Heading to London at the weekend with 5 mates and looking for a suitable Celtic friendly pub to watch the Dons game. Anyone ever been to Connolly's Bar in Chiswick? Any other recommendations gratefully received.
Depends where you are. Sheephaven near Mornington Crescent is a cracking boozer and Celtic friendly.
Philomenas Covent garden is most central

Thanks lads, much obliged. We are staying near Marble Arch so either of those two suggestions are close to us. Problem is that both a ca. 1 hour on the tube from Heathrow and we'll miss the first 30 mins of the match if we go straight into the city centre - hence the thought to stop half way in Chiswick.

I'm not sure about PHilomena's location though - right across the road from the freemasons hall and the united grand lodge of England!! :lolhuns:

The Irish Embassy show them if anyone is looking in the future.

Hi all - not sure if this is the correct place to post my request. I am flying into Glasgow on Saturday morning for Inverness game (first game). I am looking for any info on where to stay and go for a jar on Saturday night. I will also be around on the Sunday - flying out on Monday morning so any pointers would be much appreciated. I can obviously look up hotels on Booking.Com etc but interested in any input from locals about what's worth seeing and entertainment. Many thanks. Mick.

If you're looking for a Celtic friendly pub in the city centre then Malone's on Sauchiehall Lane is probably your best bet and will be busy on a Saturday night, especially after a Celtic game.

Saint Vincent's on St Vincent Street will have rebel music, cheaper prices and the likes but is also a bit earthier and neddier for want of a better word.

With regards to hotels I'm no much use never having stayed in one but I'd hazard a guess that the Citizen M might be what you're looking for as it I think it's relatively cheap, clean, tidy and in a decent location.

Thanks a million. Not too worried about cost. More concerned that I (56 year old) end up in a club with a bunch of teenagers or down an alleyway with a bunch of Rangers fans. Citizen M fully booked but going to book Hotel Z which is very well reviewed and competitively priced. Also seems to be well located.

In terms of huns as long as you avoid Bridgeton you'll be fine, walk down the Gallowgate rather than London Road if you're walking to and from the game. You might be better getting a train from Central Station to Dalmarnock or from Queen Street to Bellgrove which will only cost you a couple of pounds.

Might be worth posting in this thread if you're looking for a non-Celtic pub:

Happy enough to drink in Celtic boozers. Budget will allow for taxis door to door if needs be.

Babbity Bowster bar in Merchant City is a decent, celtic friendly pub.
It also has a (very) few rooms above it, at a decent price.
The food is also decent, especially the Cullen Skink.
Check out it's web-site :)

p.s. i'm not the owner

Where did you end up? I was in the Sheephaven, and saw a few lads walk in with suitcases half way through the game, wondered if it was a KDS contingent?

Thanks to everybody for their suggestions regarding Glasgow pubs and methods of transport to and from Celtic Park. Took the bus out and after a bit of toing and froing got my ticket which was for Club Celtic. Excellent seat and very enjoyable game. After the game decided to walk back into town via the Gallowgate as traffic was manic and taxis were scarce. Stopped off in some of the hostelries and to say they were lively would be an understatement. Tried all the pubs suggested but ended up in O'Neills in Merchant Square. Met a few people in there and after that headed to Sauchiehall St (The Box). Got to bed about 4.00ish. Sunday was a lot tamer ended up in Malones in the evening - again lively but good entertainment.

Next time my missus will be with me - thank god I'm not up to these sorts of weekends anymore.

Anyone know of a pub in Chester for the Barca game? Aware that city will be playing that night so it could be slim pickings...
