is lawwell basically saying that without all the high profile sales at large profit and the last 2 years of CL money we would be well fecked??
Yes - and that is the most incredible part! Even if it were true (which I don't believe it is re the figures I posted) our CEO is claiming that in order to keep the lights burning in the absence of Rangers we have to gamble on the sale of assets. Unbelievable.
no. we'd have had to reduce the playing staff and wage bill massively which has been obvious to anyone looking at the accounts

our last accounts showed a 40.1m wage bill then we spent a further 10m on transfers last seasons. thats a huge investment in the playing staff wether people like it or not. the problem is not the amount or lack of money being invested in the team. its the way its being used

No, we wouldn't. Go back and check the accounts. The reason wages rose heavily last season was because we have adopted a structure which is heavily weighted in bonuses and incentives. When we fail to make the Champions League the wagebill falls accordingly. Can you point me to even one season in the recent past where the failure to make the Champions League resulted in us being 'well effed'? In the post Mowbray season, for example, the club's revenue dropped 10m from the season before and yet we still posted a small profit. The club is not - and never has been - geared to depend on Champions League revenue.

thats because the revenue hadnt dropped hugely like in recent years since the huns died not to mention 10k+ season ticket holders going missing and the ones that are still going paying £100 less.

seriously. anyone who doesnt think we would be screwed without the 60-70m brought in through player sales and cl participation is mental

player sales and champions league has certainly made up for no huns in the league but it is not guaranteed income and is costly to gamble on. as i fear we will find out in the next few years

Surely, the CL money alone would cover the drop in revenue we get from hun matches? :ponder: Why not use the money from sale of players to reinvest in the team?

the money is reinvested in the team through transfers and going towards our wage bill which is not sustainable with our current revenue

we have a wage bill about 15-20 times the size of maribor who have a team that didnt have a penny spent on transfer fees. how much more investment is needed to guarantee champions league qualification against such teams? how much more do people want to spend?

I'm honestly lost at the point you are trying to make. The figures in the accounts have shown that even in years where there is no Champions League revenue the club is geared to withstand the impact. We are not dependent on it. When it comes to selling players it is true to say that without the sale of McGeady there would have been no Hooper, no Forster and no Commons. Without the sale of Wanyama there would have been no van Dijk, no Boerigter and no money spent tarting up the stadium. It is essential we sell players to buy players.

That is quite different to Lawwell claiming, however, that we have to sell players to fill a 10m annual void left by Rangers. As I showed overleaf - the last two years with Rangers in the league generated the club 104m in total income. In the two years of their absence it is closer to 135m. We have completely eradicated debt and have cash - albeit not a lot - in the bank. To suggest the club can't spend a few quid in strengthening the team because the huns are gone is laughable.

If SPLOB is right about the demise of the huns costing us £10M a year shouldn't his pay packet be reduced accordingly due to the downsiizing?

I can't believe I hate Lawwell more today than I did on Friday but I do.

I must be utterly thick or deluded. Might just throw my qualifications in the bin.

Get this.... Lawwell is very concerned by Rangers current situation. He says their inability to raise (sorry fleece) their supporters for more cash from the new issue of shares highlights the poor state of Scottish football. Not only is he a bullshampoor... he is an idiot.

Reinvested in the club, according to your pal Lawwell. And I doubt very much that was a slip of the tongue.

God knows how much he's been helping behind the scenes to make their journey as easy as possible. The failure to push the title investigation etc. If he could he'd probably loan them the missing millions.

Like everyone else I've vented and continue to vent on how this board have gone about their business over the last few years. However, when Pistol Pete talks about the dent the demise of the huns have made on the revenue for TV rights for the Scottish league and gate receipts, blind fury makes me blank out what the facts might be.
