Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Ex Celta and now Levante leftback.

Veteran journeyman now, was a good player when he was younger...albeit a bit of a thug.
Thugs a bit harsh mate he's actually a really nice guy, I used to teach his daughter when I lived in Valencia. Never gave me free tickets to any Levante games no matter how many I mentioned I was thinking of going.

Great result Groguet, Farinos looked excellent from the highlights I saw and good to see Cani getting a goal. Was there a good attendance?

Yes, Farinós played indeed a very decent match and good to see Cani doing well again, hope it's not only for a match though.

Attendance was more or less the same there has been in most matches this season - about 8,000. Perhaps a bit lower than we thought it would be, but nevermind. Those 8,000 who are going to El Madrigal this season are the real fans, and to be honest I'd rather we had a smaller stadium, perhaps with a capacity of about 14,000-15,000 and with those 8,000-9,000 going there every weekend and having a full house in 'important' matches, than the 25,000 people stadium we have and when in first division almost half of people who go don't really care about the team.

Another signing for Vila-real eventually. It's the young Mexican left wide midfielder Javier Aquino, from the Mexican side Cruz Azul. I have never seen him play to be honest, but according to those who have, he's a very good young player (22-year-old), an important prospect.
On the other hand, Walter Pandiani, the experienced Uruguayan striker who played for several Spanish teams for many seasons and who signed for Vila-real last summer, leaves the club after only half a season. He hadn't done a great job so far and it seems the new manager didn't count him in.

Finally, and as expected after all the rumours from last days, the Argentinian striker Fernando Cavenaghi, who arrived in Vila-real last summer, has also left the club after only half a season. He did very well in the beggining, he scored 3-4 goals in first 5 matches or so, but after that he began to play not so well, didn't score any goals, he missed many chances... Finally he was not even usually in line-up. After some matches, he looked to be recovering a bit, especially in home match against Alcorcón, where he was one of the best players on the pitch and scored a goal, but after that match, again nothing. Now, the new manager didn't look too keen on him and apparently he told the player himself he didn't really count him in. Yesterday he cancelled his contract with Vila-real and has signed for Mexican side Pachuca.
Gerard Bordàs, another striker who hadn't played many matches this season and didn't count for Marcelino either, has gone on a loan to Girona.

Still, I think we're fine with strikers just now. Jonathan Pereira, who came back from Betis at the beggining of the winter transfer window has already been doing well so far; our new signing, the French Perbet, is also supposed to give us a good amount of goals; the Nigerian Uche was our best striker in the first stage of the season -he's in the Africa Cup just now though- and the young Gerard Moreno showed last weekened in the 3-0 win against Sabadell that he can do fine aswell.

Is there any chance of Joselu coming back early from his loan at Cordoba?

Cavenaghi reminded me a bit of a player we had at Celtic a few years back, Harald Brattbakk, he could score some really good goals but then miss from a couple of yards out. I remember watching 2 games where he missed chances that looked easier to score than miss.

Who are you playing this weekend? Any Andalucian teams?

I can't see Joselu coming back here earlier nor at the end of his loan to be honest. If I'm not wrong he's not doing such a great job at Córdoba.

We play Guadalajara away tomorrow. The first weekend of March we'll be playing in Córdoba.

Poor 0-0 draw away against Guadalajara.
I won't comment much on the match since I couldn't watch it -it wasn't on any TV- but according to what I could listen on radio and after seeing the highlights it seems both teams had a few good chances and it was a close match with a goalless score in the end.
I'm rather dissapointed at this result. Not because it was specifically Guadalajara but I think we should win these kind of matches against average-low teams. If we win at home but when playing away, the most we aspire to are draws, I think that won't do. Against Sabadell at home last weekend we got a very good score and the team showed a very good performance, but today it seems it was, again, nothing special. And I don't think a team that have only won two away matches so far this season, and have only won more than one match in a row once in the season can be considered as a clear candidate for promotion. We still have lots to improve and every time there are less matches left.

Its disappointing after such a good result last week. I think that's now 28 ( ? ) Goals in 24 games which is really poor for a team like Vila-real. 14 very big games to come but I still expect you to be promoted.

As you say, disappointing is the word to describe it. This team can definitely play good football and win matches as they showed last weekend at home against Sabadell, but in many other matches it seems they lack something and I don't really know what is it.
If you look at the stastics, you see it. As I said in my previous post, I don't think that a team that have only scored 28 goals in 24 matches, have only won 9 matches out of 24, only 2 of them away... can be regarded as a team that will get promoted.
Ok, there are 18 matches left which is still a lot, but there can't be any more excuses if we really want to promote. If next weekend we beat Ponferradina at home it'll be fine, but if the weekend after that, we only get a point or even lose in Alacant against Hércules, it will be the same old thing again.

Very important and rather 'easy' win at home yesterday. 3-0 against Ponferradina, who were only one point behind Vila-real before the match, but to be honest, they didn't put us into much trouble. Despite not playing impressive football nor anything like that, Vila-real controlled the match all 90 minutes long and took advantage of the most clear chances they had to score the three goals, the first one by Jonathan Pereira with a header, 2-0 by our new striker, Jeremy Perbet, also with a header, and finally 3-0 by Perbet with a fine strike from outside the box. Perfect debut for the Frenchman.
It seems we're growing stronger at home in last matches, but now where we also must improve is away. Last time we won an away match was in November...so it's about time we do it again.

I'm just catching up with the highlights from the weekend Groguet, they looked really good again. In a lot of games I watched at the start of the season, even ones Vial-real won, they didn't look good in front of goal, that looks to have changes big time. The players look like they're enjoying themselves.

6 points behind second place with a lot of games to go, its still possible and after watching Elche-Cordoba at the weekend I don't think either would be a problem for VilaIreal at the minute.

Well, we'll see. It seems things are going fine at home now but the team still have to show that they can do the same when playing away. With Marcelino as manager, we have had one loss (5-0) and one draw (0-0) in the away matches we have played. On Sunday, away against Hércules, who despite being in relegation places look to be improving a lot during the last weeks, with scores such as a 3-0 win at home against Alcorcón and an 1-1 away draw in Girona (and both of these teams are in promotion play-off places), it will be a good chance to show what can the team do away from home.
