The company I work for E-SPORTS team recently won a major competition in the US and banked the company a cool half a million dollars prize money.

It's huge in the US and is now spreading to Europe. Madison Square Gardens sells out in minutes for gaming tournaments and a lot of the top teams have tens of millions of followers. There is a lot of money to be made and a fair few European Football teams are getting in on the act.

I do find it weird people religiously watching others around the world playing games online but it is huge now and getting bigger.
I can think of nothing I'd be LESS likely to watch. Utterly bonkers.

IMHO, of course.
I have never understood why millions of people watch poker on TV. I would rather walk the dog (and I don't even own a dog).

Wtf is it?

Genuinely.
Online gaming with leagues all over the world. We got a training session on it a few months back and the money that is involved is jaw dropping and some play for at least 10 hours a day, if not more. Dedicated gaming channels, the works. Groupies and allsorts

Not my cup of Tea but it is taking off big time and some of the top Football teams are now getting in on the gig.
So are you playing the game, such as FIFA, or watching other people play the game?

E-sports are huge and the money and sponsorship deals for successful players and teams is unreal. And while players and teams do compete head to head at events and online tournaments there is a large spectator audience both in person and via online streaming.
And for people interested in such things I don't see the difference with them turning up to watch other people play the game, isn't that what we do at Celtic Park?

aye but we're watching real players on a real pitch.
watching 2 'gamers' playing against each other on fifa is slightly different.

you can't shout abuse at anyone for two good reasons.

one, it's a video game and
two, there's no ref

I don't mean Fifa exclusively or even sports games in general as I believe first person shooters are the biggest draw. Even though esoorts are video games the people playing them still have to outthink and out manouvere one another in real time. Teams will have tactics and strategies that will change depending on the objective and the opposition. Load outs and squad rotation also have to be dynamic.

R.e Fifa, I took my lad and nephew to a gaming convention last year and there was a group of Fifa players there called The Sidemen (I think) and these guys were adored by their fans in the same way our support adores our players. People queued up for a chance to get an autograph and photo with these guys and spent tons of money on merchandise. The Minecraft gamers were even more popular which I found strange as the game has no built in versus mode or competition so the players have to invent their own in game contests and rules. The audience watching popular UK based Minecraft players gaming live were cheering and clapping at certain events during the short match ups and the kids there were absolutely engrossed. I wish my lad would watch the Celtic game as intently as he watched some of these computer game match ups. Different generations I suppose.

Never heard of it either. Have no interest in at all now that I have.

Paying to watch someone else play a computer game ?

Nah.

EA sports is just a stepping stone. I wouldnt be interested in it but think what it could lead to.

Soon enough you'll be able the step into the game and participate. It won't matter that you're 20 stone and piss into a bag; you'll be cruyff turning past Ronaldo like you've been doing it all your life.

This won't be restricted to sports. You'll be able to step into whatever fantasy you like. Imagine stepping back into the wild west to shoot cowboys and pump hookers; what could possibly go wrong?? I welcome our cyber overlords.

Nothing is ever going to happen with resolution 12. Celtic have no interest in pursuing it.

Not sure how the computer game thing started or its relevance to Celtic. Just pointing out that in my opinion Celtic will do nothing except offer lip service to resolution 12.

I doubt even the large majority of the Celtic support have any real appetite to pursue it.

Maybes aye, maybes naw. My point was that connected, informed people have been posting updates recently on the subject in this thread, that's the real reason most folk check it out.

Spot on , I check it regularly when I see new posts have been added, but I'm sick of all this tripe being continually fed on the site, get it back to what the intended purpose was if that means zero updates so be it.

Remember the bold Phil Mac spoke of indirectly presenting DD with a dossier that spelled out exactly WTF the huns and their SFA brethren got up to prior to liquidation and since? And that - somehow - he (Phil) subsequently learned that DD was agog at the info therein; was sorely unimpressed at Lawwell/The Board for not accurately appraising him of the full story, and demanded it be taken seriously?

Can't remember if this was before or in the wake of the Cup semi defeat, and DD's alleged resolve to bury the huns after encountering their toerag directors. This ringing any bells? :ponder:

It's a thread set up specifically to discuss the Celtic board, not exclusively resolution 12. In actuality, that probably doesn't belong in the board thread.

Res 12 does not belong here in this thread ? Where then? or would you rather it was just binned ?

The board have no interest in it so yeah, the board thread probably doesn't seem the best home for it . The supporters thread would be more apt.
