I'm a fan of Callum's and I think he gets a very hard and often unjustified time from many fans, he's always avilable for a pass, he never hides, works his socks off and can chip in with goals, he still has plenty to learn but like Griffiths he seems to have that steely self belief and self confidence about him that will see him do all he can to make if here, whether he does or doesn't time will tell but I don't think he merits anywhere near the criticism levied at him, some almost wish him to fail so they can be proven right, it just doesn't add up.

Many people will say "he's good enough for the SPFL but not good enough for Europe"...and that at the moment maybe true but the only way he'll get better is by playing in that environment, if he plays against the quaiity of opposition we have in our CL group there is no doubt he'll learn a few lessons, if he can take that on board he can hopefully add to his game, Rome wasn't built in a day and good midfielders don't just develop into good midfielders in less than a year, remember up until this January McGregor was used mainly as one of the 3 behind the striker.

There's very little we can do right now to alter the fact we will probably need him during the course of these games and like many of his detractors point out, he actually does more than enough in Scotland to merit a squad selection for these big games, I don't see the problem in supporting the lad and looking for him to develop rather than fail.
He will get my support but he simply is nowhere near good enough.

The thought of him against Barcelona..
He's already played against Barcelona this season.
The next game might be a bit different.

Good enough for domestic games but seeing as we've a lot of CB's I'd play one of them in MF for the CL games. Atm we're giving very little protection to our defence from MF.

So the solution to having a lot of average to poor options in midfield is to play guys who have absolutely no clue how to play that particular position instead?! Against Barcelona, no less?

I don't think we've thought that one through.

"Nowhere near good enough" is harsh, obviously he could develop further and add more to his game but he'd cruise into any other side in Scotland and be their best player or at least their best midfielder, he is also very handy for us, he has shown he has an eye for a pass and can execute it too, it's widely accepted that he's more than good enough for the SPFL, I don't think he's as lacking in Europe as some like to state, fair enough he might not be your man for this Champions League group of death but we'd have been hard pushed to buy anyone who would've been.

If he has much game time in the Champions League I'm under no illusions that he'll get taught a bit of a lesson at times, I'm intrigued to see how 1. He handles it and 2. If he can learn from it and add things to his game

Perhaps it was a little harsh. I just don't think he should be starting for us. Bitton is a far, far better player.

Hopefully he gets the nod ahead of either Biton or Brown. Those two may need better players but are a toxic combination on the pitch. Sideways passes with no movement to advance the game. Just stifles our play and we become predictable.

There is very little, if any, evidence to support that conclusion.

There is a reason why many tipped Bitton to be our next big transfer cash in. He was superb and has went through a rough patch (a fairly lengthy one now to be fair).

If Rodgers can return him to his early form he'll once again be linked with a big money move.

On his day he is a far better footballer than McGregor.

On his day McGregor is definitely better than an off-form Bitton. I would agree with the vise-versa argument too, but McGregor is in better form at this moment.

McGregor has been less than average this season so far.

He was better than Biton against Aberdeen though I'm giving Biton the benefit of the doubt for that one cos of the midweek game.

I don't think Mcgregor even made the game v Aberdeen. I think Dulux are still trying to perfect the purple his faced turned during the match in Israel.

He came on for Biton in the second half, his passing was a lot quicker.

Shows the game I thought he had. Didn't even notice him.

Bitton is a better player ( I don't think it's much of a contest) . My only concern is how poor Bitton/Brown are as a pair that would maybe sway me . I'd rather we addressed the position in the window there, however, we didn't so onward we go.

Mcgregor shouldn't start on Saturday and nor will he.

Needs to make a tackle, great at running about and closing down the space but needs to get a toe in at least instead of standing off, same could be said of every midfielder we have its almost non contact sport they are playing, young KT should be showing them how it's done. :boxer:

He played the last ten mins.

Most people focus on what McGregor does with the ball. Try looking at what he brings when he doesn't have the ball which is virtually zero.

It's really not about who is the better player. It's who fits the system better. At the moment that's MacGregor. Biton and Brown are toxic together and just make us predictable.
