So, almost six weeks after Ian Maxwell steps down from the SFA Board, to be replaced by Neil Doncaster, he gets the job as SFA Chief Executive. Six weeks after a former football club chairman described him as a shoo in for it on BBC national radio too. :suspect:

The SFA appear to have spread the net as far as they did when they gave the job to Wiggy.

All above board though according to Mike Mulraney.
Appears to have the backing of Lawwell with a view to marginalising McCrae and Petrie. The latter can't be a bad thing, possibly Pete's puppet?
I'd rather just see the best candidate for the job in the post, to be honest. Someone with their own workable vision to improve the game in Scotland, regardless of so called affiliation.

Having trouble believing that might be the current Managing Director of Partick Thistle, although I recognise a fair bit has improved there over the years.

I suppose you never know. His ability to work with the clubs could be key, but at the same time, although not everything is measured in cash terms I can't imagine him bringing in the big contracts from external partners.

How much of Thistles relative success is down to him rather than a boy who won the lottery?

Yeah, I've made that point before. I think their academy, future training ground and women's set up are financed through the Weir's money. They've sorted their pitch out at long last. And I think they've been in the top flight now for four consecutive seasons, although they could drop down this season obviously.

It could bite them this season, but they've been fairly sensible in keeping Archibald in place and it looks as if the continuity has paid off for them unlike a few other clubs.

It's not spectacular by any means, but they seem to have been run fairly steadily since he started running things in 2011.

Huns will be favourites to finish second next season and I won't be surprised if they do.
That's been said for the past 2 seasons.
It was wrong last season and is right so far this season.

'They'll be lucky to finish fourth' is wheeled out more often.

Having spent much of my youth just around the corner from Firhill, I am hoping that Thistle stay up.

Getting rid of Hamilton will benefit the league imo.

He’s second top scorer, only 21 and it’s his first season in the league. It’s hardly ridiculous is it?

Boyd’s the top scorer in the SPL. Who were you expecting to see on the shortlist?

I suppose in SPL terms it's not but he's still pish. It also speaks volumes for the overall standard of our game that an over the hill fat has been like Boydachenko is in the running for the main award and he deserves to be in it!

All of this. As much as it's the Weirs' money, I do believe that Maxwell and our chairman David Beattie have been the ones guiding the developments.

Even though we're very likely on the way down this season, the way the club's finances have been (as far as I can see) utterly sorted out and a strong future in youth development envisioned, I'm still pretty damn hopeful for the club. It's a effing odd feeling.

Who knows what Maxi's SFA appointment says. Is he just a safe pair of local hands? Does he have some grand vision up his sleeve? More likely the former, which is unambitious on the SFA's part but all the best to him. Also, I reckon that moving in those circles gives you a lot of chances to network, so he's probably made it known that he was interested in the top jobs. I don't see anything more insidious in his appointment than "Man Who Expressed Interest In Job Gets Job".
