Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
it's never that simple. His miss was no worse than Sinclair's in the first match from a similar postion. 1-0 there and who knows what would have happened.
You don't rate him - i get that. but the criticism about the miss is OTT
See that's the thing you are comparing him to Sinclair who is a far superior footballer albeit he missed his chance as well but he has done so much more for us in short period of time than Mcgregor has in the last 2/3 years.

I get the boy missed a very good chance and I'm sure he is gutted but he should not be in our midfield even as back up. He will progress and make money elsewhere but he is just not very good for us in our midfield at this level. I think that's a fair & honest description of him without anything personal about him which I would not to do to any of our players.

Good luck to the guy hopefully he moves on & gets more game time for another club.
No I'm not comparing him to sinclair - I'm comparing his miss to sinclair's and the reaction to each. The end result was the same no goal.

By all means talk about his overall performance( and I think he did ok last night). But using that miss as a stick to beat him with is silly.

Can only speak for myself but my posts on this thread are that he is simply not good enough & yes he missed and he should have at least hit the target. No doubt the boy wants to be a success at Celtic but for me he is not good enough.

See everyone wanting to punt him, could they tell me a better player who'll fulfil a home grown Champions League place and who'll be happy to sit on the bench for the most part?

It's not his fault he's having to play immediate backup in such tough games. Blame that on Bitton and/or the board for weakening us in central midfield.

For what it's worth, his miss aside I thought he was fine anyway. I'm not his biggest fan by any means and am happy to concede he's rather limited, but I think some people are just unrealistic in their expectations.
I agree, MacGregor coming on stabilised the midfield by adding more balance. Brown was excellent but largely had to play the defensive midfield/sweeper role. MacGregor to me linked the play better than Armstrong or Rogic. He is not the greatest but did ok. Like most of the team, he does not have the experience at this level and quite frankly may never make the step up but he fulfilled a role, particularly with the UEFA home grown rule in force.

His chance last night could have have been missed by anyone in the team, shampoo happens. Look at the misses we had from our better players in the games over the past few weeks. We need better homegrown players , everyone gets that but until we do, then players like MacGregor and Armstrong are needed.

He'll be a decent signing for Aberdeen or Hearts.

He was rightly caned for that miss the other night, but that pass for the first today was delightful.

Very poor first half. Came good in the 2nd and his pass was for Sinclair was absolutely sublime.

Started ok and then seemed to struggle when we went 4-4-2 (or a variation thereof).

Much better second half. Looked to get on the ball more and moved it quicker.

Bhoys beside me asked "who did McGregor come on for?" after the first goal. That pass was brilliant.

I would say the opposite. Lack of presence in the middle of the park and his lack of movement off the ball today resulted in him hiding behind Caley players.

Couldn't wait for him to be subbed at half time but was miles better in the second half.

Still not good enough.

He frustrates me so much. He has the talent but too many times he hides. shampoo first half; great second.

Lack of presence is the last thing I would criticize him for, as he is always making himself available for the pass. He's not a great tackler but wins the ball frequently through interceptions and pressing opponents.

As far as squad players go I think he's ok, and that's from someone who badly wanted rid of him a year ago.

We've always had players like that and we always will. need players like that in the squad.

Lovely pass for the opener but other than that he was perfunctory.

I liked him last season better, but while have improved so much I think he's stood still.
Has to work much harder.
