Hadn't read this thread since late December. Here's one of the comments from then taken at random. You know who you are.

The boy is clueless. As someone said above like a man down. His positional sense is diabolical
He played an different role tonight.

He’s always had that type of performance in him. Similar to what he did v Bayern. The issue is him playing like that then having a run of poor form like he has had over the last few months.

Needs to do it on a regular basis.

The other thing is Edouard and Musonda were just as effective in the small roles they had.

Whose to say we might have won by 2 or 3 if one of them had started instead?

A bit early for the dick swinging.

He played very well tonight but wasn’t flawless. Had a few mistakes in the first half but overall played brilliantly.

Hadn't been on this thread since December 31st so some interesting comments to open up to.

That was a great performance and a really outstanding finish to a very high quality build up. Great technique and movement all the way from Tierney winning the ball back in our half. His goal against Munich was also an excellent finish from a superb move from Forrest.

Personally I'd have started Musonda in his place. And even though he was playing well I thought that when Charly came on it would be McGregor to make way. Shows what I know.

Rodgers evidently rates him. He's not going to play in every game. But if he has games and goals like that in him then he's a good player to have around the place.

He just scored one of the best goals I've seen Celtic score in Europe so hats off to him.

Been a critic of McGregor this season but he was superb tonight. I agree with Remy’s assertion that he’s more suited to European football. His defensive work especially in pressing totally disrupted Zenit and they didn’t have an answer to it.

Seems to me that , in the past season and a half at any rate, when Cal is at his best so are Celtic. He has not been having a great season and we have been badly missing his scoring touch as well as his creative play. I watched the game on TSN in Canada and the analysts at half time were raving about him. I hope this means he is back to his best and good on BR for sticking with him.

Outstandingly brilliant last night and a sublime finish, been a Champion of McGregor since day one, I agree his form has dipped during the season which several of our squad have suffered, i just wish he could add consistency to his game.

Opinions have a way a biting you on the arse I should know  but take it on the chin it’s only the internet :there:

I would have if I thought he merited it. I have before and will again.
Don't understand how you don't think he merits being in the top 3 :hmmm:

Thought he played really well and took his goal very well. Covered some amount of ground and never hid for the whole game. Best performance for a while.
I’m just winding FB up. He’s previously said he doesn’t know why he doesn’t like him, I’m sure he actually said he had an irrational hatred of him
If he’d scored a hat trick tonight I wouldn’t have expected FB to make him his MOTM, maybe top 3 though

Played well tonight.

He may be more suited to European football than domestic games. Like Kenny Miller was.

Best game he’s had in the jersey and you compare him to that cretin. :nono:

McGregor was superb last night. Strangely, during the first half i found myself becoming frustrated by him at times - this despite being a massive advocate of starting him in Europe in the past.

I've spent some time reflecting on this feeling of frustration, and think the reason for that frustration are two-fold;

1) his lack of pace
2) he's not really a skilful player who can go past a man

On a couple of occassions last night those two shortfalls/weaknesses in his game resulted in him losing possession of the ball or an attack falling down. Now this isn't a criticism at all - all our players have areas of there game which could be better, its more of an acknowledgement of my lack of understanding during yesterdays game.

What he is very very good at is taking the ball in difficult areas, recycling the play and retaining possession as well as breaking into dangerous areas and grabbing goals. This is invaluable in europe and helps us play further up the park. This was a key influence on yesterday's game.

Well done wee man

Domestically he's been poor for quite a while, he slowed down play, wasn't finding spaces, creating nothing. Last night was one of his best performances in a Celtic strip. He dragged their MF all over the place and supported Moussa brilliantly.

His face when he was being interviewed was brilliant, biggest smile you'll see

McGregor's job tonight was to press high. Looked like Him and Kouassi had been told to do all the running to get in Zenit's faces and force mistakes then when you get it, get the ball under control quickly and get it forward. Even without his goal he had an excellent game and did his job brilliantly. The bonus was the superb goal.

When we dominate the ball so much domestically against packed defences his effectiveness is diminished because he's not tricky, or particularly quick and cant play with his back to goal so he's fairly easy to take out the game. Same with Ntcham playing the same role.

He's got limitations at the top level but he's a player who will run all day and do the job the manager wants him to do. That's why BR likes him so much I would think.
