20th May - Celtic appoint Brendan Rodgers to critical acclaim, which leads to season ticket sales galore

21st July - Celtic have signed a grand total of 1 player, for around £0.5m

I have to admire their chutzpah :worthy:

Someone joked about this when Rogers was appointed. Now it's actually happened :nono:

have to agree

I am sure around the 1st leg Brendan was quoted as saying he was expecting to see new signings on board before the 2nd leg

I am definitely sure he said he was very hopeful signings would be made before the deadline tonight

It was a bold move by the board to appoint someone commanding the salary Brendan would be on

The faith was matched by the support adding on around 10k worth of season books compared to last season

The board have now given the middle finger to the support by not backing the manager to get us to the champs league group stages

It now seems the board are content to play russian roulette on our hopes to proceed to the next qualifying round

If we fail to navigate this round heads on the board will have to roll - absolute disgrace they have put the new manager in this predicament by their failure to back him despite him saying he wanted the signing in place before the deadline tonight :nono:

It won't shock me if Rodgers walks this weekend. He must be very angry and wondering if he has made a huge mistake and if getting gobbled in europe will destroy his reputation

It would shock me if he goes this weekend.

He will at least be very frustrated and maybe he's angry. However it won't quit so soon after taking the job.

It wouldn't shock me if he does a Wim The Tim and goes one day after securing our 6 in a row.

If Lawwell has fecked him over he must speak out. His ability to do the job, and his standing with the fans and players, is at risk if any such crap isn't dealt with immediately.

Said before I find it near inconcievable he would not have spoken with his pal Lenny about the job. I was annoyed Lenny didn't spill the beans on his leaving; a golden handcuff deal saw to that, but he would surely have told it like it was in private. BR can least afford to be the latest Celtic manager hung out to dry by Lawwell's duplicity. I remember MON publicly berating his Leicester board for broken spending promises, they issued a stuffy statement in return to save face, but conceded to a popular manager who had the fans in his pocket. Brendan has popular support which would rocket if he were to call shenanigans.

I only renewed my ST because his appointment suggested an end to the unecessary austerity that had drained the pleasure of watching Celtic; and driven hope, ambition and expectation into the dirt. I'm not alone, and would back Brendan 100% if he speaks out.

EDIT: above is worst case scenario; Brendan might well have agreed to nominal spend during first 2 qualifiers, with the promise of real money to come. But i doubt it...

Absolute nonsensical not buying at least 2 players for this next round but sadly not surprising.

If this "strategy" backfires its time something was done. Time for the associations to speak out. Its not only gambling with the here and now. Its risking us losing our place in the so called easy side. Surely the thick bastards can see that. In years to come the group stages will simply be nostalgia for us. Something to look back on and think remember the time we used to play in the CL.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deepit's only pocket change to a billionaire line :ffs:

I know someone who bought £5k worth of those shares, and reckons that with all the dividends and guaranteed values at the end of the share offers life, they made around 20% - 25% on their money!

Dastardly bought (from memory) around £4m worth (his 'pals', Eddie Jordan and the like) pitched in with around £6m worth from memory.

That's around a £2m - £2.5m return, on those figures.

With the added bonus that it gave our pocket-change squillionaire a controlling interest over our shareholding, without having to stump up the money to all the smaller shareholders, thereby circumventing corporate law in one move, whilst pocketing some loose change
Oh, I see.
So the fact that Desmond managed to get over the threshold to control the voting of the board, without having to offer a price for all of the small shareholders stock, was purely incidental to all of this?
He doesn't control the voting of the board himself. He is, though, a director and the largest single shareholder, which is different.

He has been the single biggest investor in the club since Fergus came in and he has become the majority shareholder precisely because he has put more money into the club than anyone else (and also because he underwrote the sale of Fergus' shares).

So, regardless of what you consider "purely incidental", my point is that he hasn't "circumvented corporate law" at all. He has invested in share issues, which means he has put money directly into the club.

There are rules about having to offer a price for small shareholders' stock.

Pedantics/Semantics :)

The Irish/Gibralterean/Swiss carpetbagger, par excellence, controls the voting majority on the AIM listed board, without being the majority shareholder (which would have resulted in him having to offer to buy all of the shares, at a set price).

He then sits back and lets Splob, the human shield, be obscenely remunerated for being his go-fer.

A shambles; from the Cantons, to the boardroom, to the plasic pitches of the Imps.

Big named manager that's spent 500k in how many weeks, money doesn't automatically buy you success but even Rodgers can see we are lacking.

Astana was always going to be difficult, the lack of signings just ramped that up a few notches.

I just can't fathom that this is a deliberate policy decision, it just doesn't make sense. It's the f*cking definition of insanity FFS! Repeating the same actions over and over and expecting different results.

There HAS to be something more to it.

Couldn't have predicted that.

One thing we know about Celtic under the current regime is that they hang the manager out to dry. I expect one day we'll see a manager tell them to ram it before the season starts.

Absolutely you're not alone. I've been disenchanted for years now with our bargain basement approach but excited that the signing of Rodgers heralded a new approach. The signs aren't good.

There's no gamble for them. They have little interest in the football side and couldn't care less what the fans want. Balance sheets are their focus.

They're probably throwing away £25m +

Season ticket sales are up, BR merchandise will probably sell well, Sevco are in the league and we've managed a net reduction in the size and costs of the playing squad. The £25m would be nice of course, but we don't need it so why bother?
