A year is pretty lenient actually. He'll do his time. Nonsense to suggest he should be sacked for this, utter nonsense.
4 times the limit and you think its nonsense to suggest sacking him? Why? Because he didnt kill someone?

Clueless
Should certainly be sanctioned by the club.
Says at the bottom of The Herald article that he was fined 2 weeks wages by the club.

It says much for the attitude of some players that after a poor result they were given time off three days before a match and they go out, stay out late and drink enough to be four times the limit when stopped by the polis.

I don't think he should be sacked for drink driving, itd be easy for me to say so as I don't rate him, as it doesn't preclude him from doing his job but if the club were to get rid, which they won't, I wouldn't shed a tear for such a daft, at best, twit. Just add him to the embarrassment we have playing up front for us but who gets hero worshipped.

As I said he effed up. I also dont rate him as a player.

But really, are we now saying someone who gets disqualified for drink driving and gets a fine should be sacked? If so, why?
i'm not saying he should be sacked

but aren't professional footballers at the biggest club in the country followed by hundreds of thousands of people public figures, role models for kids and the community, held to a higher standard, all that sort of thing?

Do we not all have an element of risk in our job? Clients I work for would no doubt be appalled should it happen to me, but have I breached my ts and cs with my employer? Well if I am fit for work next day and make it, then probably not.

i'd expect there would be certain clauses in a footballer's contract that would see him sacked for certain things, though it's probably fairly generic (nothing to cast club in bad light etc)

i can't recall any club doing it for drink driving but i suspect they could probably justify it if they were so inclined

He's been punished. As far as I know he will still be capable of doing his job. There is no reason to sack him saving the usual self righteous nonsense on here whenever someone does something silly.
drink driving at 4 times the limit is a bit worse than something silly
Aye fair enough. I don't believe it warrants him losing his job though.

up on the roof!!

His reading was 78.....limit is now 22.... I know the Herald is now utter dross but I would have thought basic arithmetic was still within their grasp

Old limit was 35 ... his reading is one that was fairly typical under the previous regime...just over double the old limit...quite a few sheriffs would have gone beyond the minimum 12 month ban at that level ....he's a very lucky boy

Would say that reading is indicative of having had five or six pints ( or equivalent) over the evening :ponder:

Absolutely mental that he would consider driving ..... beyond stupid :cuckoo:

Thought it was him?

Jim, I'm confused. His reading was. 78 so nearly 4 times. If before it was just over double, why is he lucky with sentencing now and glad it wasn't before? What has changed as I would have expected tougher punishments now.
