I'm concerned this lot are taking us for mugs again. This has got a dreadful transfer window written all over. If we don't get past legia its solely down to the bampots that run the club. |

When the huns were liquidated two years ago, we had two choices. 1) Carry on as normal, signing the best players we could afford and producing the best possible team to make progress in Europe and entertain the fans. Or 2) Use the opportunity to downsize dramatically because there's no domestic competition. We'll win the league easily regardless of whether we spend money and/or keep hold of our existing best players so there's an opportunity to make loads of dosh while at the same time continuing to pick up trophies. Unfortunately, the board chose option 2. I know why they did it and there are some (semi-logical) arguments for saying it was the right course of action. But I just feel that long-term it will come back to bite us and, fundamentally, some people seem to have forgotten that football isn't an ordinary business. |

Vvd wasn't a project. £3m on a centre half is probably the equivalent of £7/8m on a striker. I am happy for us to sign projects when we are already strong in that position - when we signed wanyama we had an on form kayal, brown and ledley. We signed bangura and balde when we were desperate for a striker. The problem is more to do with the scouting than the budget. It was obvious guys like wanyama and VVD were class acts after a few games. And it was obvious balde amd bangura were pish. |

TBF we probably only went into that side of the market due to banking £2.5m for Kelvin Wilson (who would be on more wages than VVD) |

Happy overall but our holding off for transfers and not being willing to put an extra million here and there for better quality players is rather frustrating. |

I'm not sure we are "holding off" on transfers, maybe just letting Ronnie see what his priorities are. I'm pretty certain we will sign a player or two relatively soon. |

I think we hold off every year FB and I'm pretty sure we miss out on better quality players due to this. Although I hope and would love Pukki to be the answer we still need a proper goalscoring striker. I now can't ever see the board backing any manager to get that kind of striker. |

The problem with waiting though is that all the best players who are looking for a move this summer are currently being snapped up. By the time we drag ourselves into the market, all that will be left is the dross that no one else wants. Player recruitment planning for the following season should start around January/February - especially in the current era where we know we're going to win the league and are guaranteed to be playing vital CL qualifiers in July. |

When you look at the poor state of our player pool how can anyone be happy with the board? I'm realistic & realise that we can't compete at the highest level, nor sign the very best of players, but we are clearly not prepared to invest anywhere near the level that what we can well afford. When the Celtic manager requests a Fletcher or a Finbogasson then he shouldn't have to settle for a Flood ,Pukki or Balde instead. After our achievement in qualifying for the last 16 we were in a great position to build. By all means bank the previous years CL jackpot, but a good percentage of the transfer money brought in last summer should have been made available to the manager.Again being realistic I think we have a right to expect a side good enough to expect to comfortably qualify for the group stages & have a very good chance of securing European Football after Xmas most years. What we have now is well short of that I'm afraid.Since our last 16 qualification we have weakened the side beyond recognition. How can this be acceptable? As things stand right now does it really matter if we squeeze through to the group stages this year? If we are lucky enough to get there we will be well out of our depths & as the last 2 years have shown the money collected won't be used to strengthen our team anyway. |

Sadly we are now a selling club. We buy players and keep them for a year or two. We have done well in reaping profits from sales of Wanyama,Hooper,Ki and McGeady. Forster and Virgil will be sold for huge profit. Whether we can keep on doing this and still expect to qualify for the Champions League is a different matter. |

It would appear that the majority who have commented are unhappy with the board because the present team is stuttering a bit and the manager has yet to prove his mettle. Then there is the perennial complaint we have seemingly about strengthening the player pool for Europe, and the lack of enthusiasm from the board for paying for singular players of better quality versus paying pennies for multiple magic bean quality players. My bewilderment is that we hear our coaching staff and scouts being praised for their judgement and diligence by PL and the board(the finance and erstwhile footy experts), and similarly praised by the the coaching staff(possibly insincere but better qualified footy experts?),yet the board have been singularly unable to sanction the capture of replacements, either direct or prospective for Hooper and/or Wanyama. If the scouts are doing so well why have the board not had the balls to approve signing the fruits of their efforts? |

Hmmm, some people think we're a selling club. I thought we'd been a selling club all the way back to the days of trying punt Jimmy McGrory. |

I live in the real world so don't have massive expectations in relation to the signings we make. I understand the restrictive circumstances we operate in and I don't expect us to sign Messi et al. However, i just feel that despite the years in the CL and the massive transfer fees we have taken in as well as freeing up wages, the team just seems to be getting worse with each passing transfer window. As a supporter I certainly don't feel that we are a better team for the CL campaigns. Last season we played very poor football for pretty much the entire CL campaign, only scored in 2 of the 6 group games, lost 5 out of 6 and got our arse handed to us by Barcelona (which is excusable) and a very poor Milan side (less so). And this is compounded when you read stuff like this: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2554412/Celtic-spend-8m-summer-big-signing-boost-Neil-Lennons-Champions-League-hopes-says-Peter-Lawwell.html where PL is quoted as saying we could spend £8m on a player and will have 'substantial funds' to spend. We are never going to spend £8m on a single player (and neither do i think we should) but don't insult our intelligence by pretending we might. We are now at the situation where we are going into our most important games of the season weaker than we were last year. Last year we were weaker than the previous year and squeaked through a tie that we should have won comfortably. And eventually it is going to come home to roost and we are not going to get through one of these ties. if i was a betting man, i suspect that come the end of the transfer window we will have a variation on 'we tried to get a few things over the line but didnt quite manage it'. I feel the problem we have is that Lawell has far too much power now. I am convinced that Lawell was the biggest factor in Lenny leaving. I'll go back to my big Greek pal when he mentioned that Lennon's hands were tied in resigning him. Lennon wanted to keep Samaras, Lawell didn't want to pay the wages. I am not entirely convinced that Balde or Boerrigter where Lennon signings either. Ledley leaving I think was another strain in Lennon/Lawell relationship. I would think there will be a few disgruntled board members not overly impressed with Lawell. |

The Board will keep using this 'Model' - which seems to have become an ideological thing - because they don't have the same priorities as fans. If we make the group stages of the CL, that will be considered a success. Getting to the last 16 beyond our wildest expectations. If we lose against Legia, it'll be because we're a team in transition and the shortfall in revenue will be fixed by selling Forster and VVD. Either way, the bank balance looks healthy, we still win the league, and Peter Lawell can justify his salary. |
