Again, why oh why couldn't Scepovic or Giudetti have been signed before the maribor games?
Penny pinching cost us a Champions League spot, and the tight arsed board shouldnt be allowed to escape that.
Seconded. There is a lot of euphoria at the moment over 1 signing, and another guy on loan. This is a calculated move by the board to avert a mob gathering in the car park.

5 loans - 1 of whom was signed while injured
1 proper transfer
and an injury prone keeper from the dole queue. ( with no young backup brought in for a fee - leaves us 2 keepers plus Fasan.)

11 million recouped in transfer fees,
wage savings on the wasters who have been loaned out
lost our top keeper
lost a striker who could probably have scored goals (Watt)
lost another forward who was a threat in europe (Samaras)

We sold the players before the qualifiers, but didn't sign replacements until after we were knocked out.

Negligence, and a signing at 5 to midnight on deadline day doesn't change that.

The inability of the board to get players tied up before it really matters is well doumented. However, our season begins incredibly early when the transfer window is barely getting started. I'm not happy at all about some of the things going on at board level but it's not always as simple as people make out.

Scepovic strung the deal out as long as he possibly could in order to try and get a better move. That isn't the boards fault that he went back on his word. Thankfully here we are twenty four hours later and he's signed.

I understand the logic of bringing players in on loan first. For a club with our limited resources it's a good test and measure system. That being said, we are too risk averse at times and it has badly affected the mood of the supporters.

Gordon wasn't Deila's signing but - as it stands - it looks like we have a very capable replacement for Forster. Equally Denayer looks a fine centre half and although there's no option to buy that might change in the future. We had to wait two years before Newcastle would finally part with Forster (just to put it in context).

Last year's attempts to sign a forwards were laughable. We all know that based on how things worked out with Pukki and Balde (although I still think signing Griffiths was a decent purchase based on his goal return ratio).

Scepovic and Guidetti appear to be real strikers (although I hear Guidettia has injury problems). As for the lad from Ghana, again I hear very good things about him. Who does that leave? Berget. Well, so far I'm not sure but he seems to be decent enough. It's too early to say.

Tonev is this years Boeriggter by the sound of it. At any rate Boeriggter was very highly rated by the Ajax fans, they were just exhausted with the fact he was always injured. We took a gamble on him and so far it's been a bad decision but you never know. If he can stay fit he might begin to resemble the player that looked so promising when he first arrived. Kayal looks reborn under the new manager.

Basically, with the two new forwards on board this looks like it might actually be a good transfer window.

The board had months and months to prepare.

If July was too early to sign one capable centre forward, then mid August after the embarrassment of the Legia reprieve certainly wasn't.

It's simple, it appears we've conducted some good business tonight but it's far too late with Champions League football gone.

An absolute train wreck of a transfer window. Not to mention season.

Our next crisis will arrive shortly before Halloween when we're installing a new manager.

Wouldn't rule it out but let's see how he does with some fresh blood, hopefully these guys are coming with his blessing. Obviously others will scout players but pray he has had final say as he needs guys who fit his ideals of how he wants to play. Then he can be judged. Trying to stay patient with him for now as the board / Lawwell have really hung him out to dry so far.

Why would we sign a young backup if we have Fasan (highly rated apparently)?

Agree with the rest though.
Good question - i rate him too.

Thing is - Fasan will be needed to play, as the Dev League has started now, and the eligibility rules are different from last years U20 league. Additionally, Celtic are entering a U21 team in the competiton run by the english premier league, for their top 8 plus 8 other invited sides. Also, we SHOULD have been playing in the U19 champions league, but obviously aren't now as the top team didn't qualify. (Another bugbear of mine - the youths miss out due to our incompetence).

That means we were going for the CL with only Gordon, who is decent, but injury prone, and Zaluska as the senior pro keepers. I feel that having sold forster, an picked up gordon on a free, we should have signed a third keeper as 1 - gordon is likely to get injured and 2 - gordon is 29, so a promising young goalkeeper (2 or 3 years older than fasan) to compete with gordon and also for us to develop and potentially sell on, should have been recruited.

Lukas isn't really competition for gordon, and srious clubs tend to habe 3 proper keepers - Neil lennon said the same when he signed Noring.

It'll be shortly after Halloween, when a certain ex-Celtic player's current coaching contract runs out.

I actually now cgaf.

He's made my club nothing short of an embarrassment.

I make no apologies for that description.
This isn't about our 'rude health' or the state of the huns, it's about Celtic supporters now being fleeced on an alarming scale.

Over £30m in transfers last few seasons, £21m profit in March?

Failed at our second chance at Europe, a £20m game and no new players other than a free goalkeeper and a Man City loan.

It's absolutely baffling and alarm bells have been going off for a couple of seasons with no action at all on the behalf of the board.

Abysmal.

We aim to come out of every transfer window stronger...

I'm paraphrasing but that's an accurate summation.

Transfer window's closed now, we can afford a bit of disruption while we recruit a competent CEO to replace him, who can then appoint a competent Director of Football (who can then sack that other usless carrot Park).

An absolute train wreck of a transfer window. Not to mention season.

Our next crisis will arrive shortly before Halloween when we're installing a new manager.

It was a tough window. We Changed manager so that we could change our style of play. The new guy realised quickly that a lot of players at the club werent up to changing their style of play, but had to persevere to try and get into the champions league. we dont get to the champions league.

But trying to draw some positives, we moved out a few players who were never celtic class. Pukki, Balde, Fridjohnson all made way rather than take up a place on the bench.

We brough in a couple of wingers on loan, who will hopefully add some pace and creativity to the team. We brought through young McGregor and tied him down to a long contract and he adds to something to the sqaud. We signed a target man, the type of player who can score goals, but also holds the ball up and fits into the new managers style of play. We signed a good goalkeper too.
We have also kept a hold of Van Dijk, easily the best defender we have had in the last 10 years.

Now hopefully, Ronny has time to work with the team. To realise that Mulgrew and Stokes are not the answer and need to be back up players (not the focus of the team) to use Commons in the right way, to bring through some of the younger talent and the bed in the new guys.

We also have a chance now to look at players in scotland, maybe we will go in for guys like Armstrong in January or find a left back or a replacement for Virgil.

A shambles that needs fixed.

no doubt signing 1 solitary player will help pull the wool over a few folks eyes and might increase euro attendances by another 1 or 2k and saint peter will be forgiven as we struggle to overcome 3 mediocre teams that are sadly now our level, or at worst, better than us.

the board are destroying our club just now. euro games with only the bottom tier opened?! this is what you have done peter, you are driving fans away. im not going as i would rather not give him my money, and it pains me that i miss out on my club because of it.

I was shot down in flames a few weeks ago by some posters when I said our transfer window was embarassing. "Calm doon. There's weeks to go yet" was the cry. I hate to say I proved right. I would have loved to have been proved wrong. I didn't have to be a soothsayer to see where it was heading. Based on previous transfer windows, no one of note bought in January to bed in ahead of the CL qualifiers. And so it worked out. No signings for our CL qualifiers (both sets!) And topped off by missing the deadline yesterday. You couldn't make it up (well actually you could - it's Celtic we are dealing with here)

Lawwell started well, but is now godawful. He's obviously been signing players in his own image.
