They are brilliant; they knew we were crap and wouldn't go through, so they didn't spend any money.
Makes sense, to them.
well... ;)

My issue is that we sell our good players and not have a ready made replacement within the ranks. If VVD goes, we should already have a defender there to step up, we don't. We didn't have it with Wanyama or Hooper. We sold them and then bought their replacement in. That is not how to do it.
I honestly think we still haven't replaced them. Who are you counting as Wanyama's replacement? Biton? Not the same type of player for me... although could be developed into one perhaps. And who was hooper's replacement? Pukki? Again - a different type of player... not a central striker, and certainly not a goalscorer. Whenever he played for schalke (off the bench) - he was a sort of link player. (Please ghod don't say it is Griffiths....)

For me, we have never replaced Wanyama or Hooper.

I know it's depressing, but when are people going to come around to the fact that this season was most likely written off in terms of net expenses :brickwall:

Unless attendances regularly drop below, say, 30 000 every other week, which probably won't happen anyway, not unless a treble is no longer on the cards, for example.

Wanyama was a freak. Teams all over Europe are looking for players like that. You can forget a Wanyama mk2 anytime soon.
Hooper on the other hand could have and should have been replaced even if it was by a 30 odd year old short term option.

Agreed he was freak - i just meant we haven't even replaced his position yet! We haven't got somebody in who can sit in, dominate the area in front of the back 4, soak up attacks, and provide (much needed) air cover for our defence.

That is why quality sides (like barca last year) can now blow us away.

I posted a list of good young defensive midfielders we could have gone for last year. there were about 4 names on it, none of them wanyama class, but all of whom would have added real value to that squad we have.

We got £12.5m for Wanyama, which on paper is fantastic for the club. When you look into it, it's not so fantastic for the fans, its not as if that money has been pumped back into signings. In hindsight, I would rather have rejected that offer and if it comes to it, he can run down his contract. It's not like we see any of the money anyway, may as well keep him

As loathe as I am to join in the slagging of the board on the basis that they're generally doing a good job in tricky circumstances, it's becoming increasingly apparent that Lawwell has been in place for far too long.

The Lennon to Deila transition has been handled really badly.

To go into the most important games of the Season with a new manager that hasn't been allowed to spend even £1 in the transfer market getting his own players in is just an utter disgrace.

They need to pull a Big Signing out the bag this week, I know he won't be able to play next week but would at least up the Atmosphere at Murrayfield a wee bit. They won't though. They'll just keep draining money out the Club in Bonuses

Thing I don't get. Some folk Give Lawell et al plaudits for getting us on an even keel. Breaking even with that squad of mediocrity and the fanbase we have isn't an achievement, it's failure.

Where is the money going? if we have a 5 star back of office set up, then get it to eff and spend the money on the pitch.
Dunno why but the line from AC\DC 'Downpayment Blues' .
..'got myself a Cadillac but I can't afford the gasoline' came to mind when I read that. :(

So the Celtic manager is on less than 4k per week??

The problem we have here is basically a director of football with no background in football.

Lawwell is a big problem in here.

John Park also.

They're probably thinking 'It's awright, they might not show up this year, but the huns will be back next season...'

And you know what, they'd be right :(

Won't happen. Too many idiots will be waving plastic flags and partying because we're the least shampoo team in this shampoo league. It's gutting.

His time is up what ever his role is in the club. We must be the only club in Europe that hasn't strengthened there team before an important UCL tie.
