Watching the Frankie Boyle Russia Special, it struck me that Calum looks like a younger Frankie.

“Callum must be one of the most underrated players I’ve ever known with his ability to keep the ball but also to break the lines and score.

“With his first goal you see his speed to get in then the finish. Then there was desire off Moussa’s strike, which might have gone wide, to slide in and get his second goal.

“He is a super player and a talented player who can play in many positions.”

Callum McGregor is underrated to the same extent as Paul Scholes was :brickwall: If anything he is now overrated by our support.

A couple of years ago a section of fans overrated McGregor. Their opinions were based on the player McGregor could be rather than the performances he was giving. When he got deserved criticism their defence of him was pretty paternal. Now his performances have improved this protective instinct and probably a 'See I was right all along about him' attitude has resulted in every little thing he does being overrated.

I'm glad he has improved but still wouldn't have him in my strongest XI whereas others would have him as one if our most vital players. Opinions eh?

Agreed.

My main beef with him starting games was due to having imo better players sitting on the bench i.e Edouard

From the Zenit game till the end of the season he was superb and justified his position, but there were many months of the season he was anonymous and played game after game.

Big season for him

Nail on head.

If we strengthen the first team to the extent that we would all like to, he'll be back to being a great squad player.

 he’s not a squad player. He’s here to stay in the starting XI. He delivers in Europe unlike most of our team.

Don't really see the big deal. When he was pish, he was called out for being pish. When he's good he gets the plaudits. People change their opinion due to the evidence in front of them.

It is the people (if they even existed) who called him a player when he broke into the team who were 'wrong'. Because he wasn't, he was pish.

Well done to the kid for working on his game and getting the results.

You should have done that really clever thing where you make his name sound foreign.

He wouldn't be playing in a position that keeps Edouard out the team though so not sure what your point is here.

Maybe it’s worth thinking about what stage a player is at in there career before having to pass them off as pish.
Young homegrown Scottish player who has been scoring important goals since he was first given his break, scored in the CL, cup finals and regularly against the Huns, and some still need to clarify he was pish when he was developing.

It’s madness, especially as it’s players like KT and McGregor that will inspire the next group of young players.

 Those two posts.

Every season is going to be a big season for McGregor according to those that don't rate him.

As for overrated by our support? Seriously, go back and read this thread check the balance of the posts. He has a small core of supporters, a few reluctant "he's better than I thought" and the rest are on his back everytime he misplaces a pass.

last season i felt we were slow in build up and often went back and sideways when we should have been going forward.

McGregor was one of the few that turned and ran at the defence.
we really needed that and his goal scoring was an added bonus, often in important games.

He would be in the my team( at the moment)
of course i would love us to sign so many better players that he is reduced to a bench or back up role!!!

Edouard can play on the left or as a number 10. Both roles that McGregor has played
