If Stefan has gone I make that 9 first team players gone from the first team squad:

Scepovic, Boerrigter, Cole, Kazim, Mulgrew, Fisher, SJ, Stokes, Allan ( loan )

With 6 coming in:

Ajer, Dembele, Toure, Sinclair, de Vries, Henderson ( back from loan )

From a transfer fee point of view we will be roughly break even.

From a salary point of view I would imagine.we will be no worse than break even, the cost of the new management team though may have added £2m to the cost relative to previous team.

Effectively by rearranging the budget we are in a far better position.

With a few more outward bounds possible, I would hope that we can afford to add £8m or so to the wage bill and - as long as any transfer fees are for players in their early to mid 20s - invest around £5-10m in transfers. With the new TV money in the EPL underpinning transfer values for the next 4-5 years the only risk is in Brendan buying badly, his record indicates that he more than likely won't.

This would possibly mean using credit facilities more but as we have guaranteed payments coming there is almost zero risk. If we don't use these facilities if required then it is pretty pointless having the facilities as there is not a better time to use them unless they are only for emergencies.

This window and next will determine whether or not we qualify next season for another £35m haul (inc qualifiers) next year and up our negotiation position for the ICC and all sponsorship deals.

We got lucky this year due to bad forward planning, the question is will we overload the risk / reward path with conservative thinking again in a growing market.

Never has there been a better time to invest.
i would say none on those 9 players were first teamers

They were taking up "first team squad" salaries was the point.

Moving them out allows us to spend those wages on new players without increasing the budget.

Reportedly £2m in for Johansen now, no doubt with a sell-on clause.

The final week of this transfer window is gonna be telling.

Remember everyone posting over the past 2 summer transfer windows that bringing someone decent in i.e. a first team player who would improve the team would depend on us qualifying for the CL. When we didn't hey ho the purse strings weren't loosened. This year we have qualified and the money we get is way up on what we got the last time we qualified (new TV deal) And where are we with 3 days to go? £2 million up and the first team squad at minus 1!

Still time to get someone in (or more than one) but my prediction in an earlier post still looks good - a last day loan signing who won't be a regular starter. Really looking forward to next year's financial results. Highest ever turnover and highest ever annual profit with SPLOB rewarded accordingly.

let's hope that the last of the incoming transfer's are of such high-stakes that the deals (out of necessity) are going to the wire.
otherwise...

It is a terrifying thought that McGregor might be starting for us in The Champions League. Decent enough squad player but ffs we needed to go out and get better.

Lawell knew we had qualified last week. He had more than a week to go out and get in a fecking cm. If he had been reluctant before he had to realize his manager secured him champions league football with basically the same squad who had wet themselves 2 years in a row.

It really is time for Lawell to go. He continually repeats the same mistakes over and over again. He then comes out with the same pish again and again.

No movement on this thread for a while and found it hiding away on the 2nd page ....thought it best to refresh it in anticipation of the kicking the board will so richly deserve if, as seems likely, no further additions are made to the squad.

In the last two windows, we've signed Roberts, Sviatchenko, Kolo, Dembele, Sinclair, De Vries, Gamboa and a prospect in Ajer; got rid of some deadwood and a dud manager; and brought in a real (and expensive) manager.

If we don't sign a central midfielder, it will be mildly disappointing but all things considered it's been a decent couple of windows.

hailhailceltic posted that BR wanted 2 new players in today and Lawwell failed to deliver. Fecked me off if true.

He was pissing about for weeks with the Sinclair transfer too.

Been a decent window but could have been much better if not for PL.

The board (not just Lawwell) got us a manager I think we're all massively happy with on 10 times the money his predecessor was.

We've signed some genuine quality this window and are playing like a different team.

My pitchfork can collect dust for the time being.

Think back to where we were only a few short months ago. Fast forward to the present and consider where we are now. Better manager, better team, back in the Champions League. Things have done a u-turn.

Apologies, my natural reaction is to treat your posts with contempt and derision.

Having read it back it just seems that you're trolling and full of shampooe.

Yes, because pointing out the healthy state of affairs right now is reeling them in left, right and centre. Back in the net.

No-one on here knows a thing about what did or didn't happen behind the scenes today.

Rodgers next press conference will be interesting though.
