don't know if it's 10m but income is down (not all because the huns died)

if you take the £100 of the season ticket
the loss of the huns ticket money for 2 home games
the fall in season ticket sales (not all because the huns died)
the fall in match day sponsorship
prize money for winning the league is down also (tv deal)

there's probably more.

as you say the biggest income for us is CL money, then you need to get your players in early for the qualifiers.

PL's spin is composed of straw-man arguments against the fans and lies to cover-up his incompetence.

If I told my supervisor that the reason my customers were unhappy with me was because my job is difficult and people just don't understand...well, I'd be fired.

We might have but that 'might' has been offset by guaranteed participation in the Champions route of the Champions League qualifiers. Our turnover last year was as high as it has ever been. Ian Bankier said this

"I am delighted to report that success on the field and, in particular, our European campaign have contributed to a very successful trading period."This is not only a highly satisfactory result, but represents a five-year record profit.

And now Peter Lawwell is playing the poor mouth due to the loss of the huns - you couldn't make it up.

It does rather fly in the face of those who also suggested Lawell and the the Board were happy to stick the knife into the hun too.

Makes you wonder what we've been up to in the background to make sure their cheating gets the public airing and punishment it deserves. i.e. the grant total of feck all.

I don't think Lawwell really believes what he is saying. He knows last year - without the huns - we still posted a massive turnover and record profits. He knows a strong Rangers might provide competition and an increase in domestic revenue but he also knows there is far more lolly to be had in the Champions League and that without Rangers we have a free run at it. All this 'we miss Rangers' stuff is utter, utter guff. The figures are there in black and white - we didnt lose money when they disappeared (income stayed static), we posted a record profit last year and the interims this year showed a pre-tax profit of £21m. This nonsense is almost beyond belief.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deepBrian Wilson
Ian Bankier

Add in Peter Lawwell, and you have a board of Tory
Red tory, blue tory, there is little difference these days.
Sorry but that's just not true

Having dealt with with Brian ons few occasions with the grave society, and reading his work and knowing his record in politics that's just not a fair representation of him

For example

Quote:

As trade minister, Wilson took a great deal of interest in Cuba which he visited on a number of occasions in an effort to improve political and trade links. He has written extensively in defence of Cuba and about his meetings with Fidel Castro

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Wilson_%28Labour_politician%29

Quote:

How Mr Brian Wilson voted on Foreign Policy and Defence #

Voted very strongly for use of UK military forces in combat operations overseas
Voted very strongly for the Iraq warDetails
Voted moderately against an investigation into the Iraq war
Has never voted on replacing Trident with a new nuclear weapons system

Quote:

How Mr Brian Wilson voted on Health #

Voted very strongly for introducing foundation hospitals

Quote:

How Mr Brian Wilson voted on Education #

Voted moderately against greater autonomy for schoolsDetails
Voted very strongly for university tuition fees

Quote:

How Mr Brian Wilson voted on Home Affairs #

Voted moderately for a stricter asylum systemDetails
Voted moderately for introducing ID cards

I'm sure he might be a nice guy on a personal level, and I know he's contributed to Celtic in the past, but I think with a record like that you are entitled to be called a Tory. I suppose, though, that he was only following orders like most of the people in the Red Tory cabal.

I still believe in the next set of figures will show a record profit.

Even without VVD's transfer fee on it. (He'll put this fee onto the feb numbers to spruce them up )

I'd be surprised if the full year income figure isn't around £65 to £70m. Obviously the interim £21m pre-tax profit is going to be significantly reduced in the second half of the period - nevertheless it should still be healthy. The last two years with Rangers in the top league our total income was £104m. The two years without Rangers are likely to amount to around £135 to £140m in total income. Who is he trying to kid?

I'm not exactly an economics genius but would it not be reasonable to suggest that even if hypothetically this year we turned over the same as 2009 (yes I know that's not possible now) - say £75m - would that not still in real terms represent a fairly significant fall? Given the money you see getting chucked around in the transfer market inflation is presumably pretty serious in football. :ponder: I'm just somewhere between devil's advocate and trying to get my head round this.

The turnover we generated in 2009 was thanks to a last 16 place in the Champions League. The following year income fell to 61m. It then fell a further 10m in 2011 and remained static in 2012 (there was a small drop). Last year we generated income of £75m and this year will see £65 to £70m. The rise and fall in income can be correlated with participation in the Champions League proper. There has obviously been a drop in domestic revenue but over all revenue is up from the last two seasons Rangers were in the top tier - significantly so.

Lawwell must have been reading from a well thumbed version of Minty Moonbeams Smoke & Mirrors if he thinks we are falling for this total guff he is spouting.

I loved his "we back our managers" quote when you think of the nothing we have spent this summer on our all too obvious glaring deficiencies in the first team.

