Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
CEOs are asked all the time to manage a comparative disadvantage.

In absolute terms the business may get worse but their job is to limit the damage until the strategic landscape changes.

We can't blame anyone at Celtic for the EPL TV money giving Bournemouth more financial clout than Celtic.

Aspiration can drive ambition but realism has to be the starting point when setting a CEOs objectives. DD sets those objectives not PL, PL has in DD eyes met them as evidenced by his remuneration.
How's the 'strategic landscape' going to change?
That is where the creativity that Idylwild refers to comes into it.

That creativity I think must come from the administration and regulatory side.

I think financially and football wise there are lots of avenues that are closed to us due to regulation closing down our market space.

We can talk about implementing an exciting football philosophy and better coaching at Lennoxtown (as we have for 10 years) however I think we would have to get lucky in finding a figurehead with the capability to implement a strategy and culture that helps us swim against a £60m a year current who also has the loyalty not to jump ship as soon as they are gaining traction.

Any strategy that depends on that amount of luck isn't really a strategy it is probably closer to a wish than it is a strategy.

Other people may disagree however I can't see us doing much better than our last 5 year batting average on player development, recruitment and style. I'm an aggressive optimist by nature but I can't see a way out of this malaise that does not involve a major change in UEFA policy.

If this conclusion is correct the choice is to accept the status quo or to keep pushing on the closed door of the EPL or a European League.

I'm interested in other reccomendations following that conclusion. I certainly wouldn't criticise anyone who thinks that finding the right coaching system is the answer but I think it is more of a pipe dream than the EPL due to the strategic inability to hold on to any talented coaches for the length of time required.

What other strategy could we pursue?

Losing to Malmo, Legia, Maribor, Sion, Happoel Tel Aviv, Braga, Utrecht has got sweet FA to do with the EPL and Sky but everything to do with the managers we appoint and the shambolic nature of PL's transfer dealings during windows.

It was PL who chose to hire inexperienced managers on a quarter of the salary he earns. It is PL's strategy that seems to see major rebuilding work required each summer and just when when we finally think were getting somewhere we fail miserably to push on.

It is crap administration atht sees us with just Griffiths and Ciftci up front. It is a failure to do deals early that has seen our likely defensive pairing hardly ever play together (allied with injuries).

Waiting until the final week and then scrabbling in the transfer bargain basement is economic stupidity and seen us losing money hand over fist on the likes of Bangura, Pukki, Scepovic, etc.

and all old.
the only thing the board do to change the above narrative each season, is to help add another less funded clubs name to their list of failure.
what can/will they do to change this, when they are giving out bonuses for being successful?

What they can do ?

Appoint managers who are not wet behind the ears for a start.

Secondly go out and get a decent striker or accommodate decent ones who are already here (see a certain G Hooper)

Do not envisage that everyone we sign should be young so we can sell them on for more when signing experience does at times have its benefits.

At least he had the decency to keep it under a million...

And he took a pay cut. A great example in these austere times

Could next season be the first time Peter fails to trigger his bonus payment?

Having strangled the golden goose then booted it in the baws for good measure with the sale of the final golden egg of Van Dijk, and have now taken the club to a position where it seems almost impossible we're going to qualify for the Champions League anytime soon - what triggers are there for him to make his £1m take-home next year? Or will this finally be the year we see Peter step aside?

But he'll crack a joke at Sevco's expense at the AGM and that will make it all right.

Even given the nature of our current strategy, the renumeration committee wants to have a word with itself about that. Bonus almost equal to his net salary in a year for the business that surely can't be described as anything better than average is excessive.

I'm not up to date with the going rate for CEO's salaries but surely this is an absurd amount for the current state we find ourselves in?

A million fecking quid a year :nono:
