Celtic Board completel;y running scared of the DR and The Sun

Terrified in fact
Plenty things can be thrown at our Board, but that is taking it a bit far. Scared of the Record and the Sun? Can't picture any member of our Board who've even heard of those rags.
Daily Mail then.

I see nothing wrong with the club's statement on the Lee Rigby stuff.

People need to understand that the club has to put thing Rigby business to bed asap. That means making a quick statement that just conveys what most of the support would agree with. Namely that this is appalling behaviour and has to be roundly condemned. On another thread Henry Clarkson is warning of what we will be up against once the next steps in the corruption scandal start to unfold. It appears to me that this is already happening. The support and GB need to be aware that those who wish us ill will use any and very opportunity to do us damage on and off the park. If CFC is to retain the high moral ground in its fight against the corruption in governance in Scottish football, it needs to be seen to be taking action against anything that might be levelled against the club and support.
The low life that sang the song deserve anything that comes their way for firstly singing such a disgusting song and then having the gross stupidity of recording themselves singing it!
When are they going to start taking action at things levelled at the club and support? Both on and off the park?

The issue is their silence on everything else, I'd have no issue with it either if they'd opened their fecking gubs re, well we've all seen the list numerous times now. ;)

Whether or not Celtic commented on the matters you'd have liked them to, this statement is grossly stupid and offends against the first rule of PR, which is not to give a bad news story fresh impetus. This has simply kicked it into the next news cycle (it's now leading BBC Scotland online news).

The guys singing the song appear to be barely-sentient creatures and they deserve what's coming to them. But if clubs are now expected to comment on the feral behaviour of half a dozen "fans" outside stadiums, the PR teams at every club in the U.K. are going to be very busy indeed.

Silly precedent they've set.

This particular incident isn't about PR, it's about doing the correct thing and that's what the club have done.

Not disagreeing with any of that but if they'd have commented on everything that's went before I'd hardly have raised an eyebrow to them commenting on this. Might not have agreed with it but it wouldn't have been seen as the media arse kissing it now is.

The media will do their damnedest to keep any bad news story re Celtic at the fore, nothing changed there.

There is clearly now a campaign to discredit all thinks Celtic in this country

We are now top dogs and the majority hate it we have to be smart

As it has been pointed out songs about Doyle burns stein and the lions have been put down to banter

They have stepped up their campaign after the huns got put out of europe to deflect on what is going on over there and at theSFA

It is time to wise up and stop giving them a stick to beat us with

We need to get back to what is important to address the cheating from the huns and the cover up with the powers at be

I'll be amazed if anything is issued by the club further on the subject. But I live in hope.

Word!

Discrediting our achievements, dismissing our grievances, sensationalising misdemeanours, unsettling players and irritating the manager: it's all in their armoury, and the closer we get to 10 - and the pursuit of justice - the worse it will become.

All the more reason for everyone to screw the nut. Fight hard and clever, all of us.

Two weeks now and not a whisper. I admire those of you who live in hope.

I expect Paddy Roberts will deliver the statement when holding aloft the CL trophy. Otherwise, can't see it happening.

5 or 6 pissed up fans singing a vile song outside of football stadia, just because they happened to be wearing Celtic tops doesn't mean the club should get involved. Especially when they are unable to condemn racism towards a Celtic player, objects being flung at more than 1 Celtic player at games at Ibrox and Windsor Park, new songs coming into the hun songbook about the Lisbon Lions a few weeks after it becoming public knowledge that Billy McNeill is suffering from dimentia and the ongoing child abuse and sectarian singing at every hun home and away game aimed at our club and it's supporters!

Just as effed off with the board now as I am with the Scottish media. A total farce. No way am I deflecting away from the song which I mentioned was vile but the board really should have stayed out of this!
all you have done in that post is deflect. sorry.

If Celtic had refused to comment, that would have been the story the MSM would have spun.

The board did the right thing -for once.

Why would we want to sign James McCarthy? We have enough midfielders for 3 teams as it stands

He'd be the only midfielder we'd have a song for once Armstrong goes.
