I find myself reading that name out loud in a Barry Fitzgerald accent

Livingston FC have been deducted five points and fined £10,000 after failing to pay tax on undeclared bonuses.

The West Lothian side admitted their guilt over three breaches of SPFL rules having failed to tell the league it had been in default of its tax obligations in relation to payments made to players in 2010/11.

Livingston were handed a registration embargo in August in relation to the case, which dates back over several years.

John McGlynn's men were already bottom of the league table following Saturday's 1-0 loss to Cowdenbeath. They will now sit on four points from their opening 14 games, eight points behind eighth place Alloa.

A statement from the SPFL read: "Livingston pleaded guilty to breaches of SPFL Rules E20, E22 and E29, having failed to advise the SPFL that it had been in default of its tax obligations in relation to payments made to players.

"This meant that Livingston had been able to register professional players in registration periods when it otherwise would not have been able to do so.

"As a result, the club were deducted five points in the SPFL Championship with immediate effect and were fined £10,000."

SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster commented: "The tax default and reporting rules are an integral part of maintaining a fair league competition."

Just the wee tax case alone they are guilty
The wee tax case £4m
The big tax case £50m
Non payment of page and NI in the CW era £14m
Mackenzie comments about rangers not knowing they had to inform the league about wages paid to offshore trusts is laughable
Remember the taxman bottom line is IGNORANCE IS NO EXCUSE

Spineless?! Right personally I believe that Rangers are dead gone over no longer exist, no call me I naive but that is what I believe.

So I would rather out board focussed on improving our club, buying players to improve our club compete in the champions league.

If your biggest gripe is that our board is not picking over the dead carcass of an non-identity,then you lived in blessed times.
So because we're currently better than what plays out of Ibrox, we should just shut up, sit back, and let the system roll on that is doing everything it can to further their ends at the expense of the ends of everyone else?

I'm mystified that some Celtic fans see this as remotely OK. what fun is playing a bent game, to feel victimhood? it's not the 1950s any more ffs.

Greatest film ever made ? :ponder: Each to their own, I suppose.

IIRC, the Sean Thornton character was trying to bury the past.

Wouldn't flag day be a great time for PL to grab the mike and give it both barrels to the crooks in attendance about the clubs next step.

Yeah I know.... would be class though.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
i was there in the early 90s. i was a st holder and went to most away games.

i also supported the celts for change / sack the board campaign that eventually paid off when
fergus took over so i don't need a history lesson
Apologies if it came over as if I was trying to impart a history lesson, that was never my aim, and apologies again.

Like you I was home and away, including our brief excursions into Europe, through those years.

When I compare the board back then, to where we are now it truly is night and day.

I honestly couldn't care less what they do with their old titles as for me they will always be tainted regardless of the findings of any independent enquiry, but appreciate others will have a different view.
In my opinion, it's got feck all to do with personal opinion.
It has everything to do with that the sport in scotland recognises as fact.
At present, it seems that the SFA/SPFL, and by extension, the clubs as a whole, don't want to recognise the fact that RFC IL not only broke registration rules, but did so in the hope of utilising a scheme that was meant to be a means of tax avoidance.
Ie SFA rules and regs don't matter a jot as long as a (or maybe it's just one) club can reduce their costs, or it is expedient to do so.

It seems that the SFA/SPFL has little issue with this - and not only that, seems to have colluded to make sure that other more stringent repercussions aren't applied in light of the SC verdict which just rubberstamped everything we already knew.
Myself and others like me may well share the view that these DOS/EBT years "honours" are tainted, and thus not worth counting - but currently the SFA/SPFL don't appear to want to recognise this.
It's essential for the game, that this is recognised - otherwise going forward, there will always be this dark cloud that hangs over the scottish game.
RFC fans and the media will forever be peddling the "going for 55" or whatever meme whilst everyone else doesn't recognise this statement as being based in truth, as 1) RFC went kaput, so can't add to their titles and 2) even if Sevco is deemed to be RFC, that title count is incorrect as there's a fair number of titles achieved whilst paying players via a tax-free under-the-table scheme.

At present the scottish game hasn't really recognised the scale of this issue - to the extent that the unpaid RFC penalty of 250k for registration breaches is the only official repercussion of RFC's actions in this EBT period.
Imho, the honours "won" should be removed from RFC for those years in question.
They were utilising a scheme which wasn't open to anyone else to remunerate players.
They had to break SFA rules in order to use this scheme effectively.
And they were doing in for a decade or so.
It's ridiculous.

They are trotting out all kinds of legal reasons why they are taking this position while completely ignoring the moral and ethical implications of what they and the huns did.

If anything, THAT'S where they should be held to account. They want this to be turned in a legal whataboutery in much the same way that the huns have done with their club/company BS. It gets slowed, diverted and muddied over time.

This is a question of the integrity of the game. Eventually HMRC did the huns for what they intended rather than what they did. We need to pursue this line.

Its the scale of the cheating that gets me. 10 bloody years of incorrect player registration covered up as imperfect. Its an insult to even the dumbest level of hun that.

For what ? Club statement?

That would make sense actually. No point in doing it before the game as all focus needs to be on that.
