not really sure where to put this, but it's a very interesting analysis

Could we create a separate thread for this maybe? I absolutely love the Swiss Ramble and read everything he writes (even when he talks about clubs like Watford) - I work in finance so I'm naturally inclined to think of these issues I guess.

A few quick thoughts of mine
- despite the lip service we've given to youth and development, my feeling is that we do a very poor job here. I'm not talking about just simply the numbers of youth players coming through the squad, either. I'd love the opportunity to tour our facilities and look at our sports managment programs (gym regimens, diet, body mapping) but from my gut reaction is we probably don't even compare to an above average US college football team. That's just my gut though. I also don't think you need to look at teams like City because they can always through $$$ at an issue, but the setup of clubs like Southampton/Malmo/Ajax/Lyon are fascinating - all for different reasons.

- I think a huge key for our long term financial viablility is developing a much larger media and viewing presence in both the US and Asia - the US especially. And I don't mean that in terms of just buying an American or Japanase/chinese player every once in awhile (although that doesn't hurt - when i go to the bar to watch matches i still see people who started watching teams like Hull because of Jozy Altidore - imagine if we had a GOOD american playing for us?) but also in having some youth coaching camps in large cities like Boston and the Baltimore/DC/NOVA/Philly corrider. Getting kids wearing our jersey and our colors even for a few years of their childhood can have huge effects - and there's also that whole 'faux Irish/scottish' thing that exists in american culture. Maybe even partner a bit with the Boston Celtics or something - think outside of the box a little. We'll probably never get a player out of it but I think there are a ton of gains to be had by grassroots development in the US - there are a ton of football hipsters (like me) we get super annoyed every time they see a brand new american Man City or chelsea fan.

- this is probably more controversial but i think we crapped the bed with our merchandising the last few years. I'm biased (for multiple reasons) but i would have loved to get on the Under Armour train - they are huge up and comers but more importantly have really interesting and effective marketing that we could have been at the absolute forefront of. I'm sure a few people think their recent tottenham kits aren't great, but to be honest that is the absolute least important qualifier.

Anyways, a few quick thoughts. It's absolutely clear th 1) Champs league is mandatory every year and 2) the gap between us and the larger leagues is growing larger and larger even with Champs league revenue. So we can either wait for the entire football financial world to change (not going to happen anytime soon) or we can really try to do something unique and different.

This isn't meant to be all negative - I think we have some really amazing and unique attributes - fantastic history, cultural ties to the on of the largest tv markets in the world, continual success - that we can really build on that literally no other club has.
Enough with these intelligent, informed, thoughtful & sensible posts already!!!

What's all this positivity?????

The RD Bus having nae room left, the early (decent) signing with more in the pipeline, the Standing Section being announced for next season, the major upgrading of outside the Stadium, season books selling better than last year, and now the UNIVERSALLY acclaimed Away Strip?

I need stuff to moan about. Don't ruin my summer Lawwell with this good stuff pish. Give me stuff to bump my gums about. :nono:
And another award

http://www.celticfc.net/news/8431

CELTIC Football Club is delighted today to announce that it has become the first Scottish football club ever to be awarded the prestigious National Club Licensing Platinum Award by the Scottish Football Association.

The Scottish FA’s Club Licensing system encompasses a National and UEFA regulatory system, which sets standards and procedures by which clubs will be assessed as a basis for continuous improvement of many aspects of football, including:

Stadium facilities

First-team football

Youth football

Legal, administration and finance practices

Clubs are graded from entry level, Bronze, Silver and Gold and only in exceptional cases will the Platinum Award be granted.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “We are delighted to be the first Scottish club to receive the Platinum Award.

“Celtic aims at all times to be a world-class football club in everything we do and this award is recognition of the high standards of governance across many areas, which the club has met for some time.”

“I would like to thank and applaud everyone at the club for their efforts in achieving such continuous improvement across these areas and of course for their high standards of professionalism.

“I know everyone is committed to maintaining these levels and ensuring that Celtic continues to be an example of best practice.”
The judges obviously didn't try the catering in the Main Stand.

There is one Celtic employee that seems immune to wage restraint, namely the chief executive, who trousered just under £1 million for the second year in a row. This included a £400,000 bonus payment, even though his contractual maximum bonus payment should be 60% of his salary of £525,000, i.e. £315,000. Happily for Mr. Lawwell, the Remuneration Committee decided to make an additional bonus award on an ex gratia basis. While he is no doubt very good at his job, this does seem a bit steep, when the rest of the wage bill is under so much pressure.

Damn tootin!

Seeing how much grief Ronny has come under for taking a slender lead to Malmo & drawing with a very poor Killie, I wonder how much responsibility the Board should take?
Obviously this will depend on Tuesday's result more than anything, but most fans would probably agree that we haven't improved the starting eleven that played Inter last season - we have probably improved the overall squad though.
We have improved the starting eleven that failed to qualify for the CL last time though, but this was desperately needed & possibly should've been more comprehensive for most fans - rather than raiding DUFC.

It might be that the January window is our most important window now, where we can get new signings settled in time for CL qualifying & know what budget we have left to spend.

The Board really like to gamble on CL qualification, obviously feeling that we have enough in the squad to get us through the qualifiers. I hope they're right this time, but I can't help but feel that they could've done a bit more to help their Manager, 1st eleven & fans.

Did well to get the standing section though, that was a good effort & the stadium & kit sponsors etc have done well to improve recently.
I wonder who is in charge of the stadium, they look to be the best department - if that's how it works?

The blame lies squarely on the board. Year after year the warning signs have only became more clearer, yet Lawwell and co have completely ignored them.

The board need to look at the quality on the pitch and our CL failures and change their approach.

I've pretty much had it with the situation.

Lawwell has to carry the can for this.
He won't. He's bomb proof.

The usual folk will do their moaning, there'll be a surge in "Lawwell GTF" posts when the transfer window shuts, nae carrot will do anything about it, and Board resentment dies down mid-October when we're skelping wee diddy clubs. Rinse and repeat next summer.

Lawwell has overstayed his welcome by about three years. He has to carry the can for this. He pointed the manager after all.

How much bonus does a Chief Executive deserve when you fail to beat a £2M team?
