It was only a season or 2 ago we were saying how we needed one or 2 quality players in to take our team to the next level, now look at it, its been totally dismantled. Ok I agree we would have lost 2 or 3 of the players for decent fees but Hooper, Ledley and Sammi, all indications were that they would have signed on for the same money or in Hoopers case moved up to be among the top earners at the club, which was highly understandable giving how much we relied on him for his goals. Every year the accounts are published, Lawell trumps out the line about all the money we make is re-invested in the the club. My arse, the playing squad has badly needed investment the past few years and very little has come. When it has been spent its been last minute effing around to get players in to keep the fans happy. We should be spending money in order to get into the CL each year, if it goes breests up then sell a player or 2. Right now we are not spending enough before these qualifiers, then dicking around with a few days to go. Nearly all our targets will have had offers and moved by then. |

We've got to strike the right balance between not overspending to get ourselves into financial problems and not underspending so the team isn't good enough to qualify for the CL group stages where the major money is and unfortunately our board are nowhere near getting the right balance and don't seem capable of striking the right balance.I think it is time for a change at board level because ultimately they are responsible for the decline of our team on the park. |

For me, the boards attitude is summed up in their sales pitch this year 'because'. Really bugging me. No actual tangible reason to buy your season ticket, merchandise etc apart from 'because' we always have. Not because they are producing a good footballing side, not because they are investing in the club to produce a side which is competitive and exciting, but 'because' we are the ' best fans in the world', 'because' we always have' blah blah blah. The entire sales pitch epitomises the clubs attitude in how it takes the fan base for granted. And now it is coming home to roost. Unfortunately. |

I have always been a supporter of the board and I am not prone to overreaction but this playing squad is in desperate need of investment and has been for some time. The only reason I can see for a lack of investment is the fact that we changed managers so suddenly and the new guy needed time but with the CL qualifiers looming that really wasn't an option. We are in really bad shape now but it can be salvaged if we strengthen the squad, qualify for the EL and win the SPL. Anything less would be an absolute disaster of a season. |

Given that every one of our directors is a successful businessman in his own right, it's pretty effing incredible that they running such a shambles at Celtic. Yes we're financially solvent, but there's nothing approximating growth or dynamism of any sort in 'the business', a state of affairs that they presumably wouldn't tolerate at their other companies. Time for a boardroom clearout, with Lawwell obviously the first to go. I'd love to see Desmond GTF as well as we all know he sets the tone for the way everything is run, but unless someone buys his shares off him he's guaranteed his place on the board. Get a new CEO in and restrict his role to that of CEO. Get a proper director of football in, not a jobs for the bhoys ex-Celt but someone who's done that role before and done it successfully at other clubs with a similar profile (one of the Dutch or Belgian clubs perhaps). Also, he's not on the board, but someone needs to get hold of John Park and tell him he's not at Hibs any more so he's not getting paid to identify shampooe players. Ideally I'd have him GTF as well and amalgamate his role with that of the DoF, who will hopefully be able to spot players who can actually do basic stuff like controlling a football, passing a football, and listening to the manager's instructions. |

I want Lawwell to get to eff as much as you but if Desmond just brings in a cheaper replacement on the same remit, where does that leave us? Time to turn on the whole board. |

