I genuinely think people don't like him cause his running action is very individualistic. I've always been a fan.

Seems very light weight to be our centre mid - If browns not there who would be our steel as i could see mcgregor getting bullied - love to be proved wrong though
Brown's 'steel' is virtually non existent now that he is two yards off the pace. I will happily give up some dig for a player who can control the ball and pass it. I am not saying McGregor is the answer but right now he is better for the team than Brown.
Agree - I'm still not convinced he's good enough, but sadly he's as good as we've got for now. If he keeps improving though I'd be delighted to have been wrong about him.
Id still give Brown time - If he doesnt recover then his time is up but way to early to write him off.

Folk finally coming around to the sclaffer.

He's getting better and scores goals. Deserves a good run.
Theres never really been anything wrong wih the lad. Some folk have been pretty harsh when it comes to him which is strange seeing as some of them tend to be the same ones who bum up wee jamsey like hes a long lost son.
^this.

Passes the ball with a bit of zip, makes space for himself to receive the ball, passes forward more often than not, scores goals, more mobile than Brown and Bitton and always puts in a shift.

And he runs like a boss.

Was never a fan of his but he's developing into a really good player.
Head's always up looking for a pass, always on the move,
he's quick and most importantly his attitude's second to none.
Got a feeling he'll be an important player for us this season.

That's all correct, he's always been positive, I think the frustration has been he's had a tendency to "go missing" for large parts of games. If he can improve the mental side of his game and stay involved longer he'll do OK.

But the fact is, with no disrespect to the lad, that if he is at the top of the picking order in our Central Midfield it does not reflect well on the health of our squad

Played as a winger when he first broke through. He was a no.10 when he came up through the ranks. Think he definitely suits a more central role but certain systems will suit him more than others

I really like young Callum, I think he's really came into his own as a CM though, he's decent in the AM role but I think we've got far better, deeper in the midfield is where he's come into his own, always felt sorry for him, he came into the team when Deila took over and the team was all over the place, he ended up struggling after a good start, if he came into a settled side he'd have had a lot more lee-way.

I like how he never hides, is always available for a pass and is actually willing to play positive passes into dangerous positions, he could easily do what Brown does and constantly passing to the CBs or FBs, get his pass completion high but his natural instinct is to play positive passes, they don't always come off but it'll not effect him, he seems to have a thick skin to which playing for Celtic you definitely need, I hope we give him a good go at making the CM position his own.

We talk about no.10s here but in Germany they also talk about no.8s and no.6s for midfielder. The latter is an outright defensive midfielder. The former is more of a box to box midfielder who assists the others. Not outright creative or entirely defensive. Think Johansen is more this type but we frequently try to use him otherwise. McGregor too can build from deep.

He's looked good in preseason and I would have started him in Gibraltar

I think that he & Tierney coming through, will be a vanguard of impressive homegrown talent - that will eclipse the likes of Forrest & Mulgrew.
Both have visibly took onboard coaching & have really developed their game.
Callum in particular has taken his time, gone out on loan to England & worked away in the background to get his chance, in a bloated area of the team. Kieran has been more meteoric & has established himself more quickly, in an area with less competition.
Both have shown great work ethnic & attitude, this is why I'm hopeful of others coming through - seeing the example set by these 2.
Callum looks like he's learned a hard lesson with his driving ban & has taken responsibility for it.

I'd hope to see both players in the 1st team every game.

Spot on. It must be good to play in the same side as him as hes always there offering a pass. Ive watched him closely over the last year or so and hve been really impressed by him. Hes never a winger in a million years and even struggles to play no10 because he aint great with his back to goal. Plant him right into centre mid and let him play and enjoy his game. A brown or someone more defensive can play alongside him in there just to tidy up if he is under pressure or does give it away. Majority of fans starting to come round to him but many seem to caveat their praise for some reason.

typical scottish football outdated pish attitude, he has good technique and lets the ball do the work. He is a ball playing centre mid not a snarling defensive mid and remind me exactly when brown last provided some steel? brown charges in head less and technical players rip the pish out of him in europe.

Thought he was a poor man's James Forrest after 6 months but he isn't a winger and shouldn't have been played there.

He is technically decent, hard working and seems to be improving. Far more deserving of a run in centre mid than others.

He was the difference in a lot of Ronnys early games, is good technically and works hard for the team. I've never understood some of the criticism? He's a far better choice in the middle of the park than the Brown or Bitton and should have been in there last season aswell. I just hope Brendan sees this aswell.

This second sentence is the key to his game. He has great work rate and positional intelligence, and his team mates are always given an option by him. His mobility also allows him to close people down quickly, although his defensive game probably needs work. He's a really good player who should be an automatic first pick.

Starting to grow on me. I think that's as I'm comparing his application and effectiveness to the other cretins that make up centre mid.

I think you're onto something. He doesn't look like a footballer. He's a bit awkward looking and he runs funny. The pictures of him modelling the new kit looked like a wee boy who'd been bought it for his holidays. If he looked like Stuart Armstrong he'd be everybody's favourite player. If Armstrong looked like McGregor we'd all be desperate to see the back of him.

I think in modern football there are far less "cloggers" about and you can probably get away with being CM and be McGregor's size.

I stress I am NO way comparing him but if you look at a player like Fabregas who played CM for Arsenal. There are other examples now of smaller CM's. Possibly as tackling has become less prevalent

Not the flashiest player, but plays the game relatively simply - pass and move, run into the right areas and has a genuine goal threat (and has scored a fair few goals in important games). On top of all that, he seems to have a terrific attitude and work ethic.

He probably isn't (yet?) at the level of player we want to have in our midfield but he's steadily improving all the time and is more effective and worthy of a starting place than other 'more talented' midfielders.