His quoting spends of £113-4 million fails to mention that covers a 15 year period!! it's about £8 million a year and does not begin to take into account what we have recouped in player sales during the same period. We have brought in close to £50 million in sales alone in the last 4 years FFS :cuckoo:

We have then yet to mention 7 champions league group stages worth of cash during this same spell.

His abject failure to strengthen this summer is absolutely disgraceful, he has brought in over £11 million in player sales and has "given" us a load of loanee misfits. On top of that it looks like the only other piece of business we'll be doing in the next 2 days is the protracted completion of our 2 years too late forward.

We have a squad bloated with less than average dross, all sucking an obscene amount of wages out of the club for little or no return & a CEO who happily sucks up another million all to himself - nice numbers over his 11 year tenure!! something else he just happened to leave out of the fairy tale he has been spinning to all and sundry over the past few days.

Its all poor wee Peter, these supporters don't understand, etc, etc.

Surely to god no-one is still buying his particular brand of snake-oil let alone swallowing it??

Just GTF, you're stinking the place out ya fecking reptile.

Here is a great piece from Donal og Cusack who is a Cork hurler and Celtic fan. His words probably sum up how a lot of us feel.
Why I have fallen out of love with Celtic
Quote:

This last few weeks it’s been hard to watch Celtic. The romance and the ambition and the vision have all been stripped away, writes Donal Óg Cusack.

Two weeks before I made my debut for Cork in 1999, I went to Jimmy Barry-Murphy with what I regarded as a very serious problem.

To be fair to Jimmy, he understood the nature of the problem, and he knew how to handle it. He said to go ahead and do what I needed to do. He said it was probably best to just keep quiet about it afterwards. I saw where he was coming from and agreed. That was the way to handle it.

It was a delicate business. If I were managing a team now, and a young fella came to me with the same problem, I know I wouldn’t so understanding. It wasn’t a weekend of mental calm and preparation I was thinking of. Back in 1999, I needed to go to the Scottish Cup final between Celtic and Rangers. No place for faint hearts.

Link
just catching up so may already have been commented on

it is a good read but also a sad read as well - but unfortunately not surprising

All this talk about the worldwide family which at the present time may just about still hold true will be a myth in around 15 to 20 years time

I have been fortunate enough to attend the last 5 North American Federation of Celtic Supporters Clubs conventions in Las Vegas (it is held every 2nd year in Vegas and in the other years it is held in other cities around North America) and while they have been well attended (in Vegas anyway) the numbers each year are starting to dwindle.

The best turnout was on the 40th anniversary of the big cup win back in 2007 when there was a turnout of around 5-6,000 it has declined since then and the last time there was around 1,500 (which is still a great turnout). The turnout is mostly people from America and Canada but also people from Australia, Far East, mainland Europe and Scotland. Ireland, England (where i travel from) and Wales.

The full Lions squad have been terrific supporters of the convention over the years and remain fantastic ambassadors for the club, especially Bertie who i don't think has missed one, also George McCluskey, Pat McCluskey and Dixie Deans are regular attendees.

Unfortunately the club has nothing to do with them attending and the guys are either sponsored by clubs in the NAFCSC or travel on their own cost.

The club itself does absolutely nothing to support the convention and has had no official involvement in any of the conventions i have attended (think they may have sent a Celtic TV crew on one occasion). It is that bad that the merchandise at the convention is supplied by the guy that runs the Timland shop on the Gallowgate (not to take anything away from him he does a grand job).

Hate to bring the dead club into it but they used to hold conventions in North America with a fraction of the numbers who attend the Celtic convention but they had the current manager and CEO/Chairman turn up with any trophies they had won that season - also think the same applies with the new zombie club and the convention they held in north america this summer.

Also i believe the Australian clubs also held a convention in Perth a couple of years back again with no official support from Celtic and i believe Murdo MacLeod and Wiillie Wallace and others attended.

Over the years attending the conventions it is largely the same people who are attending with the majority being in the 40-60 age bracket.

The Lions (those still with us) are now getting to the stage in life where long haul travel is going to be restricted due to ill health.

The North Americans who attend the conventions are telling me their once thriving clubs are now struggling to keep their heads above water due to a variety of reasons but mostly the availability of games online and a lack of new blood coming through.

Sorry for the length of the post but the next time you see any shampoo like #Because Celtic Family

It is complete nonsense, after this generation of ex-pats die off there will be very few left to take their place.

If they are actually in anyway serious about promoting the club to overseas current/future fans i expect to see them well represented in an Official capacity both in merchandising and attendees at the upcoming convention in June 2015 in Las Vegas (although not holding my breath).

P.S. Rod Stewart has done more to represent and promote Celtic in Vegas (due to his stage show/packages during his residency at Ceasers Palace) than the current board have (which whilst being good on Rod is shameful on the boards part).

Yes - and that is the most incredible part! Even if it were true (which I don't believe it is re the figures I posted) our CEO is claiming that in order to keep the lights burning in the absence of Rangers we have to gamble on the sale of assets. Unbelievable.
