Could any of the boo bhoys please give us a detailed breakdown of the present financial situation? Then please give us the details to the solution you believe needs to be found.
Present financial situation: In 3 of the last 5 years we have reported a profit. The combined profit of those last 5 years (before tax) was nearly £12m. We pay our Chief Executive an average of about £1m a year (more than almost anyone in our squad). Solution: Get a Chief Executive making half of what Lawwell is making. Spend the average £3m annual profit we would be banking.
Even if that did equate to an extra £3 million to spend per year (it doesn't because you haven't accounted for tax), that money really doesn't stretch very far once you take account of transfer/loan fees plus wages plus agent fees. Adding an additional c. £2 million per year to the club's operating expenditure of c. £60 million (which is effectively what you are talking about) is not likely to materially improve the squad. Given the margins in which we are operating, the strength of our squad from time to time is utterly dependent on the decisions made by our scouting team. The success of our transfer policy lives and dies by the scouts' ability to find a Wanyama rather than a Pukki. That is the real issue here. The issue isn't how much we spend; it's how we spend it. The problem, however, and this is where I have some sympathy with John Park and his team, is that we need to unearth these players before other clubs which are often far better funded. I agree that we need to look at how we spend the money more wisely. We are not seeing the benefit on the park of having a much bettr football budget than the likes of Malmo and Maribor.
The CEO is still responsible for our failure to add to our striking options.

. They were better organised, better disciplined, fitter and, importantly, played with total belief they would get through the tie. They won as a team - . And that makes them better players in my mind. Being a good player does not just mean that you are skilled with a ball. All of what you have just mentioned is required as well. That is why they dumped us out. Surprised at you Murph.

I didn't say otherwise, although I have no idea what conversations took place among Ronny, John Park and Lawwell about strikers.

Spoke at length today with a member of our staff. He said we are not training hard enough. This is why we are tiring in games. Doesn't seem to tie in with the RD mantra, but that's what he said. He also said the manager and his team asked for a left back and a striker in the summer window. Didn't sound very happy about much, and I got the feeling that it's not a particularly happy camp right now.

Overall you have to give pass marks to PL and the Board. They run a profitable club which is hard in the small country we operate with little TV revenue that other countries have. We need to move more of our funds in to Lennoxtown and I think that Ronnie shows the type of character we need at the helm. He is an educator, a developer, a communicator and pretty much a focused motivator. Out Board appointed him and that is a great strategic appointment. Long term is the key and he is already building a team below the first team that will be ready to take us forward (same as the Quality Street under Jock). Overall we are in good hands, we wont get them all right but in the main on the right track.
If we could sort our LB, strikers and perhaps timing of signings then we could be on to something........... HH KTF

Heaven forfend. Did I suggest we shouldn't have signed a striker and a left back in addition to those two?
(Hint: no)
I was just curious as to whether Ronny thinks we should have signed a left back and a striker in addition to those two, or whether he thinks we should have signed different players entirely.

HH KTF His team just failed their biggest target of the season, and a lot of that was down to the mentality he instilled in the team (or couldn't prevent from taking hold in the team). Either way, I'd think this kind of profile is a bit unwarranted just now. There is a completely different mentality when you are at a smaller club than when you are utterly expected to win, and its a disaster when you don't.

I think longer term he has a place at Celtic Park which will prove worth the investment time wise. I reckon he will grow to the job and our problem will be holding on to him never mind judging him. Hope so HH

Suppose you can look at that a couple of ways - either the players aren't being trained hard enough, or they are not putting the work in.

Danny McGrain? He was deliberately cryptic. Did you see that as an attempt to start a game of guess who?
Boab, does he have grey hair?
Does he wear glasses?
Did he play fullback?
