Yea verily, and another very good reason why he should not be trousering £1M, he insults his customers by being proven to be lying about figures in the public domain whilst on a self defence PR tour, and showing ultimately that he is an amateur not worth his salt. The only reason he is on this spin offensive is because of his tardiness and reluctance to hammer out deals for players in advance of our lifeblood CL qualifiers. He is criminally negligent to have missed a another 15-20M windfall, and the ability to lure players here with said CL prospects. This year he had a further chance to correct the lack of Hoopers replacement by bringing in a striker before Maribor, but again his footballing assessment of such a gamble was 100% wrong. However he knew that his bonus would be OK as he already had VVD suitably annoyed that he would be easy to move on, and hey presto the balance without CL looks not to shabby. This all puts the GB negotiations into some kind of focus, when we all have been doubting their claims, that the club constantly renaiges on promises. Living wage refused, but this man says we have to sell our stars to maintain our staff's salaries, which is another amateur hour blunder. |

The club is now run run from a buisness perspective, of that there is no doubt. We have been risk averse to the point of criticism, most likely due to the moderate to severe risk taking which has brought down other scottish clubs. For all the criticism I've seen though the idea that we haven't been successful in the last 10 years seems ludicrous, even the 'more right than wrong' could certainly be argued as being correct given the overall balance of very good to worth a punt vs diddys we've had in the team. This is currently a fairly low point and maybe a new CEO would bring fresh perspective that would turn things around, however my pov is that the state of scottish football has alot more to do with our current position than mismangement, if we want the club to expand we have to get out of the pond that is spl, never again be involved in symbiotic relationship with huns tribute act and truly maximise our brand which is way stronger than most in british football imo, if the board et al really wanted to simply line their pockets then they wouldnt be involved in football as its actually one of the worst arenas to acheive that. |

Very good series of posts murphio calling out pl distortions on accounts So at a time when we are given a free pass in Scotland to the league And almost a free pass to the cl And year on year revenues in championship and epl move transfer fees and wages higher across numerous leagues The board decide to pursue a policy of investment in aggressively repayment of all debt using our revenues in the business but not on the team The board decide to fund this strategy by selling all of our quality assets Leaving virtually nothing of worth And arrogantly believe that as wages and transfer fees on their assessment away from their reach that rather than alter their policy in the face of reality to split squad in to distinct quality, self reared and lower quality on distinct wage structure They will adopt their naemoneyball To recruit only no fee and reduced wages assets of poorer quality To recruit cheaper and cheaper management teams To give the football management team less and less power on recruitment and the academy To gamble with some 20-25% of revenues each year To drive down entertainment hitting gates hospitality merchandising and sponsorship To alienate the support And then tell them they don't understand football the business of football that rangers are the panacea and that they are Celtic supporters Well then they can eff off - cause not only are the clueless about Celtic and football they are clueless on business |

Going to the Sunday Mail to peddle his spin? Thats a bit Murrayesque... One thing that stuck from that CTV 'interview' was when it was brought up about 50k a week players, the answer was 'Do you know thats more than the total of all the other SPFL teams weekly wages put together.' Just more spin but a sign he thinks looking behind and below us to base potential spending is a good thing and demonstrates the lack of ambition. I dont think anybody is asking for 50k a week players but theres ways a player on wages higher than our top two earners Scott Brown and Peter Lawwell could be brought in, hes clearly not interested in stepping things up. |

I'd be interested in finding out how exactly having no Sevco affects Celtic's figures. The TV deal was abysmal in the first place, so it can't have been from that. The cost of season books was dropped, but I don't think that was solely to do with the huns. The fact is football in Scotland is overpriced and a lot of people can't justify it. If there was going to be a better 'product' on the park then they might make other sacrifices. There's a general apathy that sees a lot of people who have paid for tickets not actually going to games, or stories of people struggling to give away their tickets for free. There's very little guile or craft on display to get fans off their arses. Without the Green Brigade, there's more noise and atmosphere in your average Galllowgate pub than there is in a stadium with 30,000 or 40,000 people in it, possibly to do with the feeling that the 'match day experience' is a series of jingles and soundbites as part of a marketing campaign to impress upon you that you're, really, having a fun day out after all. I also think the living wage thing is a pure scunner to more people than they think, using Brother Walfrid and the club's charitable foundations as another selling point (Ronny Deila was briefed to mention this when he made his bow to the media) while by logical extension some of Celtic's own staff may be forced to use the very foodbanks that the club's charitable division supports. The absurdity of it is remarkable. Then we have a chairman, speaking in a personal capacity of course - but his name is readily identified and associated with the club - making public pronouncement and interventions on the independence debate, while fans were having their wee bits of paper taken from them. It's okay to use your influence as a flush Tory, but the rank and file should be denied their opportunity to make their own point in their own way - it's not as if the Herald is going to print an open letter from fans after all. Ultimately, when you are selling to 'customers' a 'match day experience' then the 'product' had better be a good one. For a lot of people, whose heart maybe ruled their head for years, might stop going when the heart has gone from the club.* Whether Sevco are around is neither here nor there. |

