I seem to be the only guy in the ground who thought he was very ordinary for the most part tonight.

You weren't.

Just the two of you then.

I'm not saying that he had a bad game by any stretch, and he more than played his part.

However I genuinely wouldn't have him in my top five players from last night.

It's great that he has stepped up a level and now gives us an option that he may not have given us previously.

Maybe I'm in the minority on here in believing that there can be opinions somewhere between deification and burning at the stake.

Does the person who posted "There's no one better" honestly believe that he is our best player ? :ponder:

I thought he was great. A player I feel I can rely on when he has the ball.

I also thought he had a good game. Not great. But to be good against bayern munich is better than being brilliant against anyone in the SPL. Against world class opposition mistakes will be made, but he never hides. And he took his big chance when it came.

Delighted with his 'good' performance.

Judging by the shouts from the sitting guy behind me tonight, you weren't the only one. (unless you sit in 403 :ph43r: )

You were both wrong
86% passing accuracy. A number of times he received the ball turned and started a forward drive where it would have been easier to just receive and give. He was very good.

Yup.

This time last year he missed
This year he scored
Scoring goals in big games is getting to be his thing.
He is becoming a "turn to" player when the heat is on.

Agreed.

He wasn't great by any stretch.

Absolute drivel.

Brilliant last night and he’s completely won me round. I had to laugh at the floof who said he’s always been this good though. He’s really not always been this good - Rodgers has moulded him into an excellent option for us to have.

Even forgiven him for his miss in Germany last season.

What a difference a year has made to his technique and composure at the highest level, from that miss v BMG in almost the same scenario to having the confidence and ability to slide that shot through the keepers legs.

Don't look for anything spectacular in McGregor, he does the simple things but carries it out very well. Plays fitbaw the easy way.
Naw, add me to the list. Whilst he took his opportunity really well and I'm glad that another academy player is making an impression at this level, he needs to improve his passing.

A number of times the recipient of his pass needs to halt their run to take it in. At one stage he delivered a square pass that was behind the player (think it was Armstrong). He'll no doubt continue to improve but I must admit I'm surprised by the number of people equating his performance last night with the standard that Tierney and Forrest set.

How does that work for Kieran Tierney ?

Or Scott Brown ?

He's been excellent recently, he can keep the ball better than most of our midfield, can create and works hard at winning it back. As I said earlier, there is nothing fancy about him but he does the basics very well.

Our last 5 games, McGregor has played the full 90 in three of them. Wins over Hibs (s/f), Aberdeen and obviously last night v Bayern. He didn't play any part the away defeat v Bayern when we really needed ball retention or the draw with Killie when we needed something different after Paddy went off.

I'm not making him out to be some kind of messiah but for me credit where it's due, his progress under Rodgers has been just as good as Forrest or Armstrong.

that's not the case though. He's a decent player who's getting rave reviews for being decent. No more , no less. He's a decent player. So is Stuart Armstrong. So are a good number of our players. Nothing wrong with being decent, but last night, he gave away possession easily on a few occasions . I wasn't the only one who commented on it at the game. It's not a crime, but it doesn't merit some of the plaudits he got for his performance. I didn't think he was in our top 5 players last night. Forrest, Brown, Tierney , Lustig and Bitton all had better games in my opinion. And three of them are Scots.

Forrest and Tierney definitely had better games. Lustig made one vital mistake allowing the cross for their second. McGregor was pivotal in a good few attacking plays. 86% passing accuracy. Also he tends to take the ball in tight spaces and do something positive so tends to lead to lost possession that way. Not sure he was any sloppier than Brown or Armstrong in this regards. It's the nature of the position. They can't all be Iniesta. Bitton was good for a midfielder who was asked to play CB.
