Completely separately, how effing far did Desmond have to walk to get into the ground? You'd think he'd have a chauffeur driven limo dropping him right off at the front door. Come on, he's just one of us dontcha know. Incidentally, in support of Her Majesty's position in all of this, me and Mrs BC have private pensions, which an IFA spreads across a number of worldwide funds. We haven't a clue where. We could be funding ISIS and drug cartels for all we know. Yes you could , and you'll also be getting tax relief at your top rate on the contributions ! As for Bono and his Lithuanian Shopping Mall ? WTF ? His tribute band is here in Tenerife along with Seanocelt on here (Tax Exile Tim) doing his U2 Tribute too - worth a look !

We can question individual or even corporate bbc motivations all day long but what the paradise papers clearly show is this world is full of already-rich people who think it's fine not to pay their taxes... it isn't fine, it's shameful (regardless of whether it can be cloaked in legality).
Wasn't ok when the huns did it to cheat their way to titles and isn't ok when DD does it to bolster his own bank balance.
If there's legitimate questions to ask of Dermot Desmond then lets have them asked. Whataboutery is a pathetic reaction. His connection with Celtic makes him a person of public interest. The point of the story is the shed a light on the lengths that the wealthy will go to avoid tax liabilities. If using an individual who is the major shareholder in the largest club in the country helps it make a story of greater interest to the public at large, by linking it to individuals whom they would already possess some knowledge of, then so be it. This issue is far larger than the Scottish media's disdain for Celtic, and it is petty and parochial to bring that argument in here.
So we focus on a non british tax payer and forget about all the british ones who have cost us a lot more? Strange way to make a point. In this example we are possibly talking about the swiss losing 1million, where we have individuals who must have cost close to half a billion staying out the press? Exactly. Plenty of native Scots tucked away in Monaco and Jersey and never had any column inches at all.

Irishman who lives in Ireland, pays tax in Ireland ( ), sets up Swiss Tax Scheme for Aircraft company he owns to lessen tax burden. Not really much to do with BBC Scotland, who currently employ at least two genuine tax dodgers. It was also pathetic the way they showed the whole story, but left it until the news recap to state that none of what DD was accused of was in any way illegal.
I'm sure he has a house in Ireland but I doubt very much that he's tax resident here. This isn't really much of a story if it's legal. There's dodgier stuff in DD's past than this perfectly legal tax avoidance. Ex tax non-dom of Gibraltar, I believe.
Has since followed his mucker, JP, to the Swiss Cantons
Woulda/shoulda gone meself, but was a coupla bob short in my (offshore) account

Ask the questions then. Doorstepping him outside the stadium on the night of our biggest game of the year is indeed a pathetic attempt to associate our club with the whole scandal. The BBC article says they sent the questions to him half a dozen times but he declined to answer.

Playing the devils advocate - If he isn't breaking any laws why should he be compelled to answer them? He shouldn't be compelled to answer them. They are more than entitled to keep on asking, though. If they didn't, they wouldn't be doing their job.

Many on here were lapping Daly up when he was looking into EBTs and Craig Whyte. Yet he has the cheek to look at Desmond and it's simply a conspiracy aimed at Celtic. It's a major story Nationwide with certain famous people, Desmond included.
There's no agenda here its not a major story in Scotland that an Irish citizen has avoided being taxed in Switzerland.
and there is an agenda
especially from an organisation that regularly employs UK tax dodgers and doesn't ever ask them about UK tax dodging.

It is a major story when that Irishman is the majority shareholder and powerbroker at the biggest football club in Scotland though.

Has anyone considered the possibility that it's actually embarrassing to have someone like DD associated with us? Especially given our founding premises?

Has anyone considered the possibility that it's actually embarrassing to have someone like DD associated with us? Especially given our founding premises? He's no better or worse than any plausible alternatives. Until the fans own the club (which I doubt will ever happen), we will be owned by rich guys who have become rich and stay rich by more or less dubious methods.
The problem is in society. The whole story reveals that this problem is absolutely rife among these people.

Who would be an appropriate person to buy shares in the club in your option? Is that the new rule? You can only criticise DD if you have a squeaky clean replacement lined up.
