So Jamie Smith, Ross Wallace and Ross McCormack would all walk into this Celtic team? Really?
Jamie smith for one wouldnt
I was never his biggest fan, but Jamie Smith played plenty of games in a far better Celtic side than this one.

If McGregor improves anymore comparing him with Jamie Smith will be old hat. It'll be McGregor or Lubo.

Jamie Smith wasn't a bad player at all - better than mcgregor technically. He's never been forgiven by a lot of supporters for shirking a tackle in a European game one time. Mcgregor wouldn't do that, at least.

McGregor is a decent talent, worthy of a squad place and, as has been shown recently, can come in and hold the jersey until injuries/suspensions ease.

I don't know what people expect at times. We need back-up players and not all of them are the next generation of superstars. McGregor has done fine overall.
Absolutely. And good back-up players will often improve as they get game time to challenge the so-called stars. It gets tiresome reading the constant, not criticism, but total dismissal of our players, especially our young home breds, who seemingly have to be twice as good as the imports in some peoples eyes.

Jamie Smith played a lot of games in a much better Celtic team because we could afford to play Jamie Smith since we were a much better Celtic team. He was no better than McGregor.

...Aye ...Maybe for Dundee Utd tho..

he is not a very good player, in the side atm because we have so many injuries, if all squad was fit he wouldn't make the bench.

Punt

I was never his biggest fan, but Jamie Smith played plenty of games in a far better Celtic side than this one.
And so did Rab Douglas and Momo Sylla.

Jamie Smith was a decent player but, like Ross Wallace, he was ultimately never good enough to be a regular starter for Celtic. The idea that either of them would "walk" into this or any Celtic team is just daft. Jamie Smith couldn't even walk into a poor Aberdeen team at points in his career. Both of them, like McGregor, would get some game time (mostly due to injuries and squad rotation) but that's it.

Tend to agree with this. I'm not sure whom either would replace in this current team. Jamie Smith has had the grand total of 123 starts in his career including 23 for us.
He's walking nowhere.

Ross Wallace is a far better player but again I wouldn't say he walks into this current side.

He'd be a natural left sided winger, something we don't seem to have,

Mackay Steven seems to cut inside even from the left. Wallace goes to the byline.

I don't disagree with you. As I said, I wasn't Jamie Smith's biggest fan and I don't think he'd be a regular in this side. I would, however, say he was better than McGregor.

Jamie Smith looked better because of the quality of player he had around him.

He's likely be every bit as average as McGregor playing in the current side.

Always remember him coming back from an injury and seemed to find about 4 yards of pace

One of the players that is guilty of gifting possession unnecessarily in midfield. Commons and Johansen more guilty of this to be fair. He looked decent on Friday as Utd constantly gave us the ball back or hoofed it out of play. You can see why we struggle when we face European teams that can hold onto the ball. I'm convinced we are going nowhere in Europe unless we bin the guilty players.

I'm.not McGregors biggest fan as a quick scan of this thread will tell you but he put in a good performance tonight. It was helped by how poor the opposition was but you can only play what's in front of you. He deserved his MOTM award.

Excellent tonight, thought he was good on Froday as well. Think he is more suited to playing in the middle as he's not the type to beat a man on the wing