Celtic are between a rock and a hard place. Domestically, there is not enough money in the pool to sustain a realistic challenge on Europe, without heavy reliance on the 'prize money' from the competition that we have to jump through hoops to even get to in the first instance. We could spend £70 million in a winter transfer window to bring in 'quality' players to get them settled and playing well in preparation for the July/August, hand out 6 months of commensurate wages for that quality, and still get fired out on our highly charged erses at the first hurdle, and there is no way in hell could we recoup the outlay. Simply, spending money you don't have is a recipe for disaster. The structure of the European Competitions is such that the wee countries have champions who are not guaranteed a place in the CL groups, and there's something very wrong with that set-up. A football club can do absolutely no better than be champions of their respective country and as such should be automatically included in the CL group stages. At the lower end of the scale, three CL group matches mean far more to Celtic and other clubs at our level, than they do to the heavy hitters who get obscene amounts of dosh handed to them by virtue of the fact that they are in a league that interests TV companies or are owned by some gazillionaire, oligarth or conglomerate who is looking for a hobby. The Scottish League is devalued to the point where the world see us as also rans now, and all the noise we make will not change that. In one of the first statements RD made, he vocalised what a lot of us have been saying for years, the level of the Scottish league is holding Celtic back. It is ridiculous that a side who reached the last 16 of the CL in one season, has to negotiate qualifiers and play-off the next season, having again won their own domestic championship. It has been mooted that for Celtic to grow in this era, we need to be getting into a league where there is access to higher earnings, well that isn't going to happen any time soon, so we have to live within the means we have. Which eventually gets me to the board; I don't believe for a minute that Peter Lawwell or Dermot Desmond or anybody else for that matter, gets up every morning and looks in the mirror and says to themselves 'I wonder how much I can rip the Celtic fans off for today'... I'm just not having that. For sure, I'm, like a lot of you out there, a bit disgruntled at times with some of the decisions taken and I'm sometimes unsure of the direction we're aiming, but I would not have those decisions to make for £1 million a year. When I think back to the early 90's especially, (for those of you who were there I'm sure you will concur), I would much rather be in the place we are at this time. I never thought, in 1994, that we would even see 2014, never mind be dominant in Scotland. I believe the problems we have at Celtic are more 'narrow band' at the moment, we have to be looking at bodies on the ground I believe, players and back room. It's OK for Ronny to be talking about 'improving the squad', and I'm all for that, but his job, along with John Collins, surely is to first of all improve the attitude and professionalism in the dressing room. There are not many who will disagree that in a head to head comparison, Celtic were far more qualified to progress than Warsaw, but the attitude over 2 games was ridiculously bad from those players, and the manager really needs to take a wee step back and look at himself as the culprit. Simply, there should have been absolutely no need for 'investment' to see off that challenge. It was a poor, poor show. Celtic are not a good cup side just now, haven't been for some time, that's the bottom line. Teams at all levels must look forward to drawing Celtic, because there is the prospect of a decent pay day and a better than even chance that at least half the Celtic team won't 'turn up'. Maybe the 'riddy' of getting papped into the EL qualifiers will be the jolt they need to buck their ideas up. Right now, I would bite your hand off for an EL final, and I can assure you if that happens, the hurt of Warsaw will fade, like it never existed! |

I love Celtic and spend a fortune every year going to watch them. But last night, I sat outside that Horseshoe Bar on Gorgie Rd and looked at my watch. There was still 25 mins to go and I thought to myself "What is the effing point? Why am I giving these bastards my money? They do not give a flying eff." You know that players will be sold to cover the CL shortfall. You know that they won't be replaced by the same quality. We're effing mugs to them. My mate said last night "It's like Lawwell has pulled the plug on us a few years ago and we're all standing watching us going down the drain." He's right. I'm no asking for us to go out and start spunking £20m, but I do want spending to improve the team. It's brutal and dire viewing with very little quality, if any. Lawwell GTF!! |

The early 90's was 20 years ago and if we'd have said the board is doing the best it can back then, we would not be in the position today to see the board do it all over again. When has a new manager been given one loan and a freebie who hasn't played for two seasons and told 'on you go'? It's never happened, stop backing the board. The team of two seasons ago funded a failing business side of the club, a chief executive should be held accountable for the fact ticket sales and everything that comes with it is down. He isn't. |

The campaign of deflection will begin in earnest today, and we can look forward to a " we have invested £35million in the team...... " style announcement very soon. Of course, this will singularly fail to address the money we've taken in in player sales in the same timescale, and the paucity of the replacements for those sold, but the headline figure will be bandied about as a contradiction to all the criticism. Wagons are being rounded up, and the corporate backlash is already under way. Anyone harbouring hopes of Lawwell being a victim of this had better think again. |
