Spoke at length today with a member of our staff. He said we are not training hard enough. This is why we are tiring in games. Doesn't seem to tie in with the RD mantra, but that's what he said. He also said the manager and his team asked for a left back and a striker in the summer window.
Didn't sound very happy about much, and I got the feeling that it's not a particularly happy camp right now.
Thats not good, but not really a surprise given how we've faded in too many games already.
This league could be closer than it should be if its not sorted out on the training ground, eff all else can be done about the squad until January.

Cifci was definately Ronny's target, either he thought 'oh feck' after seeing him up close or he wanted two or, even worse, he sees him as yet another attacking mid.

That doesn't sound very encouraging at all. Have our coaching team lost the plot then?

Suppose you can look at that a couple of ways - either the players aren't being trained hard enough, or they are not putting the work in.
3rd option, the guy haven't got a clue on what modern training is about ;)

None of it sounds surprising but there can be absolute no excuse for any of it.

Deila has made it clear himself that fitness is major part of how he coaches and we have Collins who is the exact same.

We were saying we needed a left back and striker last season never mind this season yet we have less options for up front than we did last season and weaker options at that. Plus we haven't address left back, Blackett has been brought in but he hardly seems a first choice option plus you say he isn't thought of as a left back.

We are in a 1 horse race for the title, there should be no reason for it not to be a happy camp. The board have to shoulder most of the blame but Deila and the rest of the coaches obviously aren't doing their jobs right with a few of the issues raised.

Looks like the cracks are starting to appear. There have been rumours about the training for a while. Footballers are simple creatures. They need to be told what to do.

Are players given responsibility for their own training? :ponder:

The cracks are appearing?

We lost a game against Malmo.

The only game we have lost this season.

Lots of teams start the season out of sorts, some are still in the middle of transfer speculation until end of August.
How many seasons have we had slow starts or crappy Euro performances while the squad comes together.

We lose a game and now cracks are appearing.

Be as well reading the newspapers.

Whilst it's not surprising that Ronny didn't get the players he asked for, it's alarming to think that training isn't going well. Maybe the international break has come at the right time as it'll give some of the players down time, and others a change in their surroundings.

Overall you have to give pass marks to PL and the Board. They run a profitable club which is hard in the small country we operate with little TV revenue that other countries have. We need to move more of our funds in to Lennoxtown and I think that Ronnie shows the type of character we need at the helm. He is an educator, a developer, a communicator and pretty much a focused motivator. Out Board appointed him and that is a great strategic appointment. Long term is the key and he is already building a team below the first team that will be ready to take us forward (same as the Quality Street under Jock).
Overall we are in good hands, we wont get them all right but in the main on the right track.

If we could sort our LB, strikers and perhaps timing of signings then we could be on to something........... HH KTF
We are only turning a profit on the back of player sales.

We are not sitting on a large pot of money to blow on several signings when sevco arrives back where they belong (copyright MSM). The accounts show that.

Someone a few pages back said we should only spend what we earn. This is the point I take exception with. It is a flawed business plan. You make £X. You spend that. You don't qualify for the CL. You sell slightly less tickets than last year. Turnover falls as a result. So you sell your best players. You don't give others the new contracts they are looking for so they leave. As the result of the player sales you are back to £X. You spend that. You don't qualify for the CL. You sell less tickets than last year...Rinse and repeat.

There are only two things that can happen. Either you fluke a qualification for the CL and increase the turnover, or, eventually you run out of assets to sell and you disappear down the plughole of mediocrity.

The alternative is that you spend a bit more and earlier. This is not "speculate to accumulate", it's a controversial idea that has been around in business circles for a few years. It's called investment. You take your £X and borrow a small amount more. Say £5million more. And you buy say a good defender to play next to someone like VVD before the qualifiers. You get through the qualifiers to the CL. You earn £X plus £20million. You also sell more season tickets. Turnover goes up £25million. You pay back the £5million you borrowed.

You then have £X plus £20million to spend next year. You buy a couple of players, you invest in your training facilities, your scouting, your youth set up. You don't need to sell your best players to balance the books. Even if you get an offer too good to refuse you can afford good replacements.

You produce a virtuous circle of sensible investment/spending and development.

But what if you failed that first year the board apologists say? Firstly, will we really be that much worse off if we were an additional £5 million in debt? Secondly, even if you don't qualify, you are still putting better quality on the park and you may sell more tickets anyway. You might offset the costs with a better performance in the Europa League.

And even if you don't, you still have a better chance of qualifying for the CL in year two just spending £X as you are starting from a better base.

We could, reasonably, afford to spend a little bit more. The Board are choosing not to.

Their current plan amounts to cross our fingers, hope for the best, and at worst, at least the mugs will by more tickets when we have the Rangers back next year (and remember to do the joke about them not really being Rangers at the AGM...)

You're the expert (no condescension intended). You think this team looks fitter than it did? To me, Malmo looked fitter and I'm not buying into their manager's guff. We lacked bravery on the ball, which isn't about fitness, but we also lacked energy both off the ball and on it. For me that is the most disappointing aspect of Ronny's tenure. I was hoping we'd see this high pressing, high intensity game and we are blowing out our collective arses. The fact Ronny believes in the ethos of fitness and diet does not necessarily mean he knows how to put it into practice and convey it to others. You have bought into him because of his ideas. I can respect that. But it appears to me he is having a problem putting them into practice. In a senior, well paid management position that really isn't acceptable.

. They were better organised, better disciplined, fitter and, importantly, played with total belief they would get through the tie. They won as a team - .
And that makes them better players in my mind. Being a good player does not just mean that you are skilled with a ball. All of what
you have just mentioned is required as well. That is why they dumped us out.
Surprised at you Murph.
Why did we beat Barca? We didn't have one player who would get in their team. Not one. Football is a team game. With organisation, energy, belief and a good tactical gameplan, one team can beat the other despite having inferior individual players. We have proved it time and again. There isn't one single Malmo player I'd want in our team. To me their best player is a Celtic reject. Rosenberg - took advantage of a mistake from a set piece and done little else. I'd have Griffiths every day of the week. We have better players than Malmo all over the pitch - a team they assembled for the same money we paid for Cictci. I can guarantee you there will be no one leaving Malmo for any kind of money any time soon - Rosenberg appears to be their man main and he was sent back from West Brom with his tails between his legs on a free. Their strength is in the collective, not the individual. Ours is the exact opposite.