That's what struck me about that interview too - the fact he was bringing up the financial status of clubs like Ross County and Hamilton who play in front of two men and the proverbial dog each week. Our spending should be compared with similar-sized clubs around Europe such as Benfica, Porto and Ajax. Whilst those three clubs regularly lose their best players to more lucrative leagues like England, Spain and Germany, they at least replace them with decent-money purchases so that the team doesn't end up incredibly weaker. When Porto sign Brazilian internationals, do you think their CEO concerns himself with the financial status of the smallest teams in Portugal's top flight? |

Peter Lawwell bumping his gums about holes in the finances in time for the last day of the transfer window? With figures plucked from his arse? May as well close the transfer rumour thread. Although that bit where he talks about missing out on Scottish players and 'our guys' not thinking they were good enough. Well why fking not then? This scouting team thought Pukki, Balde and Griffiths were good enough to spunk our apparently precious monies on, while McCarthy, Gauld and a host of others are allowed to leave because we reckon we're far too good for them. It's been mentioned here before but is someone carrying the can for this ongoing clusterjobby? What does Lawwell intend to do about it? I'm not sure his 'Fitba's pure mad expensive these days' routine works any more. You'd need to be daft to think we don't have money, look at the turnover. It's how we're spending it that's the problem. |

Lawwell is now saying that the team he calls Rangers is costing us half the champions league pot ? I think it's best we don't know what our board was saying behind the scenes when Rangers snuffed it . Lawwell what a slime ball |

Wasn't it widely rumoured at the time that Lawwell would have been all for Sevco being granted an immediate passage to the SPL in exchange for fairly minor concessions like a points deduction or transfer embargo? Wouldn't be at all surprised if he was pushing for that before changing his tune once he realised the rest of the SPL clubs were adamant the Newco had to start life at the bottom. |

Why the surprise.By refusing wgs the funds to buy stevie fletcher all these years ago lawwell handed the huns 3 league in a row and 3 champions league money which gave then quite a few year reprieve from going out of business. He's deflecting from the fact that it's his gross negligence which has cost us £15m this season by not bringing in a player or 2 before the cl qualifiers. |

So you have'nt noticed any prior occasions that stalling by Peter Lawwell in signing players required for problematic roles have cost the club dearly. I'm sure both Gordon Strachan and Lenny could give you chapter and verse. I have'nt said anywhere that we have'nt been successful in the past 10 years, but we have been embarrassing ourselves in Europe these past 2 years, which coincides with Peter and the boards plan to tread water regarding spending on players because Rangers are not in the league. If we wished to benefit from Rangers absence, and counter the acknowledged paucity of the Scots game then we should have been trying to ensure CL group qualification every feckin year we were in the qualifiers. Last years campaign was proof of the wrong policy, and no doubt why Lenny baled and has been gagged by a cowardly board, who if they were following policies in the interests of footballing progress ( where you do have to take a little risk, unless your are blinkered by bonuses and your own rep) would never have to have gagged him and Johan. I and others are not criticising prudence, but what we are observing is that yes the board have presided over safe success, but that the fruits borne of the policies being followed in the lead up to the past 2 years, and at present, indicate that we have got it wrong cumulatively at least. There is also an argument that the board have chosen to clear all debt instead of invest in maintaining a competitive CL standard of player pool, and there is a great danger that if that standard of player pool is not maintained, and it has'nt been since Wanyama & Hooper were sold, that we will never again be able to attract even lesser talent to the SPL without the CL. Our showing in last years CL was a terrible advert for the club, but no alarm bells rung and Lenny's warnings fell on wealthy, deaf, and egotistic ears, Peter had succeeded in scunnering and eventually seeing off, the one man who could have gotten DD's ear that Peter's policies needed modifying in response to our circumstances. Let's face it the huns aint going to be back guns blazing and helping local sponsorships etc, and the SPL status is not going to miraculously improve in the eyes of others, so we need to look after ourselves, and that means qualifying for the CL stages as often as possible, and not to tarnish the clubs rep by getting tanked 6-1 going on 10-1 by average teams, and being unable to score goals against average teams at CP. That is negligence, PL knows that it will be seen by many as such, (including prospective signings as he is discovering, DOH!)hence the PR spin, and so should you mate. The board members with the exception of PL do not only have one job, and Peter would be fair pushed to get the same salary in any other arena of business due to his lack of judgement, and never putting his hands up when he gets it wrong. Usually a manager gets sacked, or a player is given away quietly, we do however hear all about it when he or his staff get it right, and I dont mind that. What we want at present is a rethink on our present course of actions, because the results show we are getting it wrong. We need CL income as often as possible, and instead of spinning lies that factors other than debt clearance is starving the transfer budget, the support would probably take on board any explanation that we are doing x because of y. Peter and his fabled team of scouts were not ready in the summer, and were not ready ahead of the Maribor game, that is gross negligence, and an indication either of a group of lazy teflon coated individuals, or an over zealous and ultimately suicidal policy of tight fistedness. Why we as a football club, are focussing on debt clearance rather than the CL is one of the many questions PL should be pounded on by our succulent fish partakers. He comes out of this badly with no credibility, and looking pretty thick, if he thinks he can deceive other than a supplicant minority of the Celtic support. |
