Kinda slightly highjacking this but i got my hands on some data for the SPL as part of my job.

Pulled together a few generic averages for the data set looking at 2000-2012. Stuff like average wins, draws, losses, goal diff etc.

Its available at the following link if anyone wants a play with it although the table cuts off a few clubs like St Mirren and Gretna but you can see their data via the view as text button or the visualize button.

http://www-958.ibm.com/software/analytics/manyeyes/datasets/scottish-premier-league-stats-2000/versions/1
Not hijacking at all - very interesting addition to the thread

The average attendances over the period correlate with the first five in performance - two already under insolvency in spite of this major indicator in their favour

No access to the full chart that crossraguel compiled, but after 5 league games we have only dropped two points compared to the seven dropped after as many games last season.

We've conceded two fewer goals and scored as many.

difficult but surely not impossible in our league.it just requires concentration.there will not eb one single game domestically that we will go into thinking we will lose this so if we take each game at a time there is no reason why we cant.

Celtic last did it in 1897-98, in an 18 game league. Rangers then did it the next season, winning all 18 games.

How many seasons previously have we gone unbeaten if you exclude Rangers games?

In forty years, I can think of one.

Take each game at a time? Or get the first 6 under our belts then skip ahead by 32 or so?

I wonder how many folk who can't be bothered going tomorrow night will come on here and blast the players for their lack of desire if we lose to Morton?

Considering played 2 extra games qualifying, been to Tynecastle, Tannadice and Pittodrie and played the team in second place, that is pretty decent.

This team isn't good enough.

In one of MON's seasons didn't we only lose one?

That was 2001/02. We had an unbelievable record of:

P38 W33 D4 L1 F94 A18 Pts 103/114 GD +76

With our only defeat coming at Pittodrie.

Firstly, apologies for my abstinence from KDS during lent, or rather the resultant loss of momentum with updating this page. Unfortunately my PC died prior to Easter, with the loss of the tables I'd been working on. And so, the final picture...

Not unexpected that we finished bottom of the table - that trajectory having been set in the early months of the season. Still, a respectable number of goals scored, having improved in the second half of the season.

I considered whether the margin over 2nd may reflect our relative performance at the outset, and I suppose the next table demonstrates it requires a bit of context.

i see what people are saying that even excluding rangers games from previous seasons we still havent done it but i think that with rangers being in the league and a close run title race it adds extra pressure on the other games against other teams knowing they have to be must win and these other teams often try harder to influence the title race. also once you have that 1st defeat in the season the whole buzz of staying unbeaten ends..so the longer we keep going unbeaten against these other teams there is no doubt the more the players and manager will have it in mind and be motivated to keep it going.

Reading through last year's chart shows that we are a good bit better off than some previous years. I think we are conceding too many goals but overall the league start has been good. Credit to ICT too.

would be interesting to see the updated chart comparing this seasons to previous years.i think if we win our next 2 games it will be our best start for quite a while. i remember lennons 1st season we won the 1st 8 i think before losing the 9th game at home to rangers

Back to where we belong at the top of the SPL, but still propping up the table compared with earlier seasons. Hopefully this is where some perspective can now come for the remainder of the season.

After Match 7
PWDLFAGDPts
Celtic 2000/0177002071321
Celtic 2010/1177001631321
Celtic 2003/0476101831519

Celtic 2007/08 75112461816
Celtic 2005/067511178916
Celtic 2009/10 7511157816
Celtic 2008/09 75111710716
Celtic 2006/07 7511125716
Celtic 2011/12 75021661015
Celtic 2012/13 7421137614

Closed the gap to 1 point behind last season, still on the worst goal difference. Those missed chances today could have changed that somewhat.
So taking Crossraguel table from last year. This year, 2013/14 this is our record after 7 games.

P W D L F A GD Pts
7 6 1 0 17 7 10 19

This would put us in 6th position on GD, between 2004/05 and 2002/03
