Saw this on Twitter this morning...

Callum McGregor this season.
Games 49
Starts. 36
Goals. 10
Assists 8
So out of 36 starts, he has scored or assisted 18 times. A 1 in 2 ratio if you like. That's pretty influential.
He's come on as a sub and scored (1-1 St Johnstone) so you can't just ignore the sub appearances and assume all of the goals have come from his starts. Still great stats all the same

Naw, out of 36 starts and 13 sub appearances he has scored or assisted 18 times.

Unless you’ve checked back and he’s neither scored or got an assist after coming on as sub?

Score v Dundee in the cup as well after coming on as a sub

Considering retirement

A better measure is to use minutes on the pitch.

In all comps, McGregor has had 3311 minutes this season, with fully six games to play. In the whole of last season he managed 2769, 542 minutes less or six full games.

He's got more goals (10 to 8) but less assists (8 to 11) compared to last season, which obviously is over a full season.

Clearly, a lot of his additional starts and minutes are down to his own good form and contribution, but we have also had a fair amount of injuries this season to Rogic, Armstrong and Roberts.

It’s effin depressing reading this thread.

The lad is a Celtic player and this nonesense is a scandelous. Maybe too many lurkers trying to maintain their post counts.

He has been great for us under the last 2 managers. Won't be on a massive wage but contributes greatly. Filled in admirably at left back ffs. Great attitude. If everyones fit maybe he doesnt start but he has mostly done well when called upon.

Anyone else apart from Armstrong injured on Sunday? Given where McGregor played I don’t think Armstrong would have been picked ahead of him.

He's been the best of a bad bunch for a month or so, I'd keep him on corners.

Either way, 49 appearances in the one season - and it hasn't even finished yet - is some going. Morelos seems an ever present for the huns and he's played 37 games. Add on a third more to get to McGregor's appearances. No wonder some of our players are looking like they need a rest

Overall obviously.

In his club career it's actually better than that when you count his time at Notts County, better than 1 in 5.

Not on Sunday I guess. But in other games he's played when Armstrong and Rogic have been injured. My main point is that I'm defending his inclusion. He's earnt his place.

Absolutely.

The commentators from all media were quite annoying about his goal. Just blabbing on about defensive mistakes.

That was one sweet hit, on the move, with his weaker foot. Brilliant finish and delighted for the boy.

I even like his celebaration nowadays
