Two things

Hibs fans are talking about boycotts as long as Petrie is there. He has to go. A war between the board and its supporters will hurt the club financially.

We will see if Petrie takes a step back. I doubt it. The honourable thing would have been to resign after last night. He didn't which suggests that he still foresees a role for himself at the club. You may well be correct about Dempster but relegation has made her job far far harder. Yep they have a good stadium and a training ground but I could point to a number of English clubs with great facilities, training grounds and academies who are miles away from the Premiership.

Butcher will have to rebuild the team from scratch over the summer with a support who will correctly cut him no slack. The way that he has managed this team really should send alarm bells across the Hibs support. I suspect that the opposition have figured out how to play him and yesterday he had no plan B. You say they should be back in a couple of seasons and thats just it. I suspect that they will face at least two seasons in the Championship and we will see Hearts and Sevco back in SPL before them. Given their structure that is shocking and as I said earlier Petrie and Butcher should lose their jobs for the position Hibs find themselves in today.
Both are fair points, which are why I expect Petrie to retreat into the shadows and stay there. Dempster has openly talked about the need to re-engage the support, and she's canny enough to know that Petrie is persona non grata with the Hibs support. I fully expect her to become the public face of the club.

On Butcher - I suspect his saving grace may well be his willingness to confront underperformance. There will be plenty of things for Dempster to tackle at the start without finding a new manager as well. But I don't suppose it matters either way. They'll need an awful lot of things to go their way this summer to have a realistic shot of winning the league.

That said, if I was a Hibs fan, I'd want the pair of them gone. They do both deserve to go.

That's basically their entire squad. I expect they'll still be stuck with those huddies Nelson, Collins and the inexplicably awful McGivern.

I'm assuming their contracts allow a wage reduction on relegation ??

Those having a go at Butcher .....

He took over at ICT in mid season 08/09....they got relegated

He took them back up at first time of asking and kept them in the top league throughout

He finished fourth last season and it was arguably his team that made the league cup final this season

All of the above presumably done on a fraction of the budget which Hibs have.....quite clearly he is now getting the chance to empty the squad at Hibs and build his own...perfectly feasible that he can do exactly what he did in Inverness

You read that list and you just think who the feck has been doing scouting for Hibs over the last few years.

The League Two play off is one of the worst matches I've seen.

Even Hibs would annihilate either of them.

I concur. Butcher has a good track record in Scotland and Hibs is his first real blip. Think he was sold a pup with Hibs. Let him clear the decks and start afresh next season. Deserves the chance.

Apart from finishing bottom of the table with a Motherwell team full of pretty decent players who he had playing horrible football?

He did what Mowbray did to us, taking a poor team that needed rebuilt, destroying the morale and confidence of the players who had to keep things ticking over and then blamed them when it all went wrong.

The problem here for Hibs is they have to decide whether to bet on Butcher's experience of having been here before or change him too at this point.

He might need a couple of seasons to get the job done, but I doubt he'll get more than one.

Can they really afford to change managers again at this point ??

They really need to say to somebody "this job is yours.. take whatever time is needed" ??

14 players released by Hibs and Liam Craig has been told to find himself another club.

Butcher will assemble a half decent team over the next 18 months IMO..

No disrespect Jim but the past has nowt to do with what he did at Easter Road.

He inherited a poor team no doubt, but a side that was also mid-table. He went in quickly decided that he didn't fancy the players he inherited and proceeded to let the world know he didn't rate them. He had however rather presumptuously assumed that they were safe from relegation and he wouldn't need those same players to have to rise to an occasion. An epic fail.

He got knocked out the Scottish Cup at home to Raith Rovers, and saw a free fall in the league of gigantic proportions. They had the chance to beat Kilmarnock at home to preserve their SPL status - a team whose fans sing that their own manager, Alan Johnston, is out of his depth - but instead they lost.

He then had a playoff against the mighty Hamilton Accies. Having won the away leg 2-0, most people - myself included - thought that was that. He then however was taken apart at Easter Road by a team who never went long, and basically played them off the park. Butcher's tactics were an embarrassment to anyone who believes that the game should have a modicum of skill. They deservedly lost 2-0 and correctly lost the overall tie.

He is very much to blame for their relegation. For that he should be emptied.

Next season he will have a very limited budget to re-assemble a side in a league where he will face a re-energised Hearts and Sevco who will have better players. He will also face the likes of Raith who put him out the Scottish Cup and Falkirk. IMHO He will have to rely on McCoist's incompetence and a financial implosion at Sevco for them to get the runner's up spot. I think finishing 4th or 5th is far more likely than finishing 1st or 2nd.

There seems to some fans on here desperate to talk up an "exciting" clash between Celtic and Hamilton Academicals. Quite honestly if there is no CL football at Celtic next season then I would expect the club to shut more than one part of the stadium re lack of fans to fill seats. Desperate times.

Who is talking up Hamilton Accies ? And how many fans do Hibs bring to CP ?
