I'd be more persuaded that BBC and Mark Daly in particular had made much more of the information that came out in court that RFC had accepted liability without dispute in March 2011 for the tax owed from 2001 iro the wee tax case. When his attention was specifically drawn to the court testimony he suggested The Offshore Game had covered it but in spite of asking them about DDs tax, the issue that RFC had gained the UEFA licence by deceit was not raised by him. The BBC have studiously avoided that issue ever since the TOG report. I'd not be surprised that even if the SFA Comp Off found that the UEFA licence was granted by deceit, they failed to cover it. When you compare what BBC Scotland has focussed on and what they have failed to address there is a strong case for lack of balance and if I were Celtic I'd be going to the BBC Trust to investigate. |

You'd be forgiven for thinking that you're being contrary for the sake of it. No one said that DD had a tenuous link to Celtic. That would just be foolish. The tenuous link was trying to drag CFC into a programme titled SCOTLAND'S Paradise Papers. Four case studies were shown. 1. A shopping centre based in Glasgow. 2. A oil company with HQ in Aberdeen. 3. Property developers and transaction in Edinburgh 4.An Irishman who used to own a Swiss based company avoiding Swiss tax. Spot the odd one out? Even when we talk about the sums avoided it had no place in the programme. $1m of potentially avoided Swiss tax. That's not even an annual bonus for a Swiss banker so why was it in a documentary designed to induce moral outrage from the Scottish viewer due to the actions of the rich and super rich? Others in this thread have answered that rhetorical question just fine. Edited by cautious dave, 8 Nov 2017, 01:41 PM.

This is a global story. The Guardian report two days ago listed Trump and Trudeau links. They mentioned Everton and Arsenal. In relation to elites running countries and the world for elites, people are being assassinated for asking tough questions (see the Maltese journalist and the Panama papers). Dermot Desmond is a big name at the biggest club in Scotland. It's mental to even think that this would be ignored. However, it would probably all blow over pretty sharpish but for writing a letter with the opening line 'Are you a Rangers supporter?' WTF was he thinking? He's already off the front page, for want of a better phrase, and I think he would have been off it a day earlier but for that line in his letter. I agree there is no equivalence to what he is supposed to have done and with deidco, who were warned by HMRC to stop with the EBTs. Such was their financial state, they chose to ignore them and we all know what happened next. As far as I've seen though, there hasn't been a flood of stories giving the two things legal or moral equivalence. But there are a lot of people furious at something that as far as I'm aware hasn't even happened. |

When Daly doorsteps any of the cheating huns THEN I might have some respect for him and the BBC until then not. A citizen of another country using tax advantage legal scheme in another country Really ?! He ignores all the other big dodgers but drags Celtic into it He is a hun worshiper and deflector of major proportions F of Daly and yer BBC which is misnamed , |

The DD story is miniscule compared to the rest, 1.3 M Swiss francs over 3 years ! They must have had to trawl through thousands of documents to get to that low level of money. The fact is the BBC wanted a splash that might get picked up by others or at least noticed by those they were partnered with on these stories. Daly tried doorstepping the other guys as well and got nothing out of any of them. Unless you can prove these things are illegal, they are really a non story, as it is hardly news that the super rich are using these schemes. It only becomes newsworthy if the individuals are passing themselves off as being squeaky clean, or the sums of money are huge, DD doesn’t come in to either category Poor show from the Beeb but nothing new there then! If DD has done anything illegal he should feel the full weight of the law, if not he’s no different from anyone who arranges things to suit themselves! |

Rich people dogding tax is scummy. Doesn't change that this was a clear attempt by BBC Scotland to try to "even up" the score wrt to tax avoidance between Celtic and Rangers. Tax dodging concerns me. The state broadcaster dragging Celtic's name into something that doens't concern Celtic (or even the UK exchequer) to appease orcs concerns me too. |

Daly doesn't need to "Doorstep" anyone - they are frequent visitors to the Studios of Ludge BBC , he only has to do an Eammon Andrews and step into Studio with a Big Red book and say "XX.EBT" Is this your Life ? Job Done !

Never have, and never will be, a fan of the Irish Carpetbagger, but.... So, DD puts a few 100k through Appleby & gets on the telly, but Jim McColl sells Weir Pumps for 700 million via the same company (& Switzerland, & the Cayman Isles) but doesn't get a mike stuck up his nose from Mr Daly. Not even a mention in the "Scottish" #ParadisePapers Edited by georgiesleftpeg, 8 Nov 2017, 06:13 PM.

Was wondering when that would show up. He was nearly right. For clarification:Clyde Pumps was formed in 2007 with the acquisition of Weir Pumps from the Weir Group in 2007 and warehoused by Clyde Blowers. Union Pump was acquired from Textron in 2008, which formed ClydeUnion Pumps. In December 2011 ClydeUnion Pumps was sold to SPX FLOW for £700million. The vendors named in the Share Purchase Agreement were Clyde Blowers Capital S. R.L. (registered in Luxembourg), SCF-VI Offshore L.P (registered in Grand Cayman), Appleby Nominees (Jersey) Limited - and the Management of the Company. As Daly was bleating on last night about the loss off Capital Gains Tax due to the proceeds of the sale of the St Enoch Centre being offshored, I’m sure a quick look at East Kilbride’s own Clyde Blowers PLC on the Companies House website will re-assure him that no such stunt was pulled and the full value of the sale appears in the UK acounts, and even if it didn't make these shores, the deal was perfectly legal and above board. However, it was quite a surprise to settle down to a programme about Appleby's Scottish Connections to find that such a huge deal involving, er, a Scottish Company and, um, Appleby, didn't even merit some scrutiny. Happy to have this post pulled if the mods don't want to risk it - but as you can see, the Purchase Agreement is in the Public Domain and the rest of the info is on Clyde Blowers' own Website. Barcabjoy has tweeted that New Oasis Asset Limuted ...the King family trust company tbat has already loaned money to Sevco and according to the most recent accounts is the provider of the £7.2mill needed between now and 2019...is registered in the British Virgin Isles .... But that isn't worthy of comment from BBC Scotland
