Had a good game imo - should have finished when he had the chance, but other than that he did a great job moving into space so the other players had an option for a pass.

Think that this gets ignored a lot. But his of the ball work is second to none in the squad.

He is the kind of player that the manager and teammates love to have on the field as he makes the team better than if he hadn't been on.

Yesterday he didn't shine by scoring or making an assist. But he did the job making the game flow and had a decent job closing down. You need players like that

Him and Brown had control over the midfield which were there job

He’s a sub at best. The kind of sub the opposition don’t like late on when they’re tiring because of his energy.

Disagree with most of that. Yes he was essentially man marked by their no. 13, but he didn’t do nearly enough to make space and provide an option. As for this idea of making the “game flow”, for McGregor this mainly consists of showing for the ball passing it back to the defender and a half hearted turn and run - with the return pass never being on. Also frustrating to see him pointing to his feet as though he’s available when he’s hiding behind players. There was a lack of meaningful or even forward passes from him last night. Not to mention the amount of times it’s just far too easy for the opposition players to go past him.
He’s not a no.10 and his lack of presence for me, when he plays deeper, really shows against better opposition. Would’ve loved to have been proven wrong with this one, but I’d be drop him at the minute.

Still a vital squad player but been ineffective of late. Needs to be a bit quicker with his passes and improve his decision making. Bench for a bit.

I do like him but he hasn't been playing great, too many average performances lately. I know he is not having the best of seasons but we miss Rogic. Having that bit of quality there makes a big difference for us then McGregor gives that other option of playing between the lines and his constant movement. Now he is playing all the time he doesn't seem to have that same energy to demand the ball and make bursting runs like he did when he was coming in and out of the side. He is taking less chances.

I think he doesn't really know how good he can be, when he is on it he can be a top player. Good passer, can finish, great on the turn, movement, can beat a man but he seems to take the easy option a lot and being a bit lightweight doesn't help either.

he literally is a man down, manages to change an attack in opponents box into bomb scare boyata floofing about with the ball in the space of one backpass.

That's overstating it a tat IMHO, he's short on confidence in a team that's struggling just now and is short of inspiration and spark in the middle of the park which he was providing a month ago, a spell on the bench and have him available in a team that hasn't got Boyata, Simunivic or an off form Sinclair and Lustig and he'll be a valuable squad player

Unless some daft EPL team offers us more than £3 million and its goodnight from him :)

All of what you suggest is exactly what you get from an on form McGregor. To state it happened last night is mind boggling, he slowed the game down almost every time he touched the ball.
He had plenty opportunities to turn and be positive but just settled for returning the ball back to the defender it came from. That’s the type of gameplay we’re looking from him in European games when we need to retain possession, to do it v Partick Thistle is just laziness. Playing with his back to goal for long periods of the match v the team at the bottom of the league isn’t good enough.

Probably needs a bit more analysis, but McGregor as the most advanced midfielder with Edoard in the main striking role does not really work. It's too lightweight. Not that it has been much better when Griffiths or Dembele have been up top. But we don't have much of a presence centrally high up the pitch with those two.

McGregor seems to have done enough to stay in the manager's team lately, but I am not really too sure why based on recent displays, other than the injury to Rogic. Presumably the manager thinks a midfield of Brown, Ntcham and Armstrong has too much of the same thing to be effective.

He still does quite a bit of unappreciated stuff well, movement off the ball and keeping the game moving. There is an infuriating lack of plenty other things though and it is really noticeable when McGregor gets a run of games, as opposed to coming off the bench, or coming back into the team from games out.

Would go along with quite a few other posts. He really should not be a starter when his form is so indifferent at best.

In amongst the correct criticism he's getting here, right to also point out, he's playing in a position that he's not suited for and looks much more comfortable when in his best positions . Not many players shine in being out of position

Was fine as a fringe player but now that he’s a regular starter, his limitations are getting more and more exposed.

It's really not happening for him atm. Earlier in the season he was finding space, rarely giving the ball away and looking like a goal threat, atm he's not contributing at all.

Me too

I actually made a point of watching his "off the ball work" for about 10 mins in the first half and he was hardly showing for the ball. I thought he was worse than a man down last night.

Plays pass then moves but hides behind his marker. And repeat.

Aye, that was it.

At one point in the 2nd half he had a clear chance to take a shot at goal from the edge of the box, swivelled and went back.

Makes Brown's job more difficult too. We'd get more out of Brown if he was playing with better players around him.
