I don't really believe the Jozo money would have been used to strengthen the squad. He was simply one of the few who could re-coup some money to pay the diddies we can't offload.

I honestly don’t know how to feel after yesterday.

The board has exceeded all my expectations in getting Rodgers and players like Sinclair and Toure.

We needed more options up front and we brought in Dembele, we needed a right back and we have brought one in. Most people agreed that Gordon either needed dropped or better competition and we’ve done that.
The glaring obvious was the lack of quality in central midfield and that is the only let down after yesterday in not addressing that.

If the board (Lawwell) felt that this CL group was beyond us (which it is) and decided to keep funds for future then it extremely short sited. Roberts as it stands won’t be here next season, Toure might not want the option of a 2nd year, Bitton I feel would jump at the chance of a move if the right one came along. So we’ve got a bit of work to do next summer already not including the central midfield that needed added to now never mind next season.

We’ll be going into the qualifiers again next season needing a lot of work done to the team, unless we can do work in January but if we are out of Europe at Christmas and looking strong in the league at that point will the board want to make decent investment in January?

One of the best summers we have had in terms of manager and players brought in and it still isn’t good enough.

We have the best manager we could have hoped to attract and who is making a positive contribution to the club, meeting his early objectives.

We should be trying out best to back him to the hilt and when it comes to promises regarding investment and transfer budgets not renege on them or use a sleight of hand.

Will Rodgers think that he's got the full backing he was promised? Only he will really know that. If he does, then it's all well and good. If he doesn't, then we'll be back to experiments in a couple of years.

Rodgers took a chance in coming to Scottish football. He wanted someone in the middle of the park as they lynchpin to how he wants his team to play. That person never arrived. He now has to work a bit of magic with someone already on the books, but his job has become harder when he's about to face some of his toughest tests in football.

We should be making plans for next summer now. Our scouts should be working overtime to identify players that we can sign in January, including any that we can sign on pre-contracts at that time. As you say, we'll have Roberts and probably Toure to replace in addition to the current need for a midfielder and replacements for anyone else who might be on the move next year.

Even if we just make one good signing in January it'll make a big difference when the next CL qualification games come around.

Running about last minute then moaning about lack of value is an utter scam.

We are stronger yes but we never do as well as we could. Also Rodgers is out biggest success, he was DD man not Lawwells.
The sharp suited man has swapped his suit for a kappa trackie.

Rodgers should have told him the huns were interested in McCarthy. He'd have been at CP pronto.

Everything else aside, there is just something instantly unlikable about Lawwell's coupon.

Let's be realistic, what difference will a £5m player make to our CL hopes? We might only get slightly embarrassed instead of completely embarrassed? We will finish with - 4GD instead of - 7GD?
We have next to no chance of getting out of this group and spending multi millions isn't going to be a good business move.

I believe we are strong enough to achieve the treble. Why would the board needlessly splash cash to achieve domestic successful which is practically guaranteed?

Has anyone considered that we are keeping the dough for next summer to regroup from the losses of Toure and Roberts?

Central midfield is the glaring deficiency in our squad but it's also an expensive position to recruit for. Look at an average player like Jeff Hendrick going for £10m.

There was no point thrown money at it if we couldn't get the right player in. Especially given the flying start we've made - we're comfortably the best team in Scotland and the worst team in our CL group and no midfield signing was changing either of those situations.

We have cash to burn and can wait until January if we really need to. Yesterday doesn't take away from the brilliant business we've done on the whole this summer.

We have 13 midfielders in the first team squad. Only half of which will make any sort of positive contribution. A bad deal is not getting shot of any of them. It seems it wasn't only the rest of the world who were asking too much for their players.

I do agree that lack of outgoings was pretty disappointing yesterday.

Rodgers took a chance in coming to Scottish football. He wanted someone in the middle of the park as they lynchpin to how he wants his team to play. That person never arrived. He now has to work a bit of magic with someone already on the books, but his job has become harder when he's about to face some of his toughest tests in football.

I understand we need a midfielder, and it would unquestionably improve us, but Rodgers standing in the game will not be determined by what he achieves or fails to achieve against Barcelona or Man City. He'll have known that the CL would throw up teams like this that would be favourites to skelp us. Neil Lennon achieved a miracle in beating Barcelona and look where it got him.
Next year will be the year we really start to enjoy Rodger's influence, and by this time next season, I expect us to be watching a radically different midfield.

That's assuming Rodgers will be here next season...
