The problem with getting rid of McGregor is that we need 4 over 21 players home grown at the club for Europe. If we don't have that we lose a squad space. Right now we have him, Mulgrew and Forrest IIRC. If we get rid of all of them we're just needlessly depriving ourselves of squad depth for Europe.

Would rather keep him than selling him for a small fee then buying some rejected former youth product to make up the numbers again.

Do they have to be club trained or just association trained? ie would Gordon, Armstrong, Griffiths, GMS, Allan etc count?

4 club trained and another 4 from the association. So Gordon, Brown etc count in the latter

He is a decent finisher and gets goals. Would have four or five players starting in the middle ahead of him.
Really? If they're all fit I'd have Bitton, Brown (If he starts to get his finger out) and maybe Armstrong ahead of him (If he ever gets a run in the middle of the park).

I'm assuming you mean the two "sitting" midfielders btw. If you mean the 3 behind the striker then I agree, there's plenty in front of him there.
Yeah sorry, I meant in the attacking slot. Although I'm not sure for most games we could play him in the holding/sitting role as he ain't the biggest.

From Wanyama to McGregor in a couple of short years :Bye:

Actually makes us better.
He does. Which is the depressing thing because I still don't think he's good enough for Celtic. He was good today and has been good since he came into the team months back but that just goes to show you that we can actually play a guy in the middle of the park who'll look to drive forward and play football. It doesn't need to be so cautious in there all the time. I like his style of play more than I like him (as a player). The role he's been getting games in should be where Allan gets a game instead of the left hand side.
He's better than Allan from what I've seen so far. Quite a bit better.

I think so too not that it's saying much but Hell will freeze over before his detractors admit he has made a decent contribution this season.

Because he's playing in a natural position and Allan isn't... Put Allan in the middle instead of out wide where he's always having to cut inside onto his right foot and he'd look a much better player than we've seen. Judging from his time at Hibs v McGregor's time with us I'd say Allan is the better player.

Getting on a bit
[ * * * * * * * * * * ]
He's the epitome of what wrong with us at present. While he would walk in to every other team in the land he looks as if he will never kick on a be a real guaranteed starter for us. He has 3/4 good games then shades and Ronny being Ronny drops him and brings in another just like him for a few games!

He should be back up.
He is back up, cup games are normally when back up players get a run out and he played well today.

I like McGregor, he's had some great games for us playing in the middle and is a goal threat.
He also keeps the ball moving and normally in a forward direction which is a novelty for this team.

Like GMS though, some people are never going to give him credit when he has a good game.

Sure, but Mulgrew and Forrest are almost certainly going. Getting rid of all three would put us down to something like a 20/21 man euro squad max.

Hardly worth it for the small amount of money we would get/save. He's a very limited player but a useful guy to have around the squad who shows the right attitude.
