy passer of the ball in the middle, and just keeps everything moving quickly. Great wee drop of the shoulder and finish for the goal.

A very useful squad player to have. I'd love to know how many games the people on here who give him dogs abuse really watch.

That's nonsense.
It's not nonsense at all.

Obviously there are many sensible posters on this thread about McGregor's talents and limitations. But there are quite a few wallopers who come on and tell us how awful he is. I've read loads of posts on here over exaggerating about him, and from mods too. A bit of perspective needed at times.

Like I said, a very useful squad player at this moment in time. I'm sure Brendan agrees.

Dogs abuse = Taking everything into account, McGregor is a hard working player who makes the very most of his limited talent, but long term as we progress under Rodgers' management we need to have players of a higher standard.
To say he has "limited talent" is just not true I'm afraid. I think what's needed is for him to be taught when and how to use his talents correctly. The number of times he's skied a shot from 30 yards doesn't show that he's got limited talent it shows that he believes he can do this and has made a poor decision. This is where BR and his team can excel because of their statistical analysis and methods.

He's no Rogic but is absolutely someone who can take a ball past a man and lay off a good pass it's just that too frequently he's not choosing his moments to do that at the right time. As I've said before in this thread he is a difference maker for us because he can make a central run from deep which can force space in between an opposition's defensive and midfield lines and that's something he showcased again yesterday which, ultimately, changed our attacking nature and got that first goal.

Are you saying mods have any perspective?

I agree with what youre saying. Same thing happens for Armstrong. One week he's amazing, the next he should be toed out the club.

He done well yesterday- kept the momentum going when Motherwell sat off us and took his goal brilliantly.

Doesn't hide the fact that he is not of the required standard if we are a club with ambitions to improve and compete in Europe.

People have different views on him and that happens - I'm sure if we give it a few games there will plenty of evidence to back the alternative view.

Some of the pish people are coming out with after one good game against Motherwell as some sort of vindication of their position and as evidence that others are wrong is laughable.

The lads a decent player but not good enough for us if we want to progress.

Played well yesterday the boy. Its the level that he can turn is good performances. Euro games are beyond him. In no way detracting from his performance ar Murderwell as put in a very good shift.

Took his goal very well which shouldn't surprise giving it is the best part of his game. That it does surprise shows his composure and finishing havent been up to scratch recently. He is still the same player he was last week, last month and last year. Scoring a goal, and putting in a good performance, doesnt change that as he has always been capable of it. There are reasons a large percentage of fans see him as a squad player at best. If you want the club and first team to improve Callum will have to be left behind unless he improves dramatically.

Good homegrown squad player, who knows the club inside out & will always try his hardest.
Will continue to improve too, great attitude & a multi tasker.
I like him & it looks like Brendan, Lustig & others do too.

Less prone to error than Izzy, I wonder if BR will give him a run at left back until Tierney is fit? His ability to slot into midfield when we go to 3 at the back is handy.

Did you mean to post this in the Callum McGregor thread?

Edit: or are you only suggesting this if we go 3 at the back?

That extra touch before his shot yesterday completely took the defender out of the equation and shows he's at least capable of great decision making under pressure. I agree he doesn't always pick the best option but he deserves a lot of credit for that goal out of nothing

Well, your hyperbole about people saying he's "the worst player ever to pull on the hoops" is pish. The fact that you said everyone thinks he's a good player again is pish. Plenty of people go overboard with their criticism but most people think he's a tidy enough player who's an utter shampooebag in the tackle and that we need better than him.

I think what we're seeing now is the system kicking in where passers of the ball are appreciated, we no longer cry out for the defensive midfielder.
Play the ball, take it, pass, find an opening and shoot - it's the Celtic way re-discovered

His first touch is excellent at times and he's always happy to take the ball under pressure. Made a big difference second half along with Armstrong.

Around the box he keeps the ball very very well. Always available for a pass as well.
