I actually like McGregor. He does well in big games - particularly Europe and the huns recently. He's not always box office, he can be occasionally frustrating, but never hides and plays any role asked of him. Left back in the cup final last year being a case in point. He's not by any means a number 10. He's more suited to Broony's area of the park I think, but we have Broony for that. I'm also not suggesting that McGregor's style of play is similar to Brown's, but his ability to keep the ball moving in the middle of the park lends itself well to something less advanced than a number 10. I really don't get the desire to slate him at the first opportunity. |

Can get where you are coming from, but McGregor will never drive a team as a captain on or do the grafting that Brown does, so McGegor is neither that ball winning 'general' nor the gifted #10, agree he's become a bloody useful utility player who has scored vital goals for us. His time might become more limited with Musonda and Rogic and Roberts returning to fitness but Brendan trusts him so he'll always be in the squad I reckon for his versatility Took his goal brilliantly

He reminds me of the importance that Darren Fletcher used to have for Man Utd. Again, not necessarily style of play (I know this sounds odd!) but in general importance to the team. He does a lot of the quiet but important work, keeping play ticking over and as you say, neither a ball winning colossus or a virtuoso number 10. He's a decent player on his day. No Paul McStay, but no Mike Galloway either. |

It was a put down, probably to piss off the “laptop fannies” as much as anything else but a put down all the same. There’s examples of point scoring “laptop fannies” in the James Forrest thread.

Seems well in tune with the players round him , especially Dembele, and is always looking to get in with little give and goes. Not gifted , but doesn't hide , good squad player. |

Don't get that. Football is football is football. You're either good at it or not. McGregor is good at it most of the time, no matter where it is played. Yes he does seem to play better in big games, but that says more about his temperament and includes cup finals, huns games, league deciders etc., not just Europe. |

Eh? In BR's first season McGregor was outstanding, and so was the team. He also chipped inwith quite a few key goals. In the first half of this season,he has not been so good and neither has the team. He also seemed to have lost his scoring touch, which we have sorely missed. Need I go on, or am I being too bizarre? Edited by kellybhoy, 16 Feb 2018, 09:20 PM.

Do you think the key difference between the Celtic of last season and the Celtic of this season is Callum McGregor's form ? |

I read it that he was commenting on the impact of the team's form on McGregor's confidence and ability to play, and the impact of McGregor on the team rising when this occurs. I kind of one hand washes the other and not an assertion that McGregor's for is a sole factor in the form of the team. I may well be wrong though. |

No, I was remarking that McGregor's form seem to coincide/fluctuate with the team's form. People can draw their own conclusions from that. It could be just coincidence, but it is an observation that has been made many times by many people about many different players. Nothing bizarre about it. |

My sincerest apologies for misunderstanding you. I thought that you said Celtic play well because McGregor plays well. I now understand that you said that McGregor plays well because Celtic play well.

McGregor had a great game because the tempo of the play was much higher. He's a much better player on instinct than he is when he has time. He never hides and is always moving and wants the ball. |

His interchange with Forrest first half when JF put in a great cross where Dembele or KT could hav3 got on the end of it was class. The work rate from Calum to get back onside during the move summed the guy up. Never stops moving, or looking, and never hides. Deserves his time in the limelight. Good on him. |
