To think he was called the 'sharp suited man' by some at one point. Cringeworthy
To be fair he was doing a great job back then.
Was he ?

We got a manager Strachan on the back of a recommendation by Eddie Jordan.
Pretty sure there would have been other considerations taken into account before offering WGS the job, not just Eddie Jordan's say so.

Lawwell might have signed the documents but it was Martin O'Neill reigniting the club's international profile by taking us to Seville that secured the Nike deal. Sponsors want to get involved with clubs that win things and win things a lot; they're not interested in teaming up with clubs that are 'well run' as businesses but rubbish at football.

At what point does Dermond Desmond's sense of shame kick in and make him realise that he might not be ideally suited to running a soccerball business as a hobby? Apparently there a some terrific golf apps on the market these days.

Then I realised that if DD had a sense of shame, he probably wouldn't be the raffish oligarch we all know and love.

Board will be hoping to ride this out to summer and replace Deila then. To be perfectly honest I don't know which is the best strategy. Getting rid of him if we're only having an interim or keeping him on til league is over. Either course looks dangerous as the players arent responding to anything.

The only way to push the boards hand is to boo them. It had to be loud & consistent. If fans boo team and manager it'll be uncomfortable for the board but one which they'll ride out. If you're singing the board members own names the need to act becomes that bit more urgent

That banner but is good but needs to be the size of the flags we've got in place of supporters in the Lisbon Lion stand upper.

I would also be in favour of a walk of or something, as much as I hate missing games. Maybe only show up for the second half and give Lawwell dogs abuse for the remaining 45 or something. eff knows. Something anyway. They seem far too comfy.

Why wait as it only lessens the new mans time to prepare us for the CL qualifiers? I take it they think it would be bad PR to punt a guy who is on the verge of winning a title and might backfire on them when trying to bring someone in.

This is the bit which is most frustrating. We had such a great season in 2012 getting to the last 16 of the CL and everyone was on a high. The board were rubbing their hands with glee at the increased prize money and then the transfer income from Wanyama, Foster et al. What is unforgiveable is the failure to reinvest with quality to get us to qualify for the CL group stage again and we would have earned more money in the long run, and kept Lenny on too. What a wasted opportunity – let’s face it, the standard in Europe outwith the big leagues is not great so it was more than achievable. This penny pinching board have gone with the false economy of project manager, loan players and low quality signings. A footballing and commercial failure not to mention the cowardice at dealing with res 12 and contempt shown to the fans. New board and manager required please.

So you think being badly run but being good at football is more important?

It's better to be badly run as a club who has a great manager than it is to be a very well run club with a rubbish manager.

Unfortunately right now we are a poorly run club with a clueless lame duck manager.

A £1m bonus affords one the option of buying some extremely sharp suits, regardless of how useless the wearer this is at their job while wearing them :i_say:

As for the background to Desmond electing to plump for me as Martin’s replacement, all I know is that it was partly due to the recommendation of Eddie Jordan

He wasn't. The non-signing of Fletcher for a few hundred grand was the writing on the wall.
