The thick end of £20m has already been secured this week and they won't spend. It's an absolute disgrace
£20million! :ponder:

Not impressed at all with the signings so far. Lawell got another chance with the reinstatement on Friday, but so far it looks like we still won't spend. It's not good enough.

The Celtic board have never been adverse to a meaningless soundbyte. Like the 'we did everything we could' to sign Stephen Fletcher only for it to be revealed in later years they earmarked the money for a land deal instead. We are now collecting no mark cheap signings, frees and loans the way the huns did under McLeish. It's embarrassing.
The board are falling hook line and sinker for what's bring fed to them

We've invested over 30m in this squad - never mind those sold or left, forster, ledley, samaras, watt with brown injured

It's good enough to get to the cl

Even when they are face to face with reality after legia they still believe managing decline is the route to go till the hun get back

They will back PL come hell or high water ( although I'd expect some of board to do a runner if it gets to jock brown levels - god he looks like a genius now - at least he only gave us one blinker !

But PL is on shaky ground if the fans step up the lawwell gtf - he has driven the Delia choice from the start and it would be interesting to know exactly who put us down this road

Yet despite it being in our interest to have forster in goal for Maribor and despite FF desire to help the club he finds himself down the road and us being fed nonsense in the press

We've seen it before about how hard we tried but we are not trying for any quality

And the senior players are dismayed by the organisation to date

Things are a shambles on every front bar money coming in

And it's a shambles of PLs making

I'm annoyed with myself that I automatically renewed for this season.
Yup.

Highly doubt I'll be back next season if this continues.

£10m from selling Forster and adding up participation in the CL Play-off, guaranteed Europa League until Christmas and associated ticket sales makes up to the better part of £10m.

Really, the EL makes us that much? I was hoping there you had inside info on stokes and commons being sold for £10million.

When's the deadline for the Maribor game? If Tonev is the only signing in preparation for it  surely to feck the money from FF is enough to buy a effing striker no matter how much we're guaranteed from the CL/EL.

I see the CL pot has varied in the media from £10 - £20 million.

You're about £2m for the Champions League play-off and the Europa League market pool is worth somewhere from 1-2m (the Europa League has adopted a similar TV structure to the Champions League). You're probably looking at about £3m from ticket sales from 4 European home games, A million of two from ancillary benefits are you're looking at a decent sum. Fair enough there will be costs involved in this, but you're looking at decent money.

There's no excuse not to spend.

I take it the chance has been blown? I'm not into speculating to accumulate and all that pish but 1 loan, from villa reserves is pathetic.

Some interesting comments from Dan Petrescu on Romanian tv tonight

Lenny knew the score.

Can you imagine we somehow squeeze past Maribor and end up in the CL with the squad we'll have at this 23:59 tonight

Disgraceful

Tony Watt who had been nursing a thigh strain hence no pre season games ,was reassured by the manager he was a big part of his plans.

Young Watt received a call from his agent a couple of days later and informed Celtic had accepted a bid for him.

This is life as celtic manager under Lawwell , selling one of our most promising strikers while we have probably our worst strike force for years.

If had been the manager i would have walked and let him grub about looking for some other mug .

At a time of fantastic turnover we have our weakest team for years . you couldnt make it up.

Considering what he managed to do with about two bob and some kensitas club coupons with that team that humped the huns, if he baulked at what's on offer then we're truly effed.

Might not be financial, with the results of the last few years it fecking better not be.
Could just be the whole de facto DOF stuff.

Despite the bluster there was never the remotest prospect of us appointing anyone who had their own ideas

That, even in those circumstances, it still represented a move up for RD, is pretty depressing. In 2002 he'd have got the Hibs job or something.

Nothing against the guy but he's here because he's pliant. Maybe he thinks once his feet are under the table he can start to slowly strengthen his hand over the coming seasons. Well, the last guy was a bona fide supporters hero with a trophy-laden playing career behind him who took a team of projects to the CL knockouts after taking care of Barcelona, we sold the best of them to replace with even cheaper projects and within 18 months the board viewed him as the big problem that needed solved.

So if that is indeed Ronny's thinking....good luck with that mate.

When you are looking to sell something never say it's pish and/or lazy.

However, we are in decline and no doubt Ronnie is getting done like a kipper.

You'd have thought the board might have learned their lesson from watching us getting absolutely rag dolled out of Europe once already this season, obviously their thinking behind the phrase 'strengthen the team' means more along the lines of 'strengthen the balance books'

I realise we live in a very restricted financial environment but feck me sideways, if they want money, the Champions League group stages and fans pouring into the stadium they're going to have to spend some money on the actual team itself - you know, what the whole point of Celtic FOOTBALL Club is

I think Ronny is the Mark McGhee option. We had to go outside the country to do it and dress it up as some sort of managerial masterstroke, but given what's transpired this window, it's shaping up to be a disastrous sequence of decisions by those in charge of looking after the club.

Put it this way, Ronny will need to be an truly amazing manager to turn around this group of player, not least after he said they simply weren't good enough. Look where it got Hibs going into a play off.

I'd obviously like him to succeed, but if he does, it will be in spite of the 'support' that he's had from the board, not because of it.

If we go out against Maribor, then I don't think the manager will be the only one not going back to Parkhead.

Crowds would have tumbled after Legia. If Maribor knock us out after we failed to invest, then the crowds will drop off a cliff.
