Why is Dafabet becoming a moral issue?

There's been a Ladbrokes inside the Jock Stein Stand for years. Its not much different.
I'm struggling to see why it would be a moral issue at al

Sort of is though, isn't it. It's how these corporate tie-ins creep in. You accepted this previous thing so a bit more is just the same...rinse and repeat.

No really. One is facilitating betting whereas having them as sponsor is just their advertising. Surely people should be more annoyed at having a bookies inside the stadium than across the top/sidelines?

We've been sponsored by alcohol brands for over 10 years. We're past morals I think.

I'm intrigued by the morals of sponsorship argument. I don't mind us being sponsored by a company that is legally operating under UK law. I might not like that company or its product but that's a different matter.

Drawing a line in the sand on a moral stance wont be easy. Should only companies that are deemed (by whom?) to operate responsibly be considered. Companies whose products are addictive (drink, gambling, soft drinks, coffee, etc) be excluded? Should only companies that are open only to adults be excluded due to the influence on children?

I can drink and gamble at Celtic Park, buy junk food and sugary drinks for my kids, so why not have one of these companies as sponsors? I find it difficult to get my head round that.

Well it's personal choice which you think is worse but having one doesn't necessarily mean the other is somehow then just as acceptable.

I mean we've got bans on advertising certain things at certain times so children are less likely to see them. They're going to be exposed elsewhere but it probably helps in a small way. This is our club so why not try to be a bit more community-minded and a club like no other (don't worry, I'm cringing just as much as you are) and try to do stuff we might think is actually about more than maximising revenue. I get the argument that it would feel extra ridiculous when other teams beat us by being sponsored by Russian Mafia conglomerate and we've got Mary's Meals on our shirts but we obviously draw lines in certain places so why not here? I know we've got the next Ciftci or Bangura to fund and that.

I don't want to make out I'm a holy willie or anything, anyone on here who knows me knows I'm an utterly permissive degenerate when it comes to drinking and gambling but it's different when it comes to the jerseys imo.

None of this elite, Super League, top 20 pi$h will matter to me anyway. They can keep their rancid money-grabbing ideas and stick them where the sun don't shine. Football's going to hell in a handcart and I can't wait.

I watch very, very little of both the EPL and the CL as it's sold it's soul. The ego-maniacs that are involved and the mediocre players that lift eye-watering amounts of money do nothing to excite me. Highly paid interchangeable mercenaries who flit between clubs depending on who pays most? It's just plain boring. No-one has any affiliation to these people. I find it impossible to warm to them.

Watching Celtic, or football in general, is a way for me to catch up wi' friends and enjoy a wee day out and have a couple o' beers. What we've seen at Anfield recently sums up what the average fan thinks. Hopefully there'll be a fan-backlash where some sort of normality will resume.

I'll always support Celtic wherever they play. To be as far away from 'the top table' would suit me fine.
i dont remember posting this!

It's the announcer giving out odds on the next goalscorer during half-time that annoys me.

Not Sectarianism. They don't want to risk alienating half the population.

There are big brands involved eg Motorola at motherwell but like everyone else they'll be paying a pittance.
it will be interesting to see if Douglas Park suffers a down turn since he became so prominent at Sevco. Historically, sponsoring only one of the Glasgow teams was the kiss of death ( McEwans Lager anyone?), but that ship has sailed and we have distance between us now.
Our deal with Dafabet might raise a few moral issues, but commercially it looks like a winner on all fronts.
We are still using Parks of Hamilton for the team bus... :nono:

If we were to continue to go down the drinks route - we could do worse than explore a link with Fosters - they were founded in 1888 and there should be PR and Marketing opportunities in a hook-up. Not sure if we've ever explored the link tbh.

Fosters is also pish.

A perfect fit for present day Celtic.

If the Stephen Fletcher debacle in 2009, doesn't tell us enough about Lawwell's mindset, then maybe the Markus Henriksen story should remind us about the penny pinching that our CEO is renowned for and IS holding us back.

Back in 2012, we were keen on him as a replacement for Ki Seung Yeung. The transfer fee wanted was £1.75M by Rosenberg for a guy aged 20 and who was in the Norwegian national team squad.

However Pete wouldn't go beyond £1.4M. AZ did decide to meet the asking price.

It would appear that Henriksen is likely to leave AZ this summer for around 6M Euros and is a stand out this season as he is the Dutch club's main playmaker. They would probably get more but Henriksen will be going into the last year of his contract. His likely destination would appear to be Napoli.

Bearing in mind, this is a CEO who walked away from Olivier Giroud over a difference in wages of £2K a week and promptly spent the money on Rasmussen. And to think he gets a £500K bonus guaranteed every year.
